    Steering Rack

Mick, Is this compatible with the rack for a cycle wing car? I thought they were different (the lock is certainaly less on a cycle wing car) and I've heard people having to repalce the rack when converting from flares to cycle? Steve

    Steering Rack

Does anyone have a standard steering rack ('97 Supersport) on offer? Mine seems to have developed a strange metalic clunk Steve
  16. I've just fitted a set of adjustable platforms ('97Supersport with de dion). When Fitting the rears I found the threaded collar which take the platforms comes very close to the de dion tube to the point it was possibly fouling when fully tightened up (mounting is off the threaded boss on the underside of the DD tube). I have overcome this by fitting an extra washer to space out the shock absorber but although there appear to be sufficient thread left on the bolt I'm a little uneasy about it especialy after reading on another thread about a sheared lower shock mounting bolt. The DD tube is also fitted with a plain (unthreaded) boss through the centre of the tube. The only other alternative I could see was to mount the shock using a long HT bolt through the tube but I don't think the increase in height this would cause could be off set by the amount of adjustment left on the platforms. Hope this makes sense!! Any views? Steve

    Front Shock Removal

Guy, Thanks for this - sounds like another case of crap Caterham design! SPW
  18. I'm about to remove the existing front shocks ('97 Supersport) to replace them with another set which have adjustable platforms already fitted. Looking at the top mounting bolt it looks very tight to get a spanner on and when the nut is removed it look like the bolt can't be withdrawn sufficiently to remove the shock without having to bend the bodywork to give clearance - am I missing something or is there an easy way around this? Help Please

My car has suddenly developed pronounced a metallic "clink" from the front nearside when cornering. It seems to be from the trackrod area but I can't see anything obvious with either the rack or front suspension joints and no evidence of any play - it can also be heard sometimes when moving the steering from side to side while stationary (i'ts not always there and seems to be more apparent when the car has been on a run and everything is warmed up) and generally shows itself in about the same position on left hand lock. It is quite loud and disinctive and certainally gives the impression of being metalic and all not being well! I'm leaning towards it possibly being from the rack but can't be sure. Has anyone any ideas or similar experiences? Thanks in advance. Steve
  21. I'm just about to replace tyres for a set of Yoko 48's and was looking at fitting a set of flush fit tyre valves at the same time (Demon Tweeks p329) - Does anyone have any experience of them? In particular do they present any problems when checking pressures etc. Regarding tyre sizes, I'm looking at 185-60-14" on the front and 195-60-14" on the rear (1.6K Standard Supersport). In the absence of the search facility does this sound a suitable combination for general road/occassional track day use or would 185's all round be better? I note there is approx 10mm difference in diameter between the 185 and 195's but hope this wouldn't create any problems. Steve 🤔

    Bedding in pads

Jase, Without sounding too thick what are the symptoms of glazed pads? I fitted Green Stuff pads a while ago and spent some time bedding them in but they have never really seemed to provide the imrovement I was hoping for, particulary solving the problem of rears locking prematurely. How did you go about de-glazing them? SPW
