  1. Thanks Andrew, If I understand correctly, with motor hot and running, have the oil level "just under" the overflow outlet?
  2. I guess not. Easiest to answer with a photo
  3. Hi! when is best to check the level in the reservoir and where should it be at that stage? Last oil change resulted in the overflow tank overflowing and making a right mess... Thanks! Darren.
  4. Could it be that the engine management system is increasing the fuel being injected because the engine is "not yet up to temperature" and I therefore get more "pops and crackles" from the sidepipe? It is marginal and very subjective, but reading your comment ScottR400D, prompted me to draw this correlation...
  5. Hi All, with the standard thermostat I was running around 95dC coolant temp with easy driving, but it didn't take much either by way of good weather or slightly harder driving to reach 100-102dC and in traffic in good weather 105dC was the norm. So I changed the thermostat to the 82dC version... and now only in hot weather traffic does it get above 85dC. I also changed the fan switch to 87/82. These changes improved the subjective feeling of a very hot engine and made the driver's footwell much more tolerable in my LHD car where the feet are very close to the manifold (which is wrapped). The questions: 1. Am I running too cool for the engine's WELL-BEING and should I change back to the standard thermostat but keep the low temp fan switch? 2. Is 105dC too hot for the engine's WELL-BEING? 3. Any other proven options/experience to improve WELL-BEING of the driver's feet :-) Looking forward to your opinions... Thanks!
  6. Thanks for all that prompt response! Now I just need to find the time to crawl underneath... house renovations have prio at the moment. The car is a 1993 C20XE... I've had it for just over a year now, any haven't yet got to identify the GB and the LSD manufacturers... shame on me! Scott400D.... what clues from the profile pic got you so close to identifying the age and the engine?!
  7. Hi all! is it normal to get a knocking sound coming from the LSD when driving over bumps and low speed? ... and... tell me about oils please. Firstly, how to best check level and quality - and when to change? Many thanks! Darren.
  8. As a first step to a 3D print, I'm testing some Aluminium sheet shaped as a landscape holder - due to space limitations. For the moment held by velcro and a bit rattly.
  9. Thanks to all - esp for the PMs!
  10. I use ContiEcoContact 6 in 185/60R14 with C20XE and am very happy.
  11. Any tips on which Haynes manual - or any other literature - contains good maintenance info on this engine? thanks and regards, Darren.
  12. Just completed mine on a hand formed 60x5mm powder coated aluminium bracket fixed between the wheel carrier and the car, with a 4mm slot on the back to glue the cable in to. Cable slips under the boot cover and along the inside rim to the wiring harness. The lower end of the bracket rests against the padding. Remains to be seen if a clip holder (and wire protector) under the boot cover over the boot rim is needed to stop it slipping off to one side... let's "drive and see"...
  13. I just completed mine from Douglas scraps. The arm lengths are 450 for the nosecone and 650 for the bonnet.
  14. Hi! I see Caterham is currently sold out. Anyone with one in good condition "left over" and willing to post to Germany? Thanks! Darren
