  1. I have a "friend" with a Westfield fitted with a 2L Vaux XE engine. It is claimed to be producing 185 on Weber 45s. To start with it just needs setting up ballance carbs check timing kind of thing but he is looking to get closer to 220+ bhp in the near future, does anyone know of any tuners who have a good reputation up there. 🤔 Cheers Nick
  2. Dibs on the Seats please 😬 YGM Nick
  3. ***Place Available*** does not look like I will get my car ready in time so am offering my place to anyone in a better position to take advantage. I dont know the politics of the reserve list etc so will mail Geoff P and hope for an answer soon, but I realise time is short so an expression of interest here may be usefull. Cheers Nick
  4. All finishes, paint or powdercoat etc should stop at the machined faces. I was not doing a full strip of the diff so I sprayed the laquer when it was bolted together . N
  5. Agree with J&J that a drill and brush can get a really good finish, I used a "bristles out the end" type brush wiped it down with white spirit and then sprayed a can of clear laquer on it. It stayed pretty nice for several years Nick
  6. I remember spending ages getting my A-frame cleanish with a wire brush and drill and hammeriting it. I was persuaded by a friend to take it along to a tame fabricator who put it in his blast cabinet. I was amazed what a single pass of shotblast would do, there was no trace of rust or my Hammerite, just a clean matt finish. But if you cant get them to come to you then you are a bit stuffed. I guess you just remove the all the components you can from the shell and get them done elsewhere , mechanically clean the flat bits of the shell, the little gaps and holes can be done with rust removal liquid/gel/foam stuff. 7. That trigger wheel is the same as my 1992 😳 Alpha install. The double top tooth (teeth?) is used to indicate TDC (as opposed to the missing tooth of more modern wheels). If you have more of the kit then you will probably have the mount that uses the timing chain cover holes as mounts ( described before). If you do this will put the trigger over the timing marks cast in the engine block. About 30deg BTDC The only remaining variable is how the trigger wheel is oriented on the crank. I cant remember weather the double top is at TDC when cylinder1 is at TDC or the double top is pointing at the trigger. Most systems are able to accomodate an offset so you dont have to re-mount your sensor if you drill the disc a bit wrong, after all if you get the sensor 1 degree out the ecu will be mapped with a degree more or less advance. Unless you are trying to match an existing install to use the same map which is a bit of a risk as it appears you dont know some crucial details. I would contact whoever is going to do the mapping (Southern Carbs?- your choice is limited) should be able to find out from your ecu number that it is capable of using an offset sensor. Nick
  8. But the Zetec runs over 5 bar doesn't it N
  9. Dibs subject to photos please. Photos to nickpcallen - at - gmail.com Cheers Nick

    Test

an actual test also - sorry - carry on embedding images, if you were wondering Edited by - Doh!Nut on 7 Mar 2008 14:03:45
  11. I am pretty sure that my 4to1 with an early 4inch can was 2 inch. The 6inch Techcraft can I put on was 2.25inch inlet. The 7 workshop cut off the 2" outlet of the collector and had a jig that allowed the new 2.25inch pipe to be welded to the collector at a slight angle to allow the can to sit correctly against the body. A nicer solution then having an adaptor with kinks and stepdowns and stepups of diameter. N
  12. If the MOT emissions are tested at idle and fast idle there is not need for a rolling road, only some thing to test the emissions (and laptop / cables / knowledge). it does beg the question how far out the rest of the map is though I suspect the rest of the map is the right shape just shifted up to be "safely rich" or timing a "bit retarded" N
  13. If EU regs specified this then Mazeratti and Jaguar etc with LED lights would be illegal as they produce unfiltered red light. Anyway a red filament bulb is a white bulb with the filter painted on the bulb. But as with anything EU I expect someone to point to an expensive peice of legislation that defies common sense disproving this. Nick
  14. From Polley site A021 185/60 R13 558mm diameter = 1752mm circ A021 205-60 R13 578mm diameter = 1815mm circ ie the circumference of the big tyre is 3.5% larger than the smaller one. To get a bit more perspective on that, if the bigger tyre started with 7mm of tread and wore down to 2mm tread, the circumference drops to 1783mm ie the change is insignificant compared to the accuracy of the speedo. 15. The laws of junk state quite clearly that junk will fill the space provided. You are simply delaying the problem till next year when you will be posting about having finished filling the garage asking weather you can move the car out of the car port. 😔
  16. A red lens is a filter, it lets through red spectrum light and blocks the blues and greens. "White" leds have a high output in the blue range and are very weak in the red range thus there will be very little red light getting through, far better to have a nominally lower output red LED where 100% of the light gets through. Remember also that the 5mm LEd is very directional, putting most of their light out the end, they are also mounted sideways in our application ie shinning sideways. Not a great recipe Nick
  17. My understanding is that, for example, one fog light is enough for MOT but if you have a pair fittted they must both work, which does lead to the situation where if you remove the non working one you pass N
  18. I must have a good set-up, I know I have a larger radiator and the header tank arrangement, mine runs at just under 80 degrees, rock solid, in traffic it slowly rises to 90 when the fan cuts in. and thats it So it is possible to get a x-flow to run with around 150 hp cooled on the road with no drama - I have not however thrashed it round a track in the height of summer. [/Touch Wood]
  19. Is the fan connected the right way? It is possible to connect my similar age fan up to blow air the wrong way. not that I have ever done that of cource You could try some radiator flush (basically an acid) to try to remove some corrosion from the water ways in the head. It could be that there is insufficient presusure in the system. my expansion tank cap was not seating with enough force to maintain pressure as tabs holding it in place had bent over time, tweaking them allowed it to maintain pressure such that several hours after using the car there was a distinct release of air releasing the cap. If all else fails the water pump is one the front of the engine held on by three bolts 😬
  20. Hi Eric I have a X-Flow with Weber throttle bodies and think it is a good conversion, but to be honest I havnt driven a carbed x-flow enough to compare. You can keep the tank but you will need to add a swirl pot and high pressure pump etc. Dave walker carbs v injection Nick
  21. Hi Mark I have a tillet copy carbon fibre drivers seat (made by Trtion) I also have a lowback pre-preg carbon passenger seat. (Carbon component company (Arnies old company). Both are in good used condition - ie some surface scratching on the base but still look good. Nick
  22. car builder solutions also do one here That does not show the pins very well, but is cheaper! Edited by - Doh!Nut on 16 Oct 2007 18:13:38
  23. I am sure Adrian Flux did my re-build insurance for £70
