  1. I have a very similar problem and it drives me insane. Made worse by the fact that I am hundreds of miles from a rolling road or caterham expert. My latest attempt is to fit a wideband lambda and let the merald check the fuelling and from there try the timing again. If it doesn't work a long road trip to a rolling road will be needed
  2. Hi Guys, I am trying to get a 12v feed to my wideband lambda but I am a complete muppet when it comes to wiring, at least I am when it comes to when finding a 12v feed. I was going to use the 12v feed from MFRUfrom the original lambda narrow band but when I stick a meter on it I'm not getting any reading. I've been told to take a feed from somewhere inside the fuse box but I'm afraid I'll pull something apart i cant put back again. It's not exactly easy to get access in the footwell. Can somebody help me out with perhaps a pic or a colour of cable to use maybe from a switch or even the ignition for the feed. Thanks BTW car is a 19991.8 K series engined car. Finnie
  3. That's what I actually thought about the iacv but there is a page in the emerald ecu section which shows the set up. I have the manual so will read through more. Will look that up when I get home.
  4. So a lucky internet hit resulted that it is the MFRU, can anyone give me an idiots guide as to how this functions and what it does? How do I control it etc, what each plug does??? Basically i want to know if I can use the same pin that the original lambda used to supply the power supply for the emerald???? Thanks again Finnie
  5. Can anyone at least then tell me what the box with the silver bracket is. I cant see what it is in the manual. I have four wires coming from the lambda probe, two go to the emerald connector for the lambda, ( i think pins 7 and 18) one big black wire goes into another bunch of taped and, get this, shielded wires which seem to go back to the neutral of the battery. Is this some wierd way of neutralising and shielding the other wiring. The last wire then goes to this mystery box. Is this some kind of switched power disctribution box? Also regarding the Emerald program, it seems to be selected that i have a wideband fitted yet closed loop is not used. If i also go into the AFR page of the ecu it says the lambda isn't used at all? I'm very confused. I put everything back together yesterday and glad to say it all still runs. Still have the wideband on my kitchen table. Another thing i also found out is that I apparently still have the IACV fitted. I thought the emerald was doing the business. Would i be better using the emerald to control the idle. I think yes but not sure of the nest way to start changing over. Help! (off to a course today so can't fiddle til the end of week but all help greatly appreciated!) Finnie
  6. So I am stripping the wiring back today with the aim to disconnect the narrow band lambda that I have and fit the innovate. The install looks simple enough but I am worried about what i am disconnecting with the old. There are so many wires and one is going to another box which sits just beside the emerald ecu. See this photo (emerald not in this pic but you can guess where it normally sits!) http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b184/finnieglasgow/Caterham/IMG_0317.jpg The cabling is so different from the innovate and there are loads fo wires coming back from this box to the ecu yet only one goes to it. Surely this isn't a wideband I'm trying to remove is it?? General pic of my pain today! http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b184/finnieglasgow/Caterham/IMG_0318.jpg Also got another quick question, I see the drawing of pin numbers for the emerald but am confused which side it's started from From this pic can someone tell me which is pin 1 etc so that i can get my numbers right http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b184/finnieglasgow/Caterham/IMG_0319.jpg Thanks Finnie

    Wideband

After a winter of the car sitting neglected it's time to get the yellow peril out when i get back onshore next week. I've got an emerald in the car and have wideband lambda sitting in my cupboard waiting to be fitted. It's time to do it but I'm wondering how easy it is. I've read the instructions and all that but am just worried that after i do it, the car won't start. But thinking about it, will the wideband installation affect the current map? In my mind the answer is no but I'm not sure. The car has a narow band so I assume it's sending some kind of signal to the ecu at some point. If I take away that signal, am i dead in the water until it's all set up. I have some time booked with a more knowledgable ecu man who has said he can sort my kangaroo petrol issues and he needs the wideband. I'd hoped to save him time by installing it myself! He is a 80 mile drive away so getting the car to him if I break something will be a problem Any advice welcome Main worry is that when I remove the wiring for the narrow band is that the wideband wont use the same connections to the ecu. Also worried that the new wideband connections are already being used for something else and I shouldn't remove them!!! Car is not standard and i didn't build it so am terrified of disconnecting something important. All advice welcome! Thanks
  9. I heard there were problems with the brise and the 4-1 exhaust. Mine is a 4-2-1 so no issues
  10. When I first got the car I had to quite often use a battery jump thing to get the car going but I got in contact with Brise and they got me an axial. Started no probs since. Was a plug and play fitting job too. Very happy with it!

    Trip down south

any links to R&R, gearbox was rebiult in 2006 so wouldn't need to be stripped I don't think. Surely a wee test drive listen and look would do the job?

    Trip down south

Plan at the moment is to drive to Glasgow to meet transport co. either via ullapool or through Skye and Glencoe. Then will fly down myself a couple of weeks later for the remapping. Plan to drive all the way back up though seeing as engine will be in it's finest fettle then. Never even put the roof on the car yet so will have to practise getting in and out through those tiny doors!!!! Oh and yes it is South, It's 600 miles from Ullapool!!!!!!!!!
  14. So have just decided to send the car all the way south from the Isle of lewis (north west coast of Scotland) down to Oily for a wee upgrade in November! Getting a wee bit of polishing etc to get it up to 230 ish bhp, then a nice remap to sort out my throttle kangaroo issues sorted once and for all. Now obviously the car doesn't get down south very often so as I'll be driving it back north I'll be passing not too far from caterham midlands. Would it be worth calling in there (or anywhere else) for them to have a general service / check of the rest of the car to see if everything else is on order? Suspension, steering etc??? Or am I being dumb and oily will check anyway???
  15. I'm offshore right now so can't measure but what size can I fit under my Mike Barnby 13" mag alloys?? Thinking of more power so it may be sensible to go for four pots???
