  1. Thanks all. I'll call Dave at interpro as a start rather than put anyone out. Thanks for the offers of help. Will get to Dave if this rain ever stops
  2. Sorry for being Tardy but been away getting stabbed in preparation for an op. To answer some points 1) Getting parallels won't work as no usb accessibility to ECU because 2) Although I have the adapter cable it's usb (as supplied by emerald) and my MacBook does not have USB access 3) I'm reticent to buy a 'cheap laptop' for the once in 20 years its needed I have enough plastic useless crud in my life 4) Dave at Interpro may be worth a shout as he's only an hour away. However many are of the opinion that only Dave at Emerald actually properly knows his ECU. 5) I'm near Frome so anyone able to help I'd be grateful 6) I actually don't know anyone with a windows laptop because a) I have very few friends and b) my friends are either very non tech or very tech (so this is all a bit old to them) It's like a perfect storm of frustration, all because Emerald is not Mac compatible and I'm unlucky in the friends department/too stupid myself I can't see why the map would have changed so the plug in is to establish whether it's a fuel pressure issue, a duff sensor etc. I'll call Dave at interpro and see what he says. Tiddy thank you for the offer. Where are you? A run out would be useful/therapeutic once it stops blooming raining
  3. I am becoming increasingly frustrated with accessibility to my ECU and require some advice Tha car runs OK but is I believe overfueling a bit which it never used to do. In addition the rev counter is showing about 50% of actual. I could take the car to Dave at Emerald on a trailer but I have to organise borrowing a trailer and it's a 5 hour drive. So I then find out that if I have wi fi access Dave can log in to the Emerald via my laptop and do a check followed by any adjustments if needed. Brilliant ....except I have a Mac and Emerald is only Windows compatible via a very old plug in system. I have a USB adapter cable BUT my Mac doesn't have a USB port and isn't windows compatible. So I'm stumped. This must be a problem for others and not just me? Any suggestions before I have to book a weeks holiday in Norfolk. I mean I'm actually considering changing ECU's to one that more specialists can actually program because it seems no one can do it quite like Dave and frankly it's become a pain in the proverbial. Help
  4. If it was in the main street and dry it was me as I live here.probably needed driveway clear to get mini out for a thrash
  5. I spoke with Ruth last night from James Whiting regarding some bits and my understanding from her is that James has effectively retired but will happily still help if he can. They are Ashford based. I wouldn't give up on the car just because of some muppet garage. If it's electrical gremlins get the car home and get an auto electrician to come to yours. I've done this in the past. You can then drive the car to a recommended garage to get it MOT'd. While waiting for the electrician you can give it a nice clean and sort out. Unless you want the dull experience of pretty much any modern car i really do promise you that the frustrations will quickly disappear once you are behind the wheel of a functioning Seven
  6. My car is a (or was originally) a 1997 1.8 K series supersport Wide track suspension standard brakes. Can anyone point me to the correct pads (link or part number) My pads are squeaking and they haven't been changed for a while which would indicate hardened pads so it's a job worth doing. Set i ordered online were wrong because i'm a muppet. Any pointers appreciated Edited to say I ordered Mintex 1144 pads Caterham 7 and they didn't fit hence my question. What am I missing (apart from a brain obvs)
  7. In the old days of my K series plus 6 speed I had 70 on my speedo and 4000rpm showing with 15 inch wheels and 45 profiles I went to Duratec and 6 speed and 13in wheels with 60 profile (I think) then finally gave up and went 5 speed for sanity and hearing. The 6 speed is great for track etc but for long distance touring the 5 with long 1st and 5th just suited my requirement better. The ford box is not without it's issues though but my understanding was that parts for the 6 speed were getting problematic to source. I like the laziness of the Duratec with the 5 speed. There's only one place I like a screamer
  8. Personally if it's done 35k and the engine and box are out anyway I'd replace the clutch. Unless you do 1000 miles a year and might sell it in the next 5 IYSWIM. I've always replaced a clutch if its done decent miles and the engine and box are out anyway as they are relatively speaking inexpensive, it gives peace of mind and saves future hassle
  9. wild bill

    Front pads

I need to replace pads on my standard set up 97 car widetrack are Mintex 1144 still the reccommended?
  10. coolcat, it is. It is a Brooklands type stanchion and has been drilled to take perspex aeroscreens not Brooklands screens. Need to be very clear on that as I am not sure if it will take brooklands screens
  11. I always used to tour with throttle cable plus a coil and an alternator, both of which i needed. Changing the alternator required bribing a local garagiste with a bottle of red to use his ramp. Luckily I speak french so the requirement was clear. The alternators on Duratecs seem prone to failure in my personal experience and I have always thought it was down to positioning and it's susceptability to water ingress during heavy weather. This is pure conjecture on my part. I've had 2 alternator failures both after travelling in heavy rain. anyway Waadoo i know
  12. Mine actually started yesterday. I just need another seat, a rolling road and the bonnet putting on. It IS minute compared to even modern small cars.
  13. Write up in Motorsport this month on Sterling's car, being driven around Goodwood. Car is used any day unless there's salt on the roads. It is a bit like Triggers Broom although the carbs are the original ones as i think are bits like steering wheel, seat frames etc. Body work is not and neither is the engine but hey I wouldn't say no. My favourire car of all time. You can have a DK enfineering SWB for a mere £800000 which is a bargain against an original.
