  1. GoPros have such terrible software in them you're going to get a range of views, and it'll probably just be a case of buy one and see how you get on Saying that, I run an 8 with USB power from the car, a 256gb card in it, and it'll record very happily for circa 8 hours. The 8s were rumoured to freeze every now and then, and mine has done that on occasion. Although not for a while now. Removing the battery and putting it back in resets it. The 9s were supposed to be total rubbish, and the 10s have various reported problems. I'm hoping club video expert Mr Martin drops into this thread for comment - he has a lot of GoPro experience! All through-the-windscreen views here (track days a good example) are filmed with the GoPro 8 (and an external, Lavalier, mic under the dash to get better sound). Sorry that might not help you with a decision though! --Mark
  2. #3 - can you retrofit just the armrests to existing doors? (ie you don't have to buy whole new doors?)
  3. Hello folks, New owner Pete [ptr_drvr] has a thread which has turned into a bit of a discussion about the Nordschleife. So I was wondering how many other folks would be interested in driving their Caterham around it, but not on a Touristenfahten day? this year with DNevents, and I firmly intend to go back next year. It's not a terribly cheap day (I think it was about £550 this year) but it is well run, and mostly full of Porsche GT3s I had zero problems with the standard of driving that day, so I will return next year. They seem to have a fairly consistent visit in May - and if you're interested in doing it too I'd be happy to gather a group, sort the hotel, and organise the road trip to get there (I had great fun to get there this year!)If you're at all tentatively interested, comment on this thread, and when DNevents release dates later in the year I'll come back and check if folks are completely up for it. --Mark

    Fuel guage

I realised very quickly that my 2012 R400 gauge was largely nonsense I fill up when the trip is over 150 miles, and it pretty much always takes circa 22 litres at that. I guess that 180 would be about empty - which fits with JV's fill up prompt. I once ran the gauge to empty, did a further 30 miles, and it still only took 25 litres
  5. What's the little black square above it Stu?
  6. TomB — replacing the horn, was that just a simple 'buy a different one and fit it' job? I have been contemplating getting rid of Noddy for something a little better.
  7. Very good point DerekH! I don't worry about the speedo. Everybody knows Caterham dials are far from reliable I'd like to see somebody try using a video as proof of speeding. Good luck :)
  8. I set the GoPro lower on the roll over bar to emulate a passenger's eye view. For audio I have the media mod, and run a Rode Smartlav under the dash, on the left side edge. Gives a good result in terms of audio quality I think …
  9. If you're interested in seeing what the JAL [Caterham] lights look like at night, at 2m17 I have them on, and put full beam on.
  10. #3 Did you keep the stock Caterham engine management (MBE?) with your upgrade Scott?
  11. "apart from the fact your car runs on fermented dinosaurs" I laughed out loud, and a little nervously, at the dislocated shoulder bit too. One can relate. Hopefully your stress will ease John, with the knowledge that you've massively improved the world for 20+ Caterham owners. It's now a considerably smoother place for downshifting.
  12. I have a Noco, which I use for powering my Quickjacklift. I tend to carry it in the Cat too, although I've not had to use it *crosses fingers*
  13. I ended up doodling my own design in shapr3d John, albeit massively inspired (more or less copied ) by your design. It works a treat!
  14. Too late now (My Cat is going nowhere, so if the dash gets damaged, it's only me that needs to worry about it)
  15. One of these Phillip? I've not tried one, but would be interested in hearing the results.
  16. There was another thread a while ago about GoPros and sound. I've been using a Rode Smartlav on the roll bar, with a deadcat on it, and it was . Tried it in the passenger footwell last week — clamped to the underside of the dashboard. I also disabled GoPro's Hypersmooth to stop that 'sea sickness' wobbling malarkey. .
  17. Neh, I think you're on to something there Nigel. I've had cards — especially hotel keys — get fritzed by magnets. I don't think the PD case has the magnets though, I think they're all in the holders. I think.
  18. As Jonathan quotes — 3M adhesive. It feels like I could hang off it Will take it for a bumpy B-road blat later and see if the phone hangs on …
  19. Turned off the Hypersmooth stuff for Snetterton last week, and popped the Smartlav just under the dash; in the passenger footwell, but clipped onto the underside of the carbon. Nice thin edge works a treat. I think the sound quality was much better there…
  20. Hello folks, I'm sure we all have countless solutions for mounting a mobile phone in our Sevens, but I thought I'd share my latest. I've been a fan of Peak Design stuff for a few years (everything is so well thought out — their bags are amazing) and they've recently made a whole range of mobile things. It starts with a case, that has magnets in — and you can probably guess where it goes from there. All their holders use strong magnets, and they've done a car dash mount that features inbuilt charging. Very handy for recent iPhones. Here's how it looks in mine… --Mark
  21. You know, I only just noticed that in the ebay confirmation email Maybe I should've checked where they were coming from huh
