  1. John / Norman Thanks for the replies. I think I will try the local engineering shop again with a view to - If it doesn't work I have not lost anything If that fails then I will have to shell out the £70 ☹️ Richard
  2. The speedo on my car stopped working and I identified the fault as the ‘take off’ from the gearbox which had shaken it’s self loose and the ‘circlip’ no longer held it in place. The car is 1989 X / Flow with a 5 speed box ‘Type 9’. I attempted to re-fit the connection using ‘point nose’ pliers as I do not have a pair of internal circlip pliers. The clip went almost into position but needed a little bit of ‘persuasion’ just to slip home into the recess groove. Pulling back the carpet over the transmission tunnel I found a convenient hole and proceeded to use the end of a screwdriver and ‘light’ hammer to drift it home. BUT The flange of the ‘take off’ which appears to have been ‘braised’ in place popped apart!!! I thought of having the ‘washer’ braised back in place but the engineering shop I contacted said the heat from the process would probably bu@@er the workings. The unit is stamped VDO and I have tried my local ‘well stocked’ independent parts shop and the local FORD dealers but neither can tell me where I can obtain a replacement. Before I contact Caterham can anyone point me in the direction of someone who might stock this item, or is this likely to be an item that only Caterham will be able to supply. On the up side my limmited milleage insurance is looking healthy 😬 Richard
  3. Spotted on the A12 (between Romford - Chadwell Heath) travelling into London this AM at about 6.15. I guess it's nice to take the se7en into work on a day like this. Richard
  4. Unclefester, I know who has a 'Standard L/A bar for sale. As I bought it by mistake and returned it only a month ago. contact me if interested. Richard.
  5. I have been there also. The 'hop' on a standard Live Axel car is vertical but a long cockpit Live Axel 'hop' has a slight slant in the vertical plane. i.e the top of the 'hop' is forward of the bottom mounting point by about 6cm. Brownie - I have an early DD car and am looking for an FIA bar. I will send a blatmail to you if it is still available ! Cheers Richard
  6. David It must be something to do with the earting. I had a problem with my gauge reading half full but no fuel in the tank ? (1989 X/flow) I solved the problem by removing the sender unit, and cleaning up the contacts for the live an earth wires. While the unit was out of the tank with the 'live' wires connected and the ignition on I found I could make the needle swop from full to empty by earting the body of the send to earth. I can only assume you have a bad earth connection. Best of luck Richard
  7. New Cat - That sounds like a good deal. I went what I thought was the 'safe' route and picked up diff oil from Caterham 1 Ltr of 'standard' Caterham / Comma EP 90 diff oil about £6 and a tube of the addertive £10 I only did this because when I went to my local 'good' motor parts shop and told them the chassis plate on my car say's HD 95 / 140 and they did not have this exact ratio. NB I noticed on the addretive tube that the company was formed 1991 and my car is 1989. Things have obviously moved on ! Richard

    Diff oil

I just checked the level of the diff on my car. (1989 Long cockpit Dedion) I jacked up the rear drivers side wheel and this allows the Dedion tube to be below the line of the drain plug when accessed from the boot area. I should add that the vintage of my car means that I have 'half' a boot cover and the petrol tank is completly visable !!! and it is possible to squeeze my arm into the gap between the boot half and the tank. I don't know how difficult it is to take the boot floor out of a latter car. But that just progress for you ? good luck Richard 😬
  9. Hi - 'Lionel r' has a bar to fit a 'standard' cockpit LA. I am returning it to him as i bought it believing it would fit my car? I have a Dedion and 'long cockpit. You will need to be sure of the type you require Richard
  10. Bryn, I will take them off your hands if they are the 'standard' gel coat red When you say condition OK does that just mean the usual 'star cracks'. Or are they worse than that. Will call you. Richard
  11. Phil I have an early Dedion car (1989 long cocckpit) with the suspension protruding through the turrets similar to your's. However this has the flat 'square section cross member. Also the 'hole' in the base plate at the narrow point (furthest away from the roll bar) appears to line up with a hole in the cross member for seat belt harness ! When I was looking for an FIA bar I was told I needed a Live Axel / Early Dedion type. From the look of things you appear to have this type of roll bar I don't know if the one you have will fit 🤔 On the up side I am still looking if you ever need to 'pass it on' 😳 Richard
  12. Rob Hi I will take the Luke harness Have sent blatmail Richard
  13. I would also be interested in knowing whether chrome plating would effect the integrity of the roll bar. Would a chrome plated bar still meet FIA reg's 🤔 Richard I know the petty strut needs to be fitted etc.............

    Carb balancer

And another from me Easy to use and the bonus for me is that Superformance are only 30mins away so I could drop in and pick it up. The guys who run the Co. realy know their stuff when it comes to engines in Dino's Richard
  15. Rik - If Graham does not have them I would like second 'dibs' as my son is about to try his han at boarding. Only problem is I am in Essex If it helps please give me a quick call so that I 'know the score'. Q. When you say Adult boots and bindings size 12/13 would they fit some with size 8 uk feet ? Richard 01277 822407 YHM
  16. Scott, As Jorgen said triy the spark first. Take the spark plug out and re conect it to the HT lead and place in on the top of the rocer cover. This will act as the earth and when you crank the engine over you should see a 'fat blue spark'. try each plug in turn but rember not to drain the batery. Good luck Richard
  17. 'Cheep as Chips' 79p from your local Tesco Extra Super market ...........or......... Wikinsons. At this price you can cut about and experiment. Richard
  18. Strongy, As Regin said I was unable to sort out my finances so I had to pass. Not because it dosoen't fit. From what I have been able to gather the bar should fit your car as mine is also an 89 DeDion and providing the rear suspention struts protrude through you should be OK. Regin - Sorry I had to let this one go. I hope you complete on the sale. Richard
  19. RJ - Have sent you email with home tel no. for when you are in UK YES just off the A12 /M25 so meeting should not be a problem. Just need to clear purchase with 'her who holds the purse strings' Contact you soon Richard Edit - Good to speak to you - Just off to find a tape measure !!!
  20. RJ - I am confused by your description i.e. 'for live axel or early DeDion car'. I thought they were different in location design. I am looking for an FIAI bar for my car which is a Long cockpit DeDion 1988 / 1989. I can't be specific about the year as it is kit built on a 'Q' plate. The chaassis is KLD 1127R which I guess stands for kit / long cockpit / DeDion. The rear suspention mounts protude through the top of the suspension turrets. Will the FIA Bar you have fit ? Location Brentwood near M25 Richard K
  21. Don't move it - This is the "traditional' location Richard
  22. 🤔 The book 'Legend of the Lotus Seven' by Dennis Ortenbruger describes the Gallagher's as purchasing a series 3 in 1968. If you have a copy it's on page 146. Also their are 3 pictures of the car that clearly show it to be left hand drive. Confused Richard
  23. Horizontal - Is this the Silerstone that was recently for sale at CC South. If it is i'm v.envious. Such a good looking car !! When I saw it the engine was described as a 'Red Top' does this mean anything ! or is it just CC's way of identifying it has a few more tweeks on the inside. If you do consider going on the track you might want to think about a GRP nose as the Ali one will be very costly to replace / repair. I know you will enjoy the car Have fun Richard (Old 1700 x/f with Vulcan 145bhp) and flares 😬
  24. Looking at my distributor the leads go like this Cylinder no. 1 at fromt i.e closest to pully Looking face on to the distributor no.1 is top left Working round in clockwise direction... top right no.3 bottom right no.4 bottom left no.2 Hope this helps 🤔 Richard 1700 X/Flow
  25. Sorry to 'highjack' but I was just about to consider attacking the rust spots on my 89 frame and had thought of using Hamerite mat black ! Is this a 'no no' or will this be acceptable. Q. what is the advantage of Por115 over other products such as Hamerite? Richard
