  1. Resurrecting this thread - I need to get new headlights and want to get these, as they sound the best in terms of light pattern etc... Are they 7" only? and looking on the web they only seem to come with a black body and chrome front ring...is it possible to get them in a black body? Or do you buy them as a reflector unit only and mount them in your own bowls?
  2. I tried superglue and metal putty, they both failed over time...There may be stronger/better glues available!
  3. Just looking at your blog - for the seats - get the bolts welded into the runners!!!! On your old car - I took the seats off once, doing it the old way with screwdrivers wedged into the runners to hold the top of the nut whilst undoing underneath....took an entire day!! next time I got the bolts welded in for £20 - seat just drops into the 4 holes, and you just do up the nuts underneath...a 5 minute job! Best £20 I ever spent.
  4. I did see a graduates racer recommend going one step further and part-cutting through the nylon bolts so they really do shear when hit...i think they said even the nylon bolts can be too tough sometimes... I don't race etc etc so don't know how advisable this is!
  5. Quoting roger heeley: Decided on a new one for 100% confidence when hooning about in the car as I'd always have at the back of my mind that something's not quite right also I'd never forgive myself if anything gave way if I was at full chat and someone got hurt. Edited by - roger heeley on 11 Oct 2011 12:45:59 That's what i did too - mine wasn't even cracked, but there seemed enough evidence to convince me - plus bumpy scottish roads and hump-backed bridges!
  6. I just can't get my head around tyre prices...I find £65 seems a fortune (but I pay it) my mind boggles at the idea of paying £500-£600 in total for a set 😬
  7. Quoting 6speedmanual: Oddly, I have not noticed anything from Kwikfit or National Tyres? I would have thought they would see money to be made. Maybe franchised dealers are ahead of the game because the people who take their cars in there are generally able to afford more running expense. I would guess that is why - plus you're probably cost concious so the idea of paying to store tyres etc would sound too expensive! You'dbe cheap like me and probably go down my route of scrapyards and internet sites 😬
  8. Well I got my 4 steelies from breakeryard.com...realised I'd lost my locking wheel nut, ordered and obtained a replacement from honda...and now ordered some vredstein wintrac's from mytyres.com Will there be any snow!? will i get stuck!? With a baby due on Dec 18th then I really really hope they work!
  9. Quoting Lotus Boy: That is to say, if you measure the width of a wheel it is the distance between the sections where the tyre bead would sit on the wheel, NOT outer lip to lip - so I wonder if it the same for the diameter value. That was my pure guess but i wanted to check - thanks to others for confirming and the diagram in the link is useful! I will order some 14" rubber to slip over my rim...
  10. 😳 I have bought some steelies, which I think are 14", however when I measure across the face they are just over 15"? BUT my 13" caterham wheels measure just over 14" across the face. Is there some other part of the wheel you're meant to measure? If so, I assume the difference in size will be about the same on most wheels so my 15"ers will in fact be 14" fr tyre buying purposes?
  11. I won't be doing the work myself - unless it is a 10 minute job! Whats the bounce test - i guess you bounce it and watch how much it rebounds? I will try that, but probably live with it for now
  12. Cheers, its an 02 plate with nearly 120k miles, reliable as anything...apart from me cooking the brakes and maybe the dampers! :)
  13. I have a Honda civic that's done a lot of miles, on bumpy country roads. The suspension is, politely, tired. It crashes over bumps, and really has to settle into corners before it will turn. It's also lost some self-centering of the steering. Any idea what it may take to fix it? Does it just need some new bushes, and be cheap? Or will it need new dampers, which are probably an uneconomical repair? Or something else? It gets a spirited drive over a few humped back bridges, twice a week...
  14. Efa - let us know how you get on with it...
  15. Ok so I can't get any data anyway? Appreciate everyone's replies!
  16. ah - thanks Charles... I have no idea if mine is EU2 or 3...it's a 1997 superlight (from SL and SLR days, pre R300 etc)
  17. I have searched the archives - I *think* K series cars have a MEMs ECU and I *think* this has an EOBD port which is labelled as a j1962 plug or something. My question is can you get out live information on revs, throttle position etc? Edited by - irrotational on 23 Sep 2011 12:04:38
  18. Just to add - i have found the equivalent for Android!:- genuinely quite excited by this...
  19. The nearest android equivalent is Trackmaster...which has more track-based features but doesn't record video.... Like all of these apps the problem is that your GPS only logs 1 position per second - a lot can happen in that time! With Trackmaster you can link up an external GPS reciever via bluetooth which will do 5 updates per second - these are reckoned to be good enough for "proper" track work. trackmaster here
  20. ...very OT and remote chance, but if anyone is selling one of these then let me know...going to have to cart two kids around soon and all of SWMBO's friends swear by these things.... edited to try and subscribe with email... Edited by - irrotational on 9 Sep 2011 22:54:08
  21. Stupid question - could you video both wheels and then try and add a line/bar as a reference point to the video? Someone did it to the F1 redbull car last year to show the wing flexing under load - the bar/line made it very obvious
  22. Daytime running lights...on a 7... 😳
  23. It takes a bit of tracking down... Solenoid details here
  24. For reference here is the main thread I used for info:- stuff on solenoid here
  25. Depending on what starter you've got - you can just replace the solenoid (if it's old/worn or the contacts are knackered) I got one for £15 via someone posting the link on here. The one you've got may even "just" be dirty and needs a clean. 1. Undo 3 (very fiddly) bolts to get the starter motor off 2. undo two more to take the solenoid off the starter motor 3. fit the plunger of the new solenoid over the little bracket that sticks up inside the starter motor 4. do up two bolts to attach new solenoid to starter 5. do up 3 (very fiddly) bolts to re-attach starter motor to car To put this in perspective - mine worked first time and I am not mechnical...someone else spent ages trying to get it to fit and couldn't...
