  1. I had the double throttle cable kit and it's possible that your cables get caught up under the carbs if it's not adjusted correctly. Check your throttle cables aren't just holding the butterflies open because of this. Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs
  2. The tappety sound is air in the oil. You need an apollo tank which lets the oil rest for a bit and the air floats out if it whilst it rests, ah, how nice! You won't get brake fade unless you're a real hooligan. Before you go check your pds have some meat on them and ensure your wheelnuts are at the correct torque. Do this after the day too. Take a pressure gauage and footpump with you and pump your tyres slightly harder then normal (say 22 psi on 185/60s). Check your oil level is ok. Check you water level is ok. Check all your levels. Try super unleaded for extra safety if you feel cautious some engine builders recommend it for the track. get your wheelbearings checked before going on the track and get them adjusted if needed. Take it a bit easy on your first outing. If it's fr, go B&B the night before - you'll be knackered at the end of the next day. Take a spare and go in convoy if possible. Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs

    A510s PSI?

sory to say, but I went for 50s originally because they were list 1a. I don't thinkn I'l ever stop regetting it now. Just gone to 021Rs and they're so much better it's untrue. Just a shame I spent so long finding out really. Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs

    A510s PSI?

That's what I've run to date. No wear issues - maainly because they just don't seem to wear. I'll be changing shortly for 021r's. they seemed to want alot of pressure on the track though (30 odd psi). Are there other opinions on this? Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs
  10. Your clonks during changes could be down to something loose - have you checkd thast your gearbox is bolted to the brace under the tunnel? Is your ngine bolted to the chassis - sounds silly but numerous people I know have forgooten at some time or other myself being one. Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs
  11. I it reasonable to run 021rs on the road and change over to ACB10s for the track - I thought ACB0s required different setups than radials. Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs

  14. I have used both James btween M4 and M40 off the M25 and Chris Wheeler (near A10). Both have been brilliant. I think that redline are ok and they're by Caterham (the town). depending on your inclination you can also consult the local club (Hants ()north and Berks). email me offlist for the contact details and we can help to a degree. 16. I didn't hve good exprience with Ledas and have reverted to Bilstein. My critiscism relates to comfort not handling. On the track they were far better, on the bumpy roads around my house they were not good. they are indeed much heavier than the bilstein and take a 2.25 inch spring Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs
  17. Does sound like your dampers topping out. Not sure what the solution is - is your ride height set at about 155 mm from the bottom of the rear wheelarch? Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs
  18. Once you've got the floorboards up you can access the fuel tank straps. It is possible to drop the tank out though the floor if you haven't fitted the crash kit, but it's a bit scray that all that fuels knocking about when you do it. Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs
  19. I'd run a mile if the car doesn't still look brand new! I reckon that most people who look after their 7s love them to bits. then there's the chap who just runs it into the ground. Look for evidence of love. E.g. waxoyl everywhere, few stone chips. Low evidence of rust around the headlamp supports, polished exhaust etc. As people have said there appear to be plenty of cars out there. I have to say that when I've been to aterham they sem to charge an awful lot of money for some ropey looking cars. Also - get long to your local meeting. you'll find someone there who'l look a car over for you (for a pint maybe). If you're local try Hants North and Berks on the last Thursdayof the month Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs Edited by - millsn on 10 Mar 2002 23:42:13

    Powder Coating

Zinc phosphate is a goldy yellow colour. A zinc coat would show as grey under the paint of a car (typical hatchbacks and roadcars). It's been a while, but I recall that the zinc phospate is used to provide a good key to the stel surface. I don't think it provides any sacrifical benefit. What it probably does do is reduce the surface energy under the paint. I had my front suspension bits zinc phosphated and then undercoated, then painted with matt underbonnet paint (black) and its still looking fantastic. I aoided powder coat as it doesn't tend to be too resilient (stone chips). Under bonnet paint has been designed to be resilient to chipping. My coating + shotblasting was was done by a company somewhere near Swindon (further south down the M4 if I recall). It's not cheap to get done if you only have a few bits to do as you get charged all the setup whether 2 or 7 bits. I got a local bodyshop to do the painting. Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs Edited by - millsn on 10 Mar 2002 23:35:24
  21. It sound to me like your idle jets are set too rich. It is likely that your professional rejet set them this way to compensate for the (assumption) poor progression that you enerally get with 45s on a zetec. After a while the plugs coat up (sooty) and give you poor running (most running is done on the idles - the mains are raely used). Idles don't normally go out but carb balance can do quite frequently. Also possible is that the carbs are pulling in air from somewhere - I assume you can't find any evience of this around the seals to the manifold? One last thing - I had this problem and it was my exhaust which had cracked at the flanges where it attaches to the 'head. Just check you don't have this too. Unlikely but it might be your plugs - are they the correct type and are they gapped correctly? The ECU only looks at throttle opening and rpm and adjusts timing accordingly. It is possible to reset the ECU for the throttle stroke I assume you cannot have done this by mistake and anyway the Dunnell ECU should learn its way out of this. Last thing I'd check is that your battery is ok.

  25. not sure if I really have a problem here. However when running for ages I sometimes get a misfire that fels electrical. I'll try 5w /30 on my next oil change. Is the Shell version the only one? Where do you get it? Nigel Mills - 2.0 Zetec carbs
