  1. Thanks both Ian, tyres I was looking at are A021r's in 185x60R14 so would be available, probably from Polleys, I know they won't be as good as CR500's, but they should be okay as an all rounder Jason, Thanks for the offer, give me a shout when your kit arrives, would certainly like to try one underneath the current wings The other reason for the thoughts are apart from slightly higher ride height (to offset lowered floors), better cruising engine revs (albeit slightly), are that I just don't think my car looks that good with anthracite wheels, much better with silver ones. I even toyed / am toying with getting the anthracites sprayed silver Sorry, I'll get my coat now............. Rik Roadsport SV 1.6 Sigma 150 in Viper Blue here
  2. Sitting bored in a french hotel room, my mind has started wandering over things to do over the winter........... Currently have 195x45xR15 CR500's, look awfully close to the cycle wing Don't know what stays I have, I was assuming 15" / 16" ones but then never safe to assume. Question is :- Are the 15"/16" the "biggest" stays in terms of what you can fit underneath them or are the 13"/14" stays larger ?? I assume the 13" race stays are the smallest Same sort of question for the cycle wings, which one will accomodate the larger wheel ?? Vague thoughts of bailing out of 15" and going to 14" as my focus is moving towards road touring. TIA Rik Roadsport SV 1.6 Sigma 150 in Viper Blue here
  3. CaterBram, Thanks for that, it clears up the IVA issue and ties in the revision date of the IVA manual with the Primo acrticle BUT...... is there a similar revision in the MOT testers Manual ?? Rik Roadsport SV 1.6 Sigma 150 in Viper Blue here
  4. Doing some searching and found this thread, so apologies for resurrecting an old one. My Sigma 150 has just been through its first MOT, big sticking point was harnesses. Tester wasn't happy that my Willans 3" 4 point harness did not have a BS mark, Kitemark or E mark on them at all. I mentioned that the FIA standard was in excess of the standard required, but the current MOT manual does not say this and there would seem to be no official VOSA amendment that covers this. I had heard the same, that Primo had successfully challenged it, but can find no 3rd party corroboration of this. In the end he passed them, but only as they were in date ??? which I thought were for race purposes only ?? But I would like to know the VOSA reference if anyone has it. I know I could probably have found a more caterham friendly MOT centre and it probably wouldn't have been as issue, but this was convenient. TIA Rik Roadsport SV 1.6 Sigma 150 in Viper Blue here
  5. I have lowered floors and leather seats in an SV My handle just goes over the top of the cross member, you may have to bend it. Unwary passengers have to be warned not to catch a finger between the handle and the crossmember Alternatively, bend it down and mine would go through one of the holes in the Floor support angle (rivetted to cross member) Don't think I have lost any adjustment Rik Roadsport SV 1.6 Sigma 150 in Viper Blue here Edited by - Windy Corner on 30 Aug 2010 19:25:44
  6. Excerpt from a well known Tuner :- "To get 200 horsepower out of a 1.6 Sigma you will be looking to rev the engine to nearly 8500 so steel rods and competition pistons will be required. Also running a standard oil pump will not be sufficient at this rpm, pump rotors may break and there maybe oil supply issues. Taking into consideration that your engine is in good condition it would require the following components to up-rate it; · Dry sump kit · Steel con-rods · Lightweight flywheel and clutch assembly · Competition pistons and rings · Camshaft kit · Hi-flow injectors · ECU and loom modification · Ported cylinder head with oversize valves As well as the above it will require gasket set, consumables, labour and dyno testing. The price to carry out this work is £8000.00 + vat. In addition you may require a new exhaust and you will require a dry sump oil tank and associated hose work. To supply you a 2.0 litre Duratec with flywheel, clutch, ECU, loom, fuel pressure regulator, low-line sump, starter motor and alternator, you would be looking at the following prices; 180 horse power £5499.99 205 horse power £6229.99 225 horse power £8025.00 You would need a new bell housing and new exhaust and possibly the hole in the side of the car modifying to suit the new exhaust" Rik Roadsport SV 1.6 Sigma 150 in Viper Blue here
  7. Nick, Almost exactly as you describe, fouled plugs, wouldn't idle, ran very roughly, would misfire to the point it was undriveable. Coaxed it up to CCM and soon diagnosed as Lambda via the ECU. Not that you needed the lappy to diagnose, it, Nick was almost spot on as he heard it kangaroo up the drive at CCM............ £230 notes later............ Martyn, I am assuming you will be going through their insurance ?? My rear end was sorted out by CCM, they stripped it, the chassis went to Steel Fabs, reskinned & Painted locally. CCM then reassembled. The 3rd party insurer admitted liability, sent their engineer round who agreed that it was a "specialist" reapir & CCM invoiced their insurance direct Shouldn't need to go through your own insurer, if they have admitted liability. 12. My understanding was that the breather has a one way valve that lets air in, to replace fuel but doesn't let air out. This is why you get a whoosh of air being expelled by the tank. There was a Caterham modification to the breather system to include this, if you do a search on here, it should come up. When I fill mine up the size of whoosh depends on how empty the tank is. the emptier it is the bigger the whoosh, and I have always thought it was the higher external temperature than in my garage so the air expands. causing a pressure buildup Rik Roadsport SV 1.6 Sigma 150 in Viper Blue here
  13. Well Done Tim, Would be good to see you all at the weekend, if I have my car back by then.......... Rik Roadsport SV 1.6 Sigma 150 in Viper Blue here
  14. Pete, If you only move the pedals, the pedals will move towards the top of the pedal box making it hard to get your foot on. You will need to adjust the threaded rods and may even need to trim them down a bit to get the pedals somewhere close. Rik Roadsport SV 1.6 Sigma 150 in Viper Blue here
  15. Bobt, Having recently been rear shunted, I am glad it was there. The ali honeycomb helped resist the movement of the rear chassis ladder into the fuel tank, which probably meant the difference between carrying on with Wightblat or retiring home on a low loader. If you cut it so you get a LH & RH half I wouldn't have though you would have reduced the structure as long as it was still self tapped in like mine was. My 2007 already came with the filler neck cut out, so perhaps all the newer ones now are. I do like the idea of leaving a smaller end around the filler permanently though. 16. When I tested mine it was 95-96 dB(A) @ 1m, 45 deg, @ 4500 rpm. With the Sigma 150, mapping is everything, a bad (or even not quite so good) map will cause all you are experiencing and more. The latest map requires the MAP sensor to be disconnected from the manifold, i.e. record ambient pressure. Caterham will update the map remotely (send the ecu back) and talk you through the process, but if you can get your car there, I would, as it involves recalibrating the TPS. There was a long thread of mine that contained lots of good contributions on the mapping of the Sigma 150. Search for "Sigma 150 Quirk" Your idle should be steady (900-1000 rpm) and go through 3 distinct phases on startup. details are in the above thread Regards Rik Roadsport SV 1.6 Sigma 150 in Viper Blue here
  17. Once the mapping was sorted out on my Sigma 150, it doesn't pop and bang much at all, even on over-run. It used to be quite bad. Rik

  22. Green, yellow with aluminium wings (?) briefly spotted turning off the A50 towards Bruntingthorpe. Closely followed by a silver Elise / Exige at about 7.45pm this evening. I was in the V50 waiting at the junction, and got told off for trying to catch up, some hope 😬 Rik
  23. Spotted twice by MIL (well trained) in Kibworth, Leicestershire Bright Green **10 AEN Once on the 23rd March in Kibworth about 11.15 ish and again parked up on a driveway today. Wonder if it lives there, will have to see if its there when I am over on Sunday. Rik
  24. Geoff, Could you put me down for a September Cadwell place please, Form will be in the post tonight. Thanks Rik
  25. I refitted the channels when Bruce put my lowered floors in. Not because of the strength issue, but more as a sacrificial element, i.e. when it did bottom out in Wales last year, it was the channels the hit and not the floor !!!! Rik Roadsport SV 1.6 Sigma 150 in Viper Blue here
