Thanks for the replies. I've ordered a bearing kit today and will have a go over the weekend - the play is only probally a mm or so at the rim but there is none on the other wheel so for peace of mind it's better to be on the safe side!! Steve

Thanks Steve. Is a small amount of play likely to be a safety issue i.e. replace immediately and don't drive the car? Steve

I've just been giving the car a check over before a track day next week and found some slight play in the nearside rear wheel (offside seems fine). Car is a 2000 Superlight. I'm assuming it's just a matter of checking the torque on the hub to take up the play in the taper bearing, but checking the manual it quotes 200 lb/ft (41mm socket). Is this correct and is re-torquing likely to solve the problem? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks Steve

I'm getting a strong smell of petrol from the rear of the car particulary when pushing on through the corners. No signs of any leaks from the filler cap but looking under the car there looks like evidence of petrol having leaked down the side of the tank in several places ☹️. Next step is to strip out the floor in the boot to check for leaks - I'm guessing it could be from the breather. Has anyone had anything similar or any ideas on likely cause? Thanks Steve

Thanks Steve. Have checked UJ at rack and the connection at top of steering column but not the nut on the rack. I'll check this tonight! Steve

My car has suddenly developed a "clunk" when I rock the steering from side to side while stationary. I've checked that all the obvious connections on the steering column are tight and there is no evidence of any wear in trackrods etc. There is however a slight back and forward movement (no more than about a millimeter) of the complete steering column which coincides with the clunk - this movement shows itself at the rack output spline and at the business end in the cockpit (QR wheel - 2000 Superlight). Any ideas on what the problem could be? Steve

Maybe a stupid question but short of checking against a GPS system what is the easiest way to check speedo accuracy? Working out theoretical speed using tyre rolling circumference and diff/gear ratios and relating it back to no of revs in a particular gear seems one way but that assumes the rev counter is accurate in the first place. Steve
