  1. well done Matt, I bet you`re really pleased with that result, lets hope Asbo can deliver next time out! Wished I could have been there on Saturday (spend most of the day wishing i was there). Looking forward to seeing how my "Retro" compares to Asbo at Curbs!

  4. Andy, Curbs 2, last year, was my first sprint, this will be my second! The more experienced guys were very helpul on the day, so best advice is to buddy up to the guy next to you in the paddock, they are all really friendly. Curbs 2 last year was the following: Sign on opens - 8am (cars 1 to 30), 845am (31 to 60), 930: (61+) Scrutineering - same timing for same numbers. As class 1 we`ll be the first batch of cars, usually run in class order, so you should aim to be ready for 8am really. There will be a drivers briefing, this was 830am (a must for new drivers). You also get a chance to walk the track, but this ends at 845am. Morning pactice runs started at 9am. So i got there before 8am, set the car up, numbers on, timing strut on. Walked the course with some others who`d been before, then did scruitineering all before the 830 briefing, so after the briefing was final checks before first run. 5. Curbs 1 entry going in post after I pop out of the office to buy a stamp! Dont think I`ll make the Marshalls. Hoping for some good May weather! Andy 1999 VX1600 Classic - andysteele.net - picasa albums - driving in marigolds
  6. cheers all, tyres arrived from Polley today, great service, will try some of the local independants! another little arrival is expected over the weekend which might delay the fitting! hope to be atleast spectating at Goodwood! 1999 VX1600 Classic - andysteele.net - picasa albums - driving in marigolds

    tyre fitting

whats a reasonable price to get a tryre fitted, valued and balanced? My local place are quoting £12+vat each, they cant source the A539's so going to Polley for the actual tyre. 1999 VX1600 Classic - andysteele.net - picasa albums - driving in marigolds
  8. thanks for the comments Graeme and Mark. I`m asuming my CR322's are 9+ years old, and the original academy tyres (2000 - Mark Harrison), egdes are very worn. Sounds like A539's with no shaving will do! 1999 VX1600 Classic - andysteele.net - picasa albums - driving in marigolds
  9. i`m finally getting round to swapping out my old CR322's for what appears to be the tyre of choice for Class 1 on 13" wheels.... an old friend who used to complete in the Slick 50 championship in a Mk1 Golf told me all about the benefits of buffing the tyres down a few years back (he used Demon Tweeks). Is it worth it? since the A539 is still a hard tyre and the car's so light (520kg !) I dont see me taking too much out of them with a few sprints and some road use If its worth doing, how much should i have shaved off, and can Polley deliver shaved tyres? 10. hope you guys had a good time, looks like you had good weather for it... was wishing i was up there too while stuck in meetings at work :( 1999 VX1600 Classic - andysteele.net - picasa albums - driving in marigolds
  11. i got my petty strut through yesterday, live axle. I asked CC for the relevant nuts and bolts and have a bag full of all sorts! what i didnt ask for was washers. what do i need, and where do they go in the sequence of bolt, bar, nut, and bolt, bar, car? anyone got pictures of a petty strut attaching to the chassis, the hole is visible, looks like it has been used for petty strut before (academy car), just not convinced how its supposed to attach! 15. i know MOST classic grad/VX academy cars are pre-2000 registered, such as mine (Oct 1999), but the 2000 academy was with VX engined cars so some are spring 2000 registered. I know the end of line Beaulieu 1600 VX's were still being registered in 2001. I expect MSA will accept that these engines are from 1994, its was just bolted into the car at a later date. 1999 VX1600 Classic - andysteele.net - picasa albums - driving in marigolds

    VX oil filter

when i changed mine last year CC Parts said GFE700 is the current one, GFE210 is the old one, no longer held in stock or sold (not sure why its still on the site!). GFE700 is a lot shorter than the old one that was in before (fitted by previous owner). Not sure what the filter is really from though, i was going to get my fresh one from CC this spring. 21. ok you got it right, bad earth on the cycle wheel stay. nut/bolt is rusted solid, no chance of removing using standard methods! i did manage to get through my 9am MOT though, and the nice man (Robin) at Finchampstead MOT spotted it and did me a temporary fix after realising they wont be able to get the bolt off easily. earth for the indicator now goes direct to the battery..... for Finchampstead MOT as I`m back on the road atleast (MOT expired on Tuesday) Next job, get the cycle wing stay bolt off and sort it out properly... ideas? Drill it out?? Cheers, Andy 1999 VX1600 Classic - andysteele.net - picasa albums - driving in marigolds
  22. digital multimeter in place - set to DC, 20v I`m getting 8ish when indicators on, drops to 2 or 1, but think this is just the refresh rate of the LCD display? so why isnt the bulb, or any bulb (even the one from the other side that works on the other side) not coming on?????? 1999 VX1600 Classic - andysteele.net - picasa albums - driving in marigolds
  23. you`re always one step ahead! 1999 VX1600 Classic - andysteele.net - picasa albums - driving in marigolds
