  3. just got back from our hols in France (via Spain and Santander ferry), in the boring car... saw a Caterham, White with Black arches getting on the Ferry, was about to come up and say Hi when they finally starter loading us.... this was as well as a Morgan and Aston V8 in the same lane as our Octavia. shame the weather wasnt as good on the UK side for the drive home! 1999 VX1600 Classic - andysteele.net - picasa albums - driving in marigolds

  7. hey Matt, i got the same camera. I managed to get my first timed run recorded, but forgot to switch it off afterwards, so battery went too. Trick is to work out how to switch it on and start recording while strapped in, I just about worked it out using the rear view mirror as a guide! Then remember to turn it off! I`m trying to upload my video now.... 1999 VX1600 Classic - andysteele.net - picasa albums - driving in marigolds
  8. the wife was in control of the camera and our 1 year old, so not many photo's and mostly of me! here anyone else get some good ones? Cheers, Andy 1999 VX1600 Classic - andysteele.net - picasa albums - driving in marigolds

  11. Should I have received anything yet? Just checked I have not had any confirmation other than the fact the cheque was paid in on 16th March. Cheers, Andy! 1999 VX1600 Classic - andysteele.net - picasa albums - driving in marigolds
  12. just spotted the new colour(s) on PH, nice. will be even better with the new rims!
  13. the pile of shiny bits looks good atleast! Looking forward to seeing the new colour scheme.... and for the new name following the Abso Orange car! i managed to rip a rear wheel arch half off on the way to work this morning, so my Goodwood prep list has gone from: 1. Clean car, 2. fit petty strut, to 1. Clean car, 2. fit petty strut, 3. fix wheel arch... colour scheme remains as Acadmey battle scared Ali and Green. See you at Goodwood!
  14. jacked her up this evening, there is about 2mm of play, latterally. Bearing kit on order. is it safe to use (gentle road use) or should I deem it off the road until fixed? Cheers, Andy 1999 VX1600 Classic - andysteele.net - picasa albums - driving in marigolds
  15. thanks all, I think I`m getting the whole shimming thing! Kevin - if you can did out that document it would be good. If the current bearing is tacked on to the half shaft, will it need a new half shaft as well, or is it ok to re-use with new bearing and shims? Cheers, Andy 1999 VX1600 Classic - andysteele.net - picasa albums - driving in marigolds
  16. got the car back following MOT and check over, mechanic says we need to replace rear wheel bearing on one side. I had hoped this would be a relatively simple task, but just been reading the Haynes Manual for Ital's and found old post on BC here. Haynes says "take axle shaft to your dealer and have him remove bearing and fit new one", this is after we have pulled the hub off with BL special tool. Sounds like quite a job! Numpty question, I`ve heard people go on about shims before, what are they? Haynes manual doesnt use that term, is it the axleshaft key. I see the bearing kit is available from CC for £28, anything else i need to be aware of, or just get the kit and let the garage sort it out? 17. I`ve had my car 2 years now and I`m thinking about replacing the foam sump baffle with the next oil change. Do I really need to do this? Car is ex-Academy 1600 Vauxhall, from 1999, only 8k miles, so limited use since the Academy. What bits do i need, new foam, new gaskets, anything else? Cheers, Andy! 1999 VX1600 Classic - andysteele.net - picasa albums - driving in marigolds
  18. congratulations guys. we`re loving having our little 8 month around. after my year off of 2009, I`m negotiating some weekends for sprints for next year, fingers crossed I`ll drag the little one along too! Andy 1999 VX1600 Classic - andysteele.net - picasa albums - driving in marigolds
  19. I was wondering which car you had taken, the live timing said Classic, but then the times appeared to tumble! 1999 VX1600 Classic - andysteele.net - picasa albums - driving in marigolds
  20. have email ref the harness, looks like its sold 1999 VX1600 Classic - andysteele.net - picasa albums - driving in marigolds
  21. I`ve got a spare Willans harness, from passenger side, replaced with a "Caterham" Luke harness to match the drivers side, little use. Its the small straps type, uses the 4 main mounting points but is essentially 2 straps, in black with Willans branding. - SOLD also got a spare crotch strap (ooo er) for Luke 4 point quick release harness (to make it 6 point), looks good condition but used, came with the harness I have fitted to replace the above. SOLD I also bought a head rest and stay from ebay, the stay advertised as 77849S, in old style Caterham Parts bag with part number sticker, believed to be unused. I found this the wrong length for my car (1999 LA with FIA bar) too long, and purchase the same item from CC which is fine. £5 +P&P pictures here - linky also have following new parts available (didnt need them in the end) if anyone wants them: #74513 -Throttle Cable Pedal Box Bush (Crossflow and Vauxhall 8v) - here #74119 - Throttle Pedal Bush (S3,SV,CSR) - here both brand new in Caterham Parts seal bag (both in one bag, but can split!) 1999 VX1600 Classic - andysteele.net - picasa albums - driving in marigolds Edited by - andysteele on 30 Jul 2009 22:01:23

  24. I`m up for Combe, but would like some more power to do it justice! I appear to have a day pass arranged even though the misses is planning a naming party for our 6 week old that weekend! 1999 VX1600 Classic - andysteele.net - picasa albums - driving in marigolds
