  1. I changed my diff seals twice as oil coming out - everything in order, breather tube coiled up etc etc. STILL leaked. I then replaced the breather tube, led it up to the boot space (coke can cable tied on aft cage upright). The "diff seal" has never leaked since.....
  2. and hardly appropriate on our forum, is it? I'm sure there's at least one person who's had a bad experience, once, everywhere you look. Not sure we should be slating some ones business publically.

    List 1B

Clive Avon ZZR A24 compound. In my opinion, a better tyre. Approximately 8KG weight saving, more consistent off the line and run to run. Better turn in especially on first couple of corners. I wouldn't go back but others would disagree. Not sure which is ultimately fastest, indeed most of the class 3 records and spec' prod' records are on the Kumho I think. Choice is yours.
  4. I run mine on 9's - Paul ran his on 7's I think so quite a big range. The set I have on MB rims that are not "Knurled" can slip on the wheel. Can't see it makes a blind bit of difference though.
  5. Hi Dave My point was, everybody wants everything cheaper and cheaper - in fact for less than it costs to do a "proper job". If Caterham charged £2K more for better paint then we'd all think the car was too expensive and demand a discount. You get what you pay for I think. Can you tell I've had a good morning in the office...... perhaps this is not appropriate for this section of the forum. Apologies all, but you get my point? Best Stu
  6. There is only one reason that race numbers (or any other graphic) pulls the paint off. That is that the glue adhesive used for the graphic is stronger than the paint adhesion to the car. If the car is painted properly, no amount of adhesive on the graphic will pull the paint. Starting from bare metal, the surface must be abraded and de-greased properly, the primer coat must be applied in the correct environment, the topcoat that follows should either have a chemical key (strict temperature and overcoat times to be adhered to) or be mechanically abraded between the primer and top coats. Finally, the topcoat must be "baked" off in a temperature controlled oven. It's our own fault that the paint comes off and I don't think any blame should be passed to Caterham / TSK or anyone else who paints Caterhams. The reality is that none of us wants to pay what it actually costs to paint our car properly so we end up getting what we pay for. I wouldn't do it for less than £4K plus VAT and you'd all laugh at me if I quoted that. You can help the paint work out as others have said, by applying wax on the paint before the graphic and by using heat on removal. Either that or put a white background on the car and live with the fact that when you eventually remove it, you'll be in for a re spray.
  7. Alan Can you send me a picture of the seat please. Here or my work e-mail. Thanks Stuart
  8. Simon, Matthew Good calendar and much better spread. Great to see Wiscombe back on the calendar! In two minds, about the double header at Harewood. Personally I love the venue so wouldn't mind having a double points weekend, but the single day will encourage more people to do other events so should increase attendance elsewhere. On balance, I think it's the right decision. All I have to do now is find the time to do it and decide which class I would be very happy to help again at the intro day so put my name down for that please. Stuart
  9. You never said we were allowed aero.. Or do I have to go buy a Westfield if I want to bolt extra gear on my car (runs and hides)
  10. AND Guido is VERY good at changing wheels so what are you trying to say Rob? *rolleyes* They have funnily enough spotted the colour match but noticed there is a wheel missing and he hasn't got a cage........... 😬 Maybe I could see if there is a Guido for hire so I could sit on my 🙆🏻 whilst my wheels get changed between runs..... or would that be taking it too seriously
  11. Very disappointed not to get another trophy just for not turning up:sulk 😬 😬: My children love the "Piston Cup" that I got for just turning up at Curborough 😬 but have pointed out that they're not quite sure why I have it as they didn't see me anywhere in the movie......... Very well done to Matthew on the overall. I have been studying the in car footage in preparation for next year. You were definitely 4 wheels off by the way Matthew - the margin and surface is irrelevant . Well done to all the other class winners too. I hope to see most of you next year. Matthew, can you call or e-mail me when you get a chance in order that we can sort out getting my / your trophy (and the class 4 one) back to you so you can engrave your name on it. zero777five six7707six. Thanks. Best Stu
  12. Dear all Was kind of hoping Mike would be going to Anglesey, but he's not. I need to get my trophies back. Matt, when do you need them by and I'll figure something out. Could probably drop them up to Rob or Shaun or Mark if that would suit (and be okay by them) assuming you'll see them sooner than I'll see you. Alternatively, I may do a little trip to South Wales in the next week or two so could drop in to Simon or David. Best Stuart 077seven5 six77o76
  13. There's a Caged cage in the for sale section - nothing to do wih me.
  14. I have honeycomb on rear bulkhead and side panels as far as the pedal box. In addition, a lowered floor with my kevlar/carbon seat sat on 15mm ally honeycomb. Also an SLR cage. I was going to take it all out to save weight but it gives me a slightly warmer feeling inside when the trees and fence posts are going past at over 100mph! (this is not on the public highway by the way) Material all from Arch. The ally / nomex panel is much stiffer than kevlar sheet - you could laminate up a kevlar nomex sandwich but only if cost is not an issue (I'd vacuum it for you for about £250sqfoot )- weight saving is neglible
  15. Hi Grubbster Agree with all you say on main dealers! I had a pop at Nissan (and didn't pay their bill) the last time my truck went there (2010). Same with Audi main dealer - I could go on....... Firstly, never use knock on weights on alloy wheels. They damage the rim and lead to corrosion. Any good tyre fitter will use stick on only - they're normally the guys who spin the wheel once, stick the weights on, check and it's perfect. When you need new tyres, the goodyear wrangler is a better tyre all round based on experience of everyone I know who has a truck. I use Mike at Hamble Tyres in Hamble. Never even ask him how much anymore as he's always competetive or cheaper and I value the service. He even drove to Telford one morning for me to get some Kumho's that weren't delivered on time (at no charge!) I use Field Motors in Botley for Truck, Van and Car. Again, very trustworthy, do a good job and bill fairly and at a good rate so I never ask then to quote first. And of course Tom New for the Caterham. I'm sure there are other good people out there but that's who I know local to us down here. Good luck Stuart P.S. I'll try and get to a solent meet before the year's out.
  16. Shaun You're welcome to borrow my silencer for the day if that helps 😬
  17. Clearly not just my car you have no respect for then.... 😬 😬 😬 No seriously, very impressed (and Mark) that you managed to remember what the sticky thing in the middle does, that the clutch is not just for setting the launch control and how to feather the throttle when going round corners. Just remember next time that it is polite to leave about 1 second between your time and the car owners'. See you next time David, Jeremy, Mike *thumbup* - I can see I'm going to have to come back to class 4 and not 7!
  18. Rob, I think Mr Rogers won't have anyone left on his Christmas card list by the weekend All in jest Simon - and nothing to worry about Steffan. I seem to remember the last time Simon drove my car around Curborough, the tell-tale said 8000rpm and 100mph 😬
  19. Shame I can't be there, but I put my money on Mark. 😬 With no team orders (I hear) this time, It's not Alan's engine anyway and Rob will be standing by with a spare gearbox *eek* Simon will be on 1a's with no traction control and even has to get the car off the startline all on his own......... I am looking forward to the video have fun *wavey* *wavey*
  20. Shame that this may ruin an otherwise good run....... My feeling is that if there is a penalty then there should be more than one cone - perhaps 2 or 3 leading up to the apex cone (like the harewood clapper boards for example). This way you could actually see the corner on approach. For me, an instinctive avoidance (knowing there's a penalty) at that speed and on the edge of control, may result in a fairly big off. Just my tuppence....... I can't speak for others but hitting the cone is not deliberate - carbon is expensive! You can cut every other corner (and not just at Curborough) so what's the big deal here?
  21. and no dry sump and 440KG - Really......... so, that's 58KG lighter than mine and lighter than the Busa's?
  22. Rob will probably disagree with me on this, but.... Since I binned windows 8, clean installed 7 pro and turned off the updates since january and not updated to the new explorer, I've not had any computer problems. Maybe I'm getting old and grumpy. I was out with the children the other day and I asked the young lady (18) working where we were, where the public telephone was. She looked at me as though I came from a different planet and genuinly didn't know what I was talking about! (what do you mean was her reply) Although, sadly I can't do the event, I can see all the entry links on the right hand side and get to the entry form - and without logging in... Hope you all have a great time at harewood. 1st day of Cowes week tomorrow and I'm working 😔 😔 😔
  23. Here here Rob. If you will - I will, Paul.......... Love to have you back Gill although you and Lyn should dual drive custard with Dai Nelsons class 3 engine!
  24. Almost certainly not for me this year. I've got a couple of sailing gigs coming up and then another in September - all overseas, so I'm in the bad books already 😔. I can almost get away with it as it's paid but the likelyhood of me doing any more car racing this year is pretty slim. There's more time to be had at Curborough and Anglesey David - None of my runs were perfect. Given your class 3 times, some of your corner speeds must be higher?
