  1. 7 second improvement in my Curborough time over 4 years in class 4. I changed the dampers but I reckon the difference is 80% driver / 20% car........
  2. Looks like not enough camber or maybe a bit of understeer (although I'd be surprised if you're understeering into Carousel - I'm normally trying to stop the back overtaking the front with almost no steering input)? I ran 2.5 degrees on the Khumo most places - up to 3.5 degrees at Anglesey. The avon was a degree less respectively. 15mm lower at the front than the back and 65mm under the (dry) sump. Maximum caster and would have liked more, or softer springs. I ended up with the car just on the oversteer side of neutral at most venues. If you trail-brake, you'll loose all of your understeer immediately. Try the camber first.
  3. Would definitely interest me - I need to get out more.... and I miss driving the Caterham. Once again, I'm overseas or working (or both) for virtually every event this year but November is always quiet. My car doesn't fit (unless someone's got a spare superlight engine) but I do have wheels and tyres, a covered trailer and a truck to get something there. (if someone would have me). I can probably just about remember my way around Anglesey too.
  4. Have one here too if the one above doesn't suit.
  5. Whilst I appreciate the MSA's attempts at humour, they missed their original 1b tyre list announcement date ( of April 1st ) by some months.........................................
  6. Well my car was sold with ACB10's and the new superlights are sold with ZZR's and you are saying that I can't run with either which kind of excludes production Caterhams from being competetive? So are we saying there's no point in turning up to race "road legal"unless you have a pre-1990 car or a 2015 or later car??? OE to me means "original equipment" - in other words what was, or is now supplied from the factory. The superlights were ACB10's then CR500 and now ZZR so all of the above are "OE" in may book. Surely if the ZZR is on the list then it is on the list? Is this an MSA thing or otherwise? The ZZR is clearly the tyre of choice for the dry and has a different compound to the new ZZS. Both however are listed as 1B. Radial or cross-ply slicks Simon?
  7. So............ my upgrade list reads - 300bhp, sequential and slicks.... Or ... maybe just some throttle bodies and a set of ZZS ? See how the new year is.
  8. Rob, that's exactly where I see it except class 4 (always the difficult one) 200bhp. This, I think will be inclusive for R300 to R400 and all the other "200bhp" engines already competing. My first reason is that it includes current competitors. I can't believe an R400 actually leaves the factory with all of its 210bhp, so we should allow them specifically! Keeping it at 200bhp means you can't get a KR500 down there without killing the engine so it makes it fair for the bottom end of the class. Personally, I'd be happy running an R300 in class 4, against 200bhp / R400 cars with this limit. Class 5 and 6 makes sense for the time being, although I can see 6 being the class everyone will race in and 5 being for "visitors". 7 - no change, so that's easy. The other reason I like this proposed structure is that it will be easy to develop if / when the tyre regs change again. I can see us in three or four years time with: Road legal - class 1 (basic / grad cars) - class 2 up to 150bhp - class 3 up to 200bhp - class 4 unlimited. Class 5 - mod prod - do what you like. My only other comments would be to specifically exclude the allowed 1B tyres for pre 1990 cars and to reset the records (now not achievable) - except of course the class 7 ones.
  9. I'd be firmly behind Mark's scoring system. It would however be possible in the event of a tie for the overall, to use the old records. Class 1 and 2 are easy as there is not change to the cars or tyres. For 3, 4, 5 and 6 we could use % away from the old records as opposed to % you beat them by. Should be simple enough?
  10. I mean the following constructively: David, I think you'll find that 190bhp versus 262 is not an issue at Lys y Fran or Wiscombe but I agree that anywere "power" biased then clearly the extra helps. 5 and 6 to amalgamate would be sensible. 1C if you must - why not just go to slicks? Can't think of anyone currently in this class without a trailer. Re the power band for class 4: 200 or 210 running on 1B tyres would be fine and likely include more prospective sprinters. In my opinion, anything from 180 to 220 would be fair competition especially considering the reduced grip. It would also mean that many past and current competitors would run their engines tuned properly as opposed to having a flat 190bhp for the last 1500 or so RPM. By the way, I'd be happy to turn up in this class with a sorted out R300 as I think the power will make even less of a difference on the 1B tyres - just look at the current class 3 versus 4 times at various events (40bhp difference) Classes 1 to 3 to remain how they are with 3 to run list 1b. However, given that the last time I drove my car on CR500's I thought I'd bolted my van wheels on, maybe 2 and 3 should just be amalgamated. This would give a very strong class 1 and 2. Class 7 - no restrictions and no restriction on tyre compound because anyone in class 7 is likely to have spent the money already and why would you want to slow the car down? Also, would preclude most people running mod prod in other championships. Finally, I think we should write in our reg's that A24 compound / crossply (except for class 7) is not permitted in the championship, before I turn up in a 1988 car with a set of 24 compound and CR28's when it's raining.
  11. Hi Smiffy I always use Mike at Hamble Tyres 023 80457333 I'm only in Titchfield so Hamble not far. He does one or two other Caterhams I know of so is used to NOT damaging magnesiums or 8 spokes. Tenner a corner should cover it.
  12. You can be driver one for me Simon if you like but I feel you may struggle with having to: Get off the startline without launch, change gear with a clutch, get out of corners without traction control, not to mention having to take your left hand off the wheel a dozen times................ *rofl*
  13. Hi Lyn Just curious - what's wrong with the Mod Prod class rules and what is not implemented? On the 1B / 1C tyre issue, I would vote for "roadgoing" to be MSA 1B list and the resetting of all of the records. I think half of them should be reset anyway with some events now prohibiting tyre warming, added to the fact that some of the old records were set at circuits where we were allowed to spin the rears as a "one off" (Anglesey 2012 for example). We'll just have to come up with another way of deciding the overall championship.
  14. Yes, can of worms. I don't think anyone would disagree that we should probably wear FHR's. I don't at present and have probably been lucky over the years. I will be wearing in future. Regarding helmets, I have a Bell RS series which was "HANS ready" in 2011 - except it's not quite as "ready" as I thought. It has to go back to manufacturer for the HANS posts, so in fact I may as well purchase the new version of the helmet (with posts already installed) and a FHR device at the same time. The discount I'll get buying as a set makes the new helmet almost the same price as sending my old one back for retro-fit. Regarding Alan's comment RE list 1C tyres and Mod-prod. Unless someone tells me otherwise then if we run 1C tyres in our championship then that would indeed take us out of "road legal" and classes 3 and up will require FHR in the eyes of the MSA. Can anyone shed any light if this is the case? Simon - dampers almost off the car and then I'll head west.........
  15. Never read anything so ridiculous in my life! Has anyone who writes these regulations thought about the implications of these tyre lists? I am assuming that every record in road legal (list 1B) will need to be reset, as the records will now not be achievable? Added to this, tyre warming has been or will be prohibited almost everywhere. On that note, I am assuming that the L7C records have been reset for Gurston? EXCEPT - If you have a car that is pre-1990 you now have an unfair advantage over everyone else. You may as well allow me to fit a supercharger and still count me as 1800cc (not talking about L7C here). You either allow something or you don't in my opinion. I can't see how you can have a fair championship when the rules are different within the same class? So, with the exception perhaps of the L7C for 2016, you now need a pre-1990 car, or you go list 1A (which is frankly dangerous on a higher power car) or you give up road legal and go slicks - but then I'm 100BHP short and don't have a sequential gearbox. This is meant to be fun, affordable club racing. I know I haven't raced this year but this tyre rule change has made me think twice about next. Where am I to compete? Same again but with no hope of getting near records? Change car to pre-1990 (but then that's no fun knowing you have a huge advantage over most)? Upgrade (a lot) and go slicks? Go next level and buy a Force LM or similar? Be interesting to see if this new list is modified in the next few months.
