  1. Personally I would ring and ask for Bruce or Phil.
  2. Hi Dave, glad you're making good use of it
  3. Perfect solution, just add a block of carpeted wood
  4. I asked Oxted a few years ago about getting a cloth seat retrimmed in leather. Although it also need some padding repairs as well it was not an economically viable option. Buying a nearly new 2nd hand leather seat and selling my cloth was was a far cheaper option
  5. Can't help I'm afraid but they do pop up on eBay from time to time, not cheap though.
  6. Thanks Elie, the Girling item looks to be the one
  7. My main question would be how easy it is to hook up to the existing clutch and transmission I converted my 1993 X/flow to a Zetec in 2010/11 and can confirm that the engine simply bolts on to the same clutch, bellhousing etc, but you will need new engine mounts. The carbs and primaries still stick out of the same holes although the sideskin needed enlarging for larger diameter primaries. I wrote an article in LowFlying in August 2012 detailing the process and the subsequent conversion to throttle bodies which can be seen here.
  8. I removed the pedal box cover and discovered a rather perished rubber boot (picture below). The AP m/c's ref is CP3627-101C. Does anybody know if this rubber boot is AP specific or if there is a universal rubber boot that will fit? I guess there's no chance of anybody actually having a spare lying around?
  9. Screw holding screwdrivers. These have been very handy for fiddly jobs
  10. I've used Mintex 1144 in standard calipers and standard discs on the front for pretty much 15 years (I think) and at least 60,000 miles. Car was originally a '93 X/flow Supersprint but a 200bhp Zetec since 2012. In that time I driven many mountain passes, trackdays and competed for last 10 years in sprints/hillclimbs. Never had a problem from cold and never suffered brake fade.
  11. In my case (albeit an older car) I removed the ignition barrel, installed a starter button, fitted my own immobliser, fitted a battery master switch and made the steering wheel removable. Insurance company were made aware of the changes and weren't concerned.
  12. Seems like a bargain to me. I can recommend this conditioner as mine is still in regular service after 20 years and it works on SLA and AGM batteries
  13. S3, aero is 'squashed' a little inwards
  14. Looks like I'll be downgrading... I only had the National A so I could take part in the main event (as opposed to the members handicap) at the Brighton Speed Trials. Handicap was Nat B 1 practice and 1 timed and main event was Nat A 1 practice 2 timed split into 13 classes. Brighton & Hove Motor Club have basically said that as so many people complained about the increase in the old Nat A licence that the event was in danger of collapsing. So they've announced today that they're scrapping the old format and the whole event will be one practice and two timed runs for everybody. That in turn means restricting the numbers. It will be interesting to see how much the event entry fee rises to cover fewer entrants.
  15. Geoff, I think this thread may be the one you you are referring too. Judging by the photos in 4# above it looks like Caterham changed their exhaust silencer supplier sometime around 2006? Also another thread shows how a non-repackable silencer can be modified.
  16. I've always used Isoflex Liquid Rubber and had good results
  17. Andy, The only comment I would add is that the HANS is an additional safety device and is nor solely restricted to use in classes 5 and above, you will find plenty of competitors in classes 1-4 that have voluntarily opted for such a device. There may be no need to have the harmess mounting points adjusted but you won't know until you try a HANS device, maybe there is another competitor near you who can offer assistance, we're a pretty friendly bunch There was a 420R in class 4 last year running on, I believe, ZZS tyres. The clubs regs often change as a result of accommodating the changes in Motorsport UK regs. My car has been in classes 4,5 and 6 over the last few years, but has been running the exact same spec including tyres. Whatever you decide to do beware of the addictive nature of the sport
  18. Hi Richard, I do have one gathering dust but I would like you to be aware that it is the 1993 original from my car which still has the steering lock attached, which I am sure you know can be carefully removed, and it also has the old style 'square cut' radius as opposed to the more recent 'curved' radius'. Yours for a beer if interested.
  19. Yep and Surfex HD per this thread
  20. On the other hand I have a suede steering wheel and generally don't wear gloves but if you look after the suede and clean it regularly then it will be fine. Naturally this will depend on usage just don't let the suede get too 'matted' before cleaning. I have the SPA 255mm D-shaped wheel which has a slightly smaller profile than the Momo and it significantly cheaper. at £118 v £218. Mine wheel is nearly 8 years old and I won't pretend it looks as good as new but it is in good condition.
  21. bjw, thanks for the clarification
  22. Just been to the garage and checked, mine are M4 (well an M4 nut moved freely up and down the thread)
