  1. I have a standard ecu on a car exactly as yours and there is no worries with the ecu remembering it's settings. The only thing I will say is you will have to reset the immobiliser, 4 or 5 blips of the unlock on the key fob and all will be fine. Doug
  2. Black/Dark colour heading into Lambourn. You slowed for some horses right outside my house. Doug
  3. Ian J Yes it does have a tow bar, and I did think about it!! But two fun cars, I wouldn't have a place to live or keep them anymore !
  4. On behalf of a friend. here Doug
  5. Just to add to the linked thread above, the Brise starter fitted to my 1.6k with 4-1 exhaust has a seperate solonoid and is not the axial one. It works a treat and was installed by the previous owner who got fed up with 'k click disease' whilst in Italy with the car. So it does cure that problem, on this car at least. Doug
  6. Brand new Trimetals Senturion 15139 Gas cylinder store houses two 19 Kg bottles. Mounting points for regulator and chains as shown here We were going to use it for our gas hob bottles but have decied to go for a new kitchen and electric hob now !!. The unit is built up but has never been outside. £200 ono. Collect or GONADS. Doug
  7. How about a standard mirror and our old friend sticky back velcro?? Just a thought Doug

    Clutch question

*arrowup*As he said. Having just done this very job, once you have got to the friction plate you have taken off the pressure plate, so it is purely cost of parts that is different. I also found that after 20k miles one of the rivets on the friction plate was just making a score on the presssure plate, so I was glad I plumped to do the lot. Doug
  9. No you dont need to take the bar off, or at least I didn't. Just keep trying, I seem to recall it comes out diagonally across the boot opening away from the fuel filler, with the floor narrow bit up and then out the near side rear corner of the car, if that makes sense. Mine just fits through, maybe the previous owner of mine filed it to fit ?? Good Luck Doug
  10. *arrowup*No but the water in it and in the hoses to it is. Doug
  11. I use velcro on the front one so I can swap it over for MOT purposes, the 'small one ' I use is the correct font just 2/3 rds the size. It is suggested on Track days that if you don't mant anyone to know it's you on a jolly then tape over/remove the plates as the pics get posted on the web. Also a plus for velcro is if you do break a plate, bird strike/stone chip etc you can get a new one and affix without all that old glue removal. Doug

    Engine movement

Like he said I can't get my little finger between the alternator and the chassis rail, so about 4 mm clearance, that used to knock on hard cornering. I am hoping it has stopped now!! The car does shake a little but only when cold on a lumpy idle. Doug
  13. I have a set of those, but the bolt in question is tucked in behind the solonoid and I can't get a straight run onto it, I have tried a set of ball end allen keys but that was too long and fowled on the exhaust, guess the angle grinder is coming out then ! I will take some photos and send them on when the snow lets me move the cars and get in the garage !! Doug

    Engine movement

I have recently changed my engine mount rubbers on a K 1.6 ss, and yes the engine is rock solid on the mounts. The old ones were allowing the alternator and dry sump pump to clash with the chassis when cornering on track, I could just feel the engine move if I shock it then but not now. Hope this helps. Doug
  15. I have a 4-1 caterham exhaust on a 1.6 ss and a Brise starter( fitted in Italy by the previous owner). I will take a look and see if this mod has been done or how it has been done. The wiring is close to the exhaust but doesn't touch by a long way. I had no idea there was an issue. I have recently removed the engine, having to take out the starter. The bottom most Allen bolt for the starter is a pig to get to, in fact I ended up using grips to undo it, other than a cut down allen key, any thoughts on how to get it done up nicely? Doug

    Torque settings?

ARB Mounts 15lbft or 20 Nm Upper wishbone front 30 lbft or 41 Nm From the Caterham build manual for De Dion with K series. Very easy to find as i am sorting it after it ended up all over the floor in a 'drop the folder' incident Doug
  17. 1.6 K SS c/w dry sump and 6 sp box I am taking the engine out this weekend to change the crb, yes I know i can do it with the engine in but I am doing engine mount rubbers friction and pressure plate etc etc too, Now, do I split engine and gbox in the car and leave the box there, or is it just as easy to take the lot out in one go, I have a gearbox mount rubber also to change if I go this route. My main fear is I don't have a rear oil seal for the box, Do these seals weep when disturbed? TIA Doug
  18. As it says, being trailored behind a green van, saw you around Junc 5 westbound. Reg X8 ___ Doug
  19. Try Motor Parts Direct, they seem to be fairly widespread and they are a Comma dealer in my area and I get the motorsport oil from them, sorry can't remember the price. Doug PS I don't work for them !
  20. ta for that, will be in touch tommorow I expect. Any body need an inlet manifold gasket? Doug
  21. Silly little question, car is 1.6 SS with Rover plastic inlet manifold I have ordered and been sent one of these here, the delivery note says it is for a VHPD engine. Are all these gaskets the same for the K's or do I need another? TIA Doug
  22. The race spec one goes over the top of the propshaft/diff and is a right pig to fit!! These were as fitted to pre 2000 cars when a rear ARB was speced etc. The other one goes unerneath the whole of the suspension and also I understand has different mounts. Doug
