  1. That fix takes me back to my Dad having a radiator muff in cold weather on his old sidevalve Ford van. I honestly thought we had moved on from that period of motoring. I can see how it makes a significant difference but it really shouldn't be necessary now days. All it really achieves is to mask the underlying issues. As Mark mentioned make sure you don't overheat it if you become stuck in traffic. Please don't think that I'm being critical of your modification, I do understand what you are setting out to achieve. Kind regards Colin
  2. Hi guys, if any of you require any help or just advice about the issues that your 620's are experiencing do feel free to give us a call on our workshop number, 01403713626. Alternatively do join us at our soon to be announced 2022 Open Day if you are within distance. We will do our best to chat if you call or if we aren't available we will give you a call back. Kind regards The PGM Team
  3. Depending on your budget I would have thought the best way forward is to contact Northampton Motor Sport. (Not as far for you to travel). They can supply ecu's and of course map them correctly on their rolling road. I believe they can also deal with Emeralds if necessary. Kind regards PGM
  4. Duratec engines are normally keyless. It all relies on the crankshaft bolt which you should replace. If it isn't correctly tightened it can let the pulley slip which will damage the valves and possibly pistons etc. If it is a minor leak and you prefer not to strip it down try a thorough clean and a sealant or possibly a chemical metal depending where the leak is. It may work and if so it will save you a fair amount of work including retiming the engine. Regards Colin
  5. Hi Phillip Did they modify the thermostat housing on your car? Kind regards Colin (PGM)
  6. Hi David We can supply and fit any of the Caterham cages to order. Have recently fitted the new track day style cage to a 620 for example. Have also had them re powder coated to specific colours etc. Kind regards PGM

    Rust tidy up

Hi Garth we may be able to help, drop us a call next week if you would like to. Kind regards Colin
  8. Regarding pedal positions and being able to heel and toe we have found it to be a very personal set up. Over the years we have often adjusted the pedals to suit individual users. The best way we have found is to have the driver in the car with the pedal box cover off so we can see exactly what is required. I think you will find that most of the specialists and of course competent owners should be able to offer to carry out these adjustments so where ever you are situated there should be help at hand. Kind regards PGM
  9. Hi Phillip If you can manage to see the thermostat housing it is possible to tell whether it has an early type housing which didn't have a thermostat. If you call the workshop they will be able to explain. We have had several in with the early type of housing (without a thermostat) usually on the early models. You do need the later housing though to modify to correct the over cooling issues, so even if you eventually have to do that at least you are starting with the correct housing. Kind regards PGM
  10. Hi Phillip You are most welcome to pop in for a chat. We can explain about the issues you mentioned although I do think you are wise to give Caterham the opportunity to sort out your warranty issues especially as you have only just collected your car. Do give us a quick call before making the journey as Andy (my son) who will explain all, may be in and out of the workshop next week. Kind regards Colin (PGM)
  11. Hi Philip Welcome to the world of 620 ownership. I quite understand that it is under warranty but if you would like to chat through any issues for advice please feel free to contact us at the workshop on 01403 713626 as we have dealt with a fair number of 620's recently especially with running and over cooling problems. Kind regards PGM
  12. As you say the set up was many years ago it would probably be worth at least having the geometry checked again as it can be a combination of settings which can cause uneven wear.
  13. Having read through all the posts it stirred a memory of a similar problem from many years ago. The fault wasn't quite as pronounced as this one but it did produce a strange squeaking sound at idle. Initially thought it was a cam tensioner but after much investigation it turned out to be the inlet gasket. I had personally never heard an inlet gasket create a noise like it. Can't remember if the manifold support was missing though. Well done on sorting the issue though!
  14. Make sure that the clutch release arm is in A1 condition. They have a habit of fracturing. If you need an uprated one we have them in stock. If you have a look at this link:- https://www.pgmsussex.com/product-page/clutch-arm-k-series-uprated there are photos showing the difference between the original and our uprated unit. Kind regards PGM
  15. Although unusual we have come across a Sigma engined Supersport that had a jammed thermostat (in the closed position). Have only seen it once and it managed a couple of laps of Silverstone before it overheated. Worth running up to temperature and confirming that the coolant is flowing correctly. Agree the pressure caps can fail though. Also head gasket issues are extremely rare. Kind regards PGM

    Fuel tank repair

Hi Julian Andy has ali welded several tanks in the past but if it is starting to perforate in several spots you would probably be wiser to replace it with a new tank. Otherwise you end up chasing the leaks and the time and labour costs don't justify the repair. Best wishes PGM
  17. Just a thought. Have you adjustable platforms on your present dampers? If not they can be retro fitted to Bilsteins. Then have the car adjusted to the correct height on the 13's which should save the need to change wheels and tyres? Kind regards Colin (PGM)
  18. Under the current Covid circumstances are spectators allowed at the upcoming Speed Championship meeting at Goodwood on the 17/4/21?
  19. Have just re-stocked with a new batch of arms ready for 2021! Kind regards the PGM team
  20. Thank you for the positive feedback. A lot of time and thought went into strengthening them as we had seen quite a few failures withe the original ones. Kind regards Andy and Colin @ pgm
  21. We have seen quite a few cars with minimal grease in the front wheel bearings, even on fairly new cars. Consequently if you don't know the service history it is always a good idea to strip and check the front wheel bearings for wear and possible over heating.
  22. I believe the vibratech mountings are originally specified for an imperial chassis although we have also used them on Metric chassis's without any problems. We used the original mounting holes in the chassis. The manifold on our car came with it when purchased second hand but everything appeared to fit and clear ok. We are using Dellortos not Webers though. Kind regards Colin
  23. Hi, I thought you may like to see these pictures from our own car. It was originally a crossflow but already had the redtop 16v fitted when purchased. The last picture is of a vibratech type engine mounting currently used. Kind regards Colin
  24. It is worth checking that the weights are all grouped together, We have seen some wheels where they look as if they have been thrown all over the place. Would agree that it sounds like a balancing issue though.
