Graham Hutton
How often do you guys grease the universal joint on the prop shaft? Just running through all my winter servicing and I noticed that it isn't on the service schedule that is listed on the club website. Just interested 🙂
ChrisC
For me it’s a once a year task during MOT, but don’t think it’s necessary at that frequency. I bet 2 -3 years would be fine depending on mileage, assuming your UJ isn’t sealed for life, as some are.

Graham Hutton
Thanks chaps. I'm 3 years in so I'll crawl under and do it whilst it's on the axle stands. I'd better add it to my annual list too. I'm cross with myself for forgetting until now!
7 wonders of the world
When ever I'm under the car mine gets a few pumps in each nipple... Only takes a few seconds..
BigCol
Later prop shafts don’t have grease nipples (well, mine on a 2013 car doesn’t)

Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted January 23 Leadership Team Share Posted January 23 Later cars don't have them and they have been known to fail, therefore if the prop is out for any reason it's worth having grease nipples fitted.
John Vine
My 2008 R400D has them (M6x1.0 x 23 "long"), plus a big label on the prop: And a part-number label: I grease them every year or two, whenever I'm under the car. JV

7 wonders of the world
If the prop is out it's worth getting better quality uj's fitted with nipple and rebalanced. My 2006 prop joints were knackered after 7months so that and my current prop were rebuild BT Proptech.. He wasn't very complimentary about the budget joints that were in from the factory.... If there’s an issue then it must be down to poor quality parts being used because greased for life UJs should last years end years. Like they do on millions of cars that have them. I look at mine every year, there’s no play in the joints and they’re quite free but then again the mileage is quite low. I think the fact that both ends are fixed and the angles are very small helps. john milner
2003. Nipple at each end gets an annual squirt. Probably more than it needs as apart from my errors nothing is making a mess so not a lot can be leaving the joints.
Graham Hutton
Yes my nipples have now been fully greased too. I'm sure you are all relieved to hear that! Appreciate the advice as always

Gridgway
So where does all this annual grease go then? There can't be a big hole somewhere to fill.
DanRo
Mine seems to go onto the sides of the transmission tunnel where it performs a secondary anti-corrosion function.
