  1. Aahh... Never been in class 5 so I guess ntr for me in 5. Same car (and engine) though, just + 10 BHP to 200 which kicks me out of 4 and into 5. At least it means rain or shine I get a new PB
  2. Being the "youngster" for the Welsh weekend Alan, I am especially looking forward to the drive from Llandow up to Lys Y Fran. Now that you are towing and not driving your Caterham, perhaps you might keep up this time ................? 😬 45.41 pb Chris from 2012, which probably means a negative EL score.
  3. and of course it could all be rubbish but 20 runs is about a season for most. David, I didn't think you ever made any mistakes just think how fast you could be 😬 😬 😬
  4. The Kumho and ZZR will last a long time The question is, whether they are competetive or not. For me, 20 runs would be about the most I would consider. I run an older set for practice and only use the good set for timed runs if a, I need to and b, if I feel I'm driving well. I reckon there's about 5 tenths difference at somewhere like Curborough - new versus well used rubber. Each to there own though - I've used 3 sets in 4 seasons. I think Shaun and GIll get through at least one set a year.
  5. I have just entered both days so that's 5 in 5
  6. Thanks. Would really quite like to do Epynt. Last time I drove the car was for 200seconds at Gurston last year
  7. I am intending to do this event - both Saturday and Sunday, but will have to be a late entry depending on family circumstance. I'll have a good idea at the beginning of the week (9th) Fingers crossed. McTaff, can you let me know the latest I can enter. Thanks.
  8. Facilities are excellent and plenty camping I am sure (apart from the c4M £ worth of motorhomes in the paddock . Sadly I can't make it this year but you should have a great weekend, rain or shine.
  9. I'm with Simon here - for members benefit... Andy could have borrowed mine if my car wasn't still in storage, or I would have posted - call Simon anyway.. Fine line, but I wouldn't call it commercial advertising. See you all at Curborough (hopefully) *wavey*
  10. Rob I had a quick look at the running orders and thought that it had already been sorted into fastest runner last.......... 😬 😬 😬 😬
  11. Simon, you forgot to mention that it's also about the best sounding K out there! Cracking car - I'd have it tomorrow if I didn't already have the one before.......
  12. Hoping this comes accross the right (constructive) way .................... Richard I don't think that the power difference in class 3 is an advantage one way or another. You and Tom have spent a long time sprinting, have optimised the car in most other ways and are (quite) good at it! I think we all get very hung up on the power thing (me included). Yes, it makes a little difference with big power differences but within classes I don't think it does. David and I will be competing in class 5 this year in class 4 cars - just have to drive faster i guess! For me, partly so I don't have to sit around the paddock discussing how much power at what RPM we all have. I don't think that my 7, yes seven second improvement around Curborough has much to do with the extra 10 BHP I've gained. More driving, less upgrades (I wish I'd known that when I started) See you all soon
  13. The fit is close on the 8spokes, minilites and MB's. Just make sure the weights don't go where they hit the tube. No problem to shift the weights outboard. (realitve to the car that is) - you could put them almost in the middle of the wheel if you wanted - there'd just be rather a lot of them. An inch won't make much of a difference - maybe a gramme or two. Don't use hammer on weights on any alloys - they damage the rim and cause corrosion. I wouldn't have my tyres fitted anywhere that would do such a thing - bad practise. It is still standard practise to use them on steel wheels and they're cheaper. 14. I'd quite like to help at the intro day (if you need me Lyn), stay over for a couple of beers and Kart in the morning........... 😬
  15. Definately up for karting! One condition though - Lyn needs to carry at least 40KG of corrector weights - not that I'm competetive or anything 😬 So we need dry and sunny for the intro and wet on slicks for the karting
  16. Hello Lyn I'm easy either way on whether or not it should be allowed. Personally I don't see the problem, as to me it's more about lessening the abuse given to engine and gearbox rather than an "aid". I am assuming that launch, traction etc are still banned. I have no wish to labour the point but my original post on the other thread was that I didn't think we should be changing rules because the one person who had bothered to fit it was no longer competing. i.e. we shouldn't personalise rules for individual competitors. The original decision to allow flat shift was taken on a vote of all competitors and I saw no reason for the arbitory change. I'd be equally happy if another vote were taken and it was banned. Can't wait for next year........
  17. Hi Matthew February through April is our busiest time of year with the business and even busier for next year with some bi-annual international regattas. I can't volunteer to organise but I will be available to help (barring disasters) on the day and possibly the day before. Let me know what I can do. Best Stuart
  18. Gregs79 That would be the perfect time to run it in! Straight out of the box - drive it hard - just what it needs.
  19. Hi Simon I would but the car is still in storage - havn't seen it since Gurston! (or was is Beaulieu?) I'm sure someone will come to the fore, just the two prettiest ones are tucked up in their trailers.................... 😬 Stu
  20. Simon - 😬 I can see it both ways and am happy to see it your way
  21. Greame Yes, I think it's very important that we stress to new people that it's far more about the driving than the BHP. (If I knew then what I know now!!) Might be good to have the class / event records poster or hand out sheets at the intro day to demonstrate just that point. A quick glance down shows how close the class 3, 4 and 5 (and indeed 6 and 7 in some cases) records are despite there being over 100BHP difference in power. In some cases they are in reverse order! Talking of which, (and mainly referring to classes 4, 5 and perhaps 6) if the course record of a car in a lower class is faster than the classes above, should we not make that time the class record for all "faster" classes too? Just a thought...
  22. Well done Matt and team! My only 2P would be as follows: I thought the rules were written for all competitors? I think banning flat shift in C4 because "Paul forster is no longer competing" is not right and also sends the wrong message. If my memory serves me right, we didn't just allow flatshift because Paul had it at the time - he could easily have turned it off (indeed half the time, he forgot to turn it on 😬). We had a vote on these rule changes and the majority voted to allow this. I'm not sure why it was banned in C5? If class 5 is "ulitmate road going" then I see no reason to ban flat shift. It costs pennies and ultimately helps to preserve our very expensive engines and gearboxes rather than improving performance. To me, this is entirely different to launch and traction which are clear driver aids which is why they are banned. From a personal point of view, if I stay with the H pattern box then I intend to fit flatshift (I have the switch already) for the reason stated above. Looking at the thread, I am not the only one. If we were keeping the rules consistent then we should ban launch and traction from C6 (or allow them in C5) so that the two "ultimate road going" classes were consistent with each other. To me, it makes perfect sense to split the bike / sequential cars from the car / H pattern cars but no sense to have the driver aid rules different from each other. In addition, C6 cars already have flatshift so why not the C5 cars? I'll qualify all this by saying it is just my observation of the rules and none of my comments are aimed at anyone in particular. I don't know which class I'm competing in next year anyway - it'll be 5, 6 or 7 mainly dependant on whether or not I fit a sequential gearbox or have the budget for slicks. All the best and well done again - thankless task writing rules I know, as inevitably there will be someone who doesn't agree. I believe consistency is the key though.
