  1. As soon as you rip the 98 engine out of any of the 25 or so they would become just another bitsa IMHO. Mine made just about 140 on Emeralds rollers on regular unleaded and although another 35 would be nice I'm not sure it would give me that much more enjoyment. On track it seems about r400 pace, which seems a nice place to be, all things considered. The value lies in keeping them reasonably std and in good condition. Steve See My Caterham Fireblade Here.
  2. Something is always worth what someone else is prepared to pay. I like the spec of my one better than this one, but you can't knock it's provenance. It's 'the' one to have for sure. I think the price of good Blades and Blackbirds will become pretty solid as years go by. Lets face it, there were very few of them and so are an interesting development of the marque, dynamically they are brilliant fun to drive, are cheap as chips to run on account of being light on everything and spares for the engines will always be easy to get as the bikes were so popular (complete engines now less than £800 on the bay). I just like the fact that they are still a proper Caterham but are 'different' from all the others Down my way we even seem to have our own club Steve See My Caterham Fireblade Here.
  3. Isn't it like my Blade with a clutch basket/plates and seperate springs? If so you will be able to get uprated springs and plates. What has actually 'failed'? Steve See My Caterham Fireblade Here.
  4. No idea on that product. Have used Armorfend to good effect but it's expensive. Have also used clear sticky back plastic on surfaces with no compound curves which works surprisingly well to stop abrasion chips etc. It's cheap as chips and looks as good as when fitted over 3 years ago. 5. Cheers Shaun, have ordered. Any tips? Steve See My Caterham Fireblade Here.
  6. I want to do a small foam seat to go in a Tillett for my 7 year old, I don't really want to buy a whole kit as it won't take much to make the base. Anyone got any stuff left over for sensible sums? Steve See My Caterham Fireblade Here.
  7. Paul It's common to overfill by an inch according to Tony Thompson (Elan specialists) and I was intending to put an additional filler plug in mine for exactly this purpose. As it was Bruce didn't have the time when he modded the Axle case and nor did I as I was due on a touring holiday in the blade the day after I got it all back togeter! Instead I stuck in another 1/2 litre IIRC via the breather. Has been faultless so far.. Regarding baffles, I looked at these also and decided they were of a better design than the Ital anyway and decided it not worth the effort. The whole unit is so much bigger than the Ital I'd be surprised if you have any problems. See My Caterham Fireblade Here. Edited by - STEVE GILBERT on 14 Mar 2007 20:00:48
  8. Check out the wing on this puppy ebay item 120095124288 I think it looks cool. 🥰 Steve See My Caterham Fireblade Here.
  9. Just check that there is a vent in the tank. Steve See My Caterham Fireblade Here.
  10. What exactly is the 'recurrent fuel problem' and why do you think it is the pump. I have spent a lot of time playing with these type of carbs as has Steve Ellis (aka blade_runner) We may be able to help. Steve See My Caterham Fireblade Here.
  11. What's your e-mail address and I'll send a picture. See My Caterham Fireblade Here.
  12. I have this exact set up on my Ford Axle. The handbrake cable routes over the top of the A frame where the Rose Joint is located (centre of axle) and then under the A frame beneath the Prop flange. HTH Steve See My Caterham Fireblade Here. Edited by - STEVE GILBERT on 11 Feb 2007 18:10:21
  13. Why do you need a narrow one? When I fitted one in my Fireblade I used 1/2 spacers on top of long studs and with the extra width of the disc conversion. This was with 7j rims to get them out to the edge of the arches. Steve See My Caterham Fireblade Here.
  14. Capri or Van? See My Caterham Fireblade Here.
  15. Now there is a sorry story for not checking something before you fit it. I put a dishwasher tablet in my washing machine the other day. I didn't have to go to court over that one though 😳 See My Caterham Fireblade Here. Edited by - STEVE GILBERT on 2 Sep 2006 19:14:02
  16. Nova won't undercut the dogs on a std gearset, I asked them. Extensive googling revealed some shops in the states that will however by the time you have paid postage and taxes you'd be better off with the Quaife set anyway (probably a better solution anyway) As I understand it, perceived wisdom is that grinding the std dogs buggers the surface hardening. That might be bollocks for all I know See My Caterham Fireblade Here.
  17. I intend to look at the flailing chain issue as discussed with Bladerunner. I think that something along the lines of a double width crossflow chain tensioner would be the way to go. It would need some machining to the cases but worth the effort I think. As the car is hardly ever used at the moment it's not a priority, but its on the list along with Head camms, compression, big bore and a CR gear kit. 😬 See My Caterham Fireblade Here.
  18. I'll take it. You have mail. Steve See My Caterham Fireblade Here.
  19. Steve, Just stick in the Escort axle. 3.54:1 is a better ratio for the Blade anyway and with your increased rev limit max speed would be about 125 and much more likely to get there. See My Caterham Fireblade Here.
  20. Yep Usually loads on ebay or Turbosport forums. Steve See My Caterham Fireblade Here.
  21. Have you dented the sump? If so and it increases with engine revs it's probably the crank hitting the sump. Steve See My Caterham Fireblade Here.
  22. My Fireblade V5 has no details whatsoever regarding emissions. How do you know the level it was tested at at the time of SVA? I have no other documentation. I was thinking of 'obtaining' a letter from Honda that says my 98 engine is a 94. Who the hell would ever know the diference? Steve See My Caterham Fireblade Here.
  23. I have a good 1600GT pinto engine here that is free to anyone who wants it. Steve See My Caterham Fireblade Here.
  24. I seem to remember seeing a chassis with extensive steel plate sections welded in around this area and along the tunnel somewhere, I just can't remember where. With the overall design you could just end up shifting the problem along a bit, but it could be worth a go. Steve See My Caterham Fireblade Here.
  25. Absoluely stunning Mike, I really hope you enjoy driving it. Steve See My Caterham Fireblade Here.
