  1. The union you refer to doesn't have any washers. On my kit it was already fitted as such. The instructions you quote seem to refer to the front brake hose connections, through the alloy panel.
  2. Thanks John, starting make sense now. Peter
  3. Thanks John, it does help. I'm leaning towards AT Power shaftless butterfly TBs and trying to figure out the best size. I'm thinking 42mm will be fine, though the designation is 42mm they have oval bores, equivalent to 42mm diam. I know the head has oval inlets too but can't find the dimensions anywhere.
  4. Anyone know what diameter the port size is or the diameter of the throttle bodies supplied by CC? Looking at options from Titan and others there seem to be various dimensions.
  5. I tend to put Shell 98 in my R400 but have on several occasions not been able to get it and have run it on a branded 95. I can't say I've noticed any difference. My owners manual says 95.
  6. If they're the same as mine, separate the plug and release each wire by using a small screwdriver to release the plastic tag that holds the wire in place. Quite easy to see if you look closely at the plug from the connecting side, if you see what I mean.
  7. Don't make the mistake of buying a Bremmel, get a Dremel, much better!
  8. "When I built mine I found the existing manual perfectly OK for the bits it covered.... the tricky bit was those it did not (No info on how to set up the cooling pipework which was solved by an emailed hand drawn diagram from CC ) " I would agree with this. In the case of the cooling, I figured it out, did my own drawing which I scanned and mailed to CC for approval!
  9. I'm not sure of the arrangement in question so couldn't say what would be the best tool for this but there is quite a wide range of tools available. I've used both the hook sort and slide hammer, which sometimes depends on being able to put a self tapping screw into the seal. There are quite a few videos on line too, showing different methods.
  10. Have you looked at the wide range of seal removal tools available? A cold chisel isn't necessarily blunt, by the way. Any chisel used for cutting materials cold is a cold chisel and most of them work best when they're sharp!
  11. Rate of self centring is controlled by castor, though it might be simpler to just keep hold of the wheel.
  12. Really!? Wow! That seems a bit drastic. I managed to get the pads on the top back of the seats to stick by solvent cleaning the surface but just can't get adhesion under the front edge. Was wondering if light abrasion might help? If not I'll have to go your way, what adhesive did you use?
  13. I bought some seat pads to fit to my Tillett seats. Having a real job getting the felt side of the Velcro system to adhere to the seats. Any recommendations for surface preparation?
  14. When I ordered my R400, which had as standard an Aeroscreen I ordered the weather equipment. When the kit arrived it had the full screen already fitted. I bought and fitted a Carbon Aeroscreen later.
  15. Doesn't the screen come in the weather equipment pack?
  16. I recently changed for MTL and I am thinking the change is a little better. Seems not so baulky when cold and lighter/less notchy to change when hot. Not a lot but I'm happy there is an improvement.
  17. You're welcome. Yes, I realised the mistake I made with my alias early on! Hope you can see the slots in the cowl clearly, let me know if you want the full image.
  18. Yes it has changed a lot. Back then it could well have been Dot 3, or even a castor oil based fluid, both of which have much lower auto ignition temperatures than Dot 4 or 5.1. I understand you can still get Dot 3, though it's much more likely to be 4 or 5.1 that's stocked. Again from what I read Dot 3 isn't good enough for a modern, performance disc braking system.
  19. As Jonathan predicted! Dot 3,4 or 5 brake fluid flash point, above 275F Petrol flash point below -45F Auto ignition Dot 4 1200F, Dot 3 and petrol about 525F
  20. Some interesting information in this thread but I'm puzzled by the comments about the flash point of brake fluid being lower than that of petrol, which it isn't. It's much, much higher, as is its boiling point, for obvious reasons. Also from what I can find the auto ignition points are similar for modern brake fluids and petrol.
  21. Hope these help. I remember now that the slots in the cowl were about right or needed minor dremelling, but you can see the size they were in these images. M6 setscrew and nyloc hold the brackets on and M8 plain, as I said, for the rubber mounts. If these images are hard to see, message me with you e mail and ill send you the originals. Also, the first image was to demo to CC that they'd sent me too long rubber mounts, the correct ones are shown in the other images. Regards Peter Scott
  22. I didn't use a cone cutter, just a junior saw and a dremel. I'll still post up any pics I might have asap.
  23. Thinking further the ARB does go through the cowl too, you have to have it in place before ARB fitted I think. Again from memory I think I had to relieve either the slots or the holes that mount it to the rubber bushes I'll post some pics when I get home Wednesday, I'm sure I have some good ones of this.
