Gary, I think you have the L-shaped aluminium because that is to replace the hole left when the fresh air heater was removed. If your car never had a heater then it would be flat as seen in above pictures. Cars with the old style flat heater just needed a flat panel to cove the hole left on the 'shelf'. When I rebuilt mine in 2007/08 I then decided to make the scuttle removable as it gave greater access to dials/gauges/wiring from above rather than dangling upside down in the footwell. One of the best mods I've done.

#7 yes, on older cars the scuttle has 2 little 'ears' that sit below the level of the sides and attach to the chassis I used rivnuts in the chassis to secure thes 'ears'. I also used rivnuts in the dashboard loop to replace the self tappers that hold the poppers on for the tonneau. Hope that all makes sense....
  3. Just looked back through my records. I purchased mine in 2008 from a Rover dealership and the only reference on the invoice is the one previously quoted, sadly no reference to the car model. I can't be sure at all but maybe a Rover 200 or 400. Hopefully someone else can provide better details.......
  4. The flat oblong one on the red car, often referred to as a 'pastie tank' is a Rover item ref REAP8713. It comes with extra long legs which will need to be cut off.
  5. As far as I know there is nothing wrong with the crotch strap on top of the seat squab. Mrs A is living proof after putting it to a test in a head-on collision! But, as with any harness, they are only efficient if fastened properly.
  6. Malcolm, thanks for the info. I had some supports made up to help take the weight directly off the floorplan, far better than the aluminium U-channels originally fitted
  7. Brian, your not alone my 1993 chassis has the bracket in the same orientation as yours. Not a problem for me though as I have an S3 without lowered floors.
  8. I've used Comma G30 in both of my Radtecs. The first one showed no signs of weeping after 4 years when it was written off in an accident. The replacement is coincidentally also ok after 4 years........ No idea it if makes a difference but I tend to flush the whole cooling system when I replace the coolant.
  9. When I first had my 7, purchased 2nd hand, I knew nothing about cars and was frightened of touching anything, but with the help of friends/club members I began to learn and do little bits myself. It is all pretty simple and just needs confidence which you will gain over time. Sadly getting friends round at the moment is not possible, but then again Caterham, I think, are closed. I'm now happy to carry out my own service and 'sprint' the car. The best learning bit for me was completely rebuilding the 7, with the help of friends, as that taught me an awful lot.
  10. Like this......? Done primarily in my case as the Zetec runs with an open cambelt

  12. New shocks are allowed, after all they're 'safety upgrades'
  13. May have a VDO voltmeter in lurking in garage. Will report back tomorrow
  14. From our point of view it's a non-starter as Maggie has had the 'stay at home for 12 weeks' text from NHS as a severe asthmatic. The 7 is currently SORNed, MoT runs out next month.......
  15. Sevenoaks MC have already canceled their Motorsport at the Palace event that was due to be held on 24/25 May (same wekend as Gurston)
  16. I had an email from SCT this morning explaining the current position via a link to their website. Linky

  20. In January I replaced the 27 year/93,000 mile old De Dion tube as a precaution. On inspection the old one looked OK although it had been shimmed to combat a slight toe-in (it was previously checked and repowder-coated by Arch on 2008). Other jobs: Carried out a full service Fabricated a revised throttle pedal extension to aid toeing and heeling Repacked the silencer with Acousta-Fil, Polished the primaries and re-lagged them with DEI exhaust titanium wrap. Re: oil senders I've always found the VDO gauge and sender to be fine. In fact I have bought a new sender, but as a spare, I'm pretty sure mine is the 1993 original, maybe they were better quality in those days?
  21. The usual trick is to put the headrest in back-to-front as this will create more room when wearing a helmet
  22. A bit late to this thread, but as another Zetec owner I would simply remove the primaries one by one and bolt them to a piece of wood held in a vice, this makes wrapping them a doddle. I've never liked the stainless steel cable ties and have used decent stainless steel jubilee clips instead. I also used the opportunity to polish the primaries. For the wrap I used Titanium Exhaust Wrap from DEI Performance (2 of 2" x 15' rolls), although I used gloves this stuff doesn't need to be wetted. I also used a die stamp set to number the primaries, makes putting them back in order a simple task At least I didn't have a steering column to worry about

    Brake Discs

Standard brakes disks are the same front and rear. Try James Paddock ref 208715 These fit on my '93 imperial car running standard caterham supplied calipers (front and rear)
