  1. If you can't be ars*d removing the inertia reels, just cut the belt and it will magically disappear, then sometime in the future when you're feeling mechanically brave you can remove the rear wheels, drill out the rivets and add lightness

  4. I think the white pigmented plastic is likely to have yellowed and discoloured due to the influence of sunlight...and it's probably permanent
  5. Fitted one of these this weekend. Comes with everything you need (see Technical info) in terms of fittings and tubing, and gives an accurate and reliable reading. Service from Merlin is excellent. http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p/stack-mechanical-oil-pressure-gauge-0-7-bar-st3101 You need a 1/8" npt female from the block, or better put in a remote adaptor so you can have a low pressure warning light as well.
  6. Tom, Take 'em to City Powder Coating in Brum and they'll do them exactly as you want for £20 ea. Best idea is to take them bare and with the two rim parts just connected by 2 or 4 bolts, they will powdercoat the rims and centres to any colour you want.
  7. Yeah they would have been the 15" Prisoners at that time, rather than the 16" 5 spokes which became standard on VX HPC's in 1990
  8. If it's mounted on the Caterham 'standard' slider-yes, if it's on the fixed ali mounting (usually only for the passenger) then no! Also make sure the belt buckles don't snag the holes at the sides of the tillet
  9. If you have a tuned engine (higher CR, ported, wilder cams etc) then it will have been set up on a rolling road or dyno with a certain amount of ignition advance, using a fuel that will maximise power without detonation - it is unlikely to be 95.

  12. 99% it's a bad earth on the wingstay. Clean the area to bare metal with a small wire brush in the drill, replace the connector and attach with a new screw. Dab of Hammerite over the lot, jobs a good 'un
  13. Stuart, Yes they do and you position them using cable ties on the DD. Just watch where they loop over to the calipers and make sure they can't snag anywhere. Paul
  14. One caliper slides a little, the other doesn't - the original Ford rears will have had flexi lines.

  16. That's often normal with solid brake pipes - they don't allow the floating part of the caliper to float Replace with flexi hoses.
  17. When I built mine in '96, I went down to Dartford and had a tour into the back . I asked one of the fitters about a particular part of the assembly that I'd found tricky and referred to the page in the build manual. His reply 'No idea mate, we all build 'em differently, and none of us use the manual'

  19. I think you'll need to remove it to check how it's been fitted to the rails and if it needs any spacers to even it up.
  20. Tom, Don't use distilled or deionised water, there is no benefit in that whatsoever and in the absence of other additives will give you a corrosive environment. Additionally you don't need anti-scaling agents even if the water you use is relatively hard; the amount of scale that will deposit will be negligible as this is not a cycling environment with steam being generated and the water being continuously replaced (as in a boiler or kettle). Ratherthan that just use tap water and antifreeze/coolant in the normal proportions.
