  12. I've a 5 litre container of Comma X-Stream Red (concentrate) which I used half of about two years ago. Does anyone know whether this stuff has a shelf life or should it still be OK to use? Considering it's suposed to be good for 5 years in use I would have though it should be OK. Steve

    Elise HGF?

Not exactly 7 related but hopefully the combined expertise of the forum on K series engines can help. My brother has an Elise 111R (2003, 18,000 miles, Full service history at main dealer) which a few months ago started to loose a small amount of coolant - the level dropping from maximum to minimum in the header tank in about a week (~100 miles). Car returned to Lotus main dealer still under warranty and they identified a loose coolant hose resulting in a small leak (!!) which they rectified and as an assurance carried out a gas test and pressure test to confirm HG OK. Problem persisted so back to dealers and they then come up with a damaged coolant hose with small leak which needed replacing (initially claiming it required removal of the clamshell to change) - after 6 week wait for hose to arrive it was recently replaced (not covered by warranty!) at a cost of £200!! Lo and behold he called me last night to say still loosing coolant and not a happy bunny. The car is now outside warranty period but he has verbal assurance from the previous episodes that any HG problems will still be covered!! He's now obviously concerned that this could be early signs of HG failure, although in all other respects the car is running well. Anyone have any views on whether this is likely to be early stages of a HG going or other possible areas to look at - unfortunately he's not particulary mechanically minded so is rather dependant on the dealer but I get the feeling he's being fobbed off. Steve

  21. Manxseven, Yes, I'm using wheel nuts rather than bolts. Wheel are 13" Minators. EFA - Thanks I'll have a chat to Caterham about bearing carrier. The only doubt is I'm pretty sure there wasn't any play when I last checked the car over - I assume a tolerance issue with the bearing carrier would have been evident from day one? Steve
  22. Manxseven, No, good point but I'm using studs as per standard hub. Steve
  23. I posted recently about play in the rear o/S wheel of my Superlight (2000) and have since replaced the bearings in the offending wheel. Unfortunately this hasn't made any difference and there is still a small amount of play (I'd guess at 1/2 to 1mm at the rim). There was nothing obviously wrong when I changed the bearings e.g. loose fitting in the bearing carriers (either on the old bearings or the new ones) and they have been torqued up corerectly to 200 lb/ft so I'm at a loss to explain. Has anyone got any thoughts on what may be the cause? Thanks Steve
  24. Mark, I like the wheels - what type/make are they and who supplies them? Steve

    Play in Rear Wheel

Fitted new bearing kit tonight and I still have the same amount of play in the wheel I'd estimate about 1/2 to 1mm play at the rim. Everything seemed OK during the fitting so i'm at a loss as to what the problem could be - any ideas? Could it be tolerance problems with the bearing carrier as EFA suggested? One of the bearings was a lot easier to fit into the carrier than the other but it was by no means loose. Steve
