  1. After 25 years, it’s time to take out my k-series engine for the first time. Does anyone have an engine crane somewhere near Maidenhead that I can borrow. I’ve checked the loan register, but there don’t seem to be any nearby. thanks Simon
  2. Here's some precious suggestions from Google search Simon
  3. Hi Richard, I've probably got something suitable I can dig out later if you're still looking. Your friend may need to check with Emerald that his K3 is suitable - my 2nd hand one had to go back to be modded. Simon
  4. Rimmer Bros claim to do a genuine part for about £80 definitely check the connector to the lambda sensor though as well as for exhaust leaks simon

    Li Ion batteries

Has there been any discussion here about charging LiFePO4 batteries at low temperatures and driving your car at temperatures below 0C? When I've looked at LiFePO4 batteries for my campervan, they are usually specced to -20C for discharge, but the lower limit is 0C for charging. If it has an integrated BMS (battery management system), then this may be set to prevent charging below 0C to protect the battery , but if you drive your car, then the battery's just discharging. If the BMS doesn't prevent charge below 0C, then you risk damaging your battery. Simon
  6. It's really easy to damage the electrical sender - it's very low and exposed- I damaged 2 by going over the anti-exit plates on the way into the company carpark before I realised what was causing the issue. caterham used to sell a remote mount kit - to place it on the cross member - don't know if they still do. 7. The MOT inspection manual changed on 11 Jan 2021. The change in the Headlamp compliance section is :- 4.1.4 Headlamps - Compliance with requirements - Changed sentence from 'Existing halogen headlamp units should not be converted to be used with HID bulbs. If such a conversion has been done, you must fail the headlamp.' to 'Existing halogen headlamp units should not be converted to be used with high intensity discharge (HID) or light emitting diode (LED) bulbs. If such a conversion has been done, you must fail the headlamp.' Simon
  8. Leave the heater valve open all the time when filling and running - Ive not seen an airlock at that end - (especially with a bleed tee) Is the bottom hose from radiator getting hot? if not, then either an airlock or thermostat is not opening ( rather than a fan problem) i don't think fan will come on unless there's flow of hot coolant through the radiator and that won't happen until thermostat opens and bottom hose is hot. ( if you search the archives, another long term solution is to drill a small hole in the thermostat, so it is permanently passing a small amount of coolant through radiator and helps with airlock removal. The downside is it can overcool in cold weather) Simon
  9. Why would 1 &3 fit differently to 2&4 - surely the fit is going to be the same on all? (I've an EU2 , so don't understand the subtleties of EU3) Simon
  10. What length of hose do I need to replace everything on a 1999 K-series? - Still on its original hose Simon

  14. according to their website, powerlite also do a multi-drilled bracket version - the RAC4320MS. I guess you've bought the RAC430 with the fixed bracket Simon
  15. something strange going on If I search for "Rover" I get results back, I I search for "spring" , I get no results Simon
  16. From the manual If a narrow band sensor is wired to the dedicated input ECU pin 7 the Sensor type setting in the main map should be set to ‘Simple O2 sensor’. When set this way the ECU will read the signal from pin 7, rescale it to 0-5v by multiplying by 5 and then convert to AFR using the voltage-AFR conversion table. The voltage-AFR conversion table is part of the ECU configuration and can be accessed via the menu ‘ECU configuration | AFR Lambda input’. Note: when set to ‘Simple O2 sensor’ the ECU will only look at pin 7 to read the lambda signal, the Input source setting in the AFR/Lambda input configuration screen is ignored. Also, if a narrow band sensor is connected to another spare analogue input (e.g. AuxIn10) then you must set the Sensor type to ‘Wideband+controller, AFR’ and configure the voltage-AFR conversion table to suit the 0-1v input range. So it looks correct - depending on how the car's actually wired up Simon
  17. Hi Jonathan Any more progress since I asked a year ago! Simon
  18. Maybe that's why you're a doctor and not an engineer JK! This is a case where 'just add lightness' doesn't apply. Instead its more of ' An Engineer can do for a dollar what any fool can do for two' ( attributed to Arthur Wellington - US railway engineer) Simon
  19. Emerald will sell you Easy-sync USB to Serial AdapterSKU:01-007from here regards Simon
