Wrightpayne
Do later model caterhams run a CANBUS wiring system? Tintops usually need an additional canbus error (bulb out) warning cheat device in addition to the LED bulb.Ian
Petethediesel
Morning Ian, Mine is a 2018 360 and it was a simple bulb replacement.
CtrMint
Hi Ian,They do run CANBUS, it's specifically ISO 15765 without frame control. I've not seen any messaging relating to lighting etc.Mark
Wrightpayne
Thanks - my car has the old spaghetti style loom so no issues for me. Been doing a lot of research on LEDs for my 2018 VW Transporter as the H4 headlights are dire, so understand some of the canbus issues.I've stuck some of the latest Osram laser 150% bulbs in the VW and they are a lot better.(thanks to 7WOW's suggestion).Ian
CtrMint
Hi Pete,Just wondering is the beam pattern adjustable? I've been doing some reading around the LED bulbs as I knew nothing about them and I came across some which could be rotated and locked into place with integrated grub screws. The rotation allows the installation to ensure the beam pattern is spot on. Thanks
Member Jonathan Kay Posted January 10, 2020 Member Share Posted January 10, 2020 I emailed Gemzoe Motorsport about these but didn't get a reply.Jonathan
TomB
I received my bulbs from Dave Gemzoe yesterday, and fitted them this morning in about 20mins. The bulb can be adjusted by rotating the core of the bulb (ie the lighty up part and the heat exchanger) around the three pronged fitting, which has a series of indentations to fine tune it. Its better seen than described, its really not difficult. I've left mine as supplied, ie unadjusted as I cant tell yet whether its level or not due being in the garage. I'll upload some pictures shortly before and after.
TomB
Olds bulbsNew bulbsBut tricky to see, but the light is whiter and brighter. I cant tell about alignment due to the way the car is position in the garage and the clutter at that end of the garage!

Petethediesel
Hello Mark, No there is no adjustment but the set alignment is pretty good and checked by Oakmere as fine. Stating the obvious we do have vertical and horizontal adjustment by moving the headlights rather more than most tintops.
TomB
If we’re talking about the Dave Gemzoe supplied bulbs, they can be adjusted:
Petethediesel
Hadn't spotted that, but not needed for me as the beam was fine. Thanks
CtrMint
It's good they can be adjusted as I believe the beam shape or pattern is important in addition to the direction from the lamp itself.Could I ask where does the driver unit go on the 7, is there space behind the reflector? SM25T
I have the Classic Car LED headlight bulbs and everything fits inside my 5.75" bowls.
nickh7
As I've said before my MOT station commented on how good the light pattern was unlike the others they had seen. I've used the standard set up. Its typical of Dave Gemzoe he wont sell anything without doing his research and making sure they work and work properly. Yes you can often by cheaper but I doubt they are better. That's why I have no worries about recommending items/ services he offers .
Petethediesel
I fully endorse your comment on Dave G. Sells nothing without verifying the quality. I have been watching his development of a turbo kit for the Sigma engine, and been very impressed by the quality of the engineering in play. twincamtim
This might seem a stupid question.....Will these bulbs fit a 1999 imperial car fitted with the smaller headlamp units and without any wiring mods etc?
TomB
Should do, assuming the wiring is standard. Mines got the 5 3/4 inch lights, and they fitted inside the shell no problem.
BigCol
Knowing Dave Gemzoe's knowledge, abilities and attention to detail, I would be confident using items he recommends/supplies but like SM25T in post #40, I use replacement bulbs from Classic Car LEDs.As Tony the Tiger says "They're Great!" 7 wonders of the world
Just been looking for some 501 LED bulbs and found this articlehttps://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/blog/are-led-headlight-bulbs-the-brightest/
Ralph45
I've just fitted my Dave Gemzoe led head light bulbs and the difference they make is truly like night and day. Im really pleased with the results. The led and driver body easily fit inside my 5 3/4 headlight bowls and as #37 TomB uploaded image shows they have adjustment to ensure the led is upright inside the headlight bowl by means of rotating the led bulb and driver in the holder, the part with the three flats you can only fit a certain way,I'm sure you know what I mean by that if you look at #37.And while fitting them I took the chance to clean up the inside of the headlight glass and the reflectors looks fresh and up to date. YoSDeNS AR
The upgrade is just for the lamps, as a swap for an H4 lamp. I'm not sure if the are E marked, but they will sit inside the headlamps you have that are E marked. Mine got through the MOT no problem.
YoSDeNS AR
I'm using Dave Gemzoe's lamps in 5" shells, no problem. The night driving experience is massively improved, driving at the speed limit is now not a leap of faith, a leap in the dark. Brilliant is the word.
