  1. Hi Angus, The first one should work fine, I had to bin my first (cheap and nasty) one that I picked up for £2, second attempt was an Ednet one that works well. If its reasonable quality and you load the drivers you should be fine Duratec SV, built in Dubai
  2. I think it is only on the Focus, my us supplied 2.3 Ranger based engine did not have one Duratec SV, built in Dubai
  3. Way cool Duratec build video here Duratec SV, built in Dubai
  4. Hi Richard, Had a pleasant couple of hours in the garage with the new (beta version) SV tunnel top. Fitted really well out of the box, just a little trimming of the rear section (as anticipated). Details and pictures will follow Duratec SV, built in Dubai

  7. I have to say, i can probably win the Duratec abuse stakes. My new 2.3 was built by me (previously only 2-storkes, total 4-stroke virgin) mapped by me (again a 1st) on the road at revs up to 7700 and driven by me on several trackdays. I have the soft cut rev limiter set to 7700 and the hard cut to 7900. I rev it to the limit on a regular basis. The car is run on a F1 standard track on slicks, with ambient temperatures usually around 40, occasionally above 50 and track temps of 60+ are not unheard of. And did I mention the phuqing sand 😬 So far (touch wood) the engine has been totally fine, temperatures are a wee bit higher than I would like (water 100, oil 105) but nothing a bigger radiator or oil cooler won't fix. Time will tell how long it lasts, for me half the fun was building it, so if it has any problems, it will be time for another upgrade Duratec SV, built in Dubai
  8. I was looking at it more from a physics point of view (and I am not really qualified to do more than guess). I would imagine for the same revs, with a longer stroke, will you not have higher piston speeds and load put on the crank and bearings. Also the cam chain is longer and I know there is a issue with the tensioner needing a mod for the 2.3 to do higher revs. Obviously top end wear will be the same regardless of stroke. Scuttle design???

aaaah, always the last bastion of a lack of imagination, picking on physical attributes (truth still hurts tho 😬 😬) Duratec SV, built in Dubai
  10. I might add that ANY Duratec feels torquey, even a plain vanilla 226bhp 2.0. I was very happy with that engine, I just wanted to build a bigger one, because I could.... For me it all comes down to price, if I could find a good cheap 2.0, I would go the route AMMO is planning for his, the 2.0 advantages of a little less weight and height are just a little bonus. However if you can get a 2.3 for the same money, then its obvious to go for the cubes. As to wear, I would argue (and AMMO is much better qualified to comment) that the extra revs of a racier 2.0 would be offset by the wear done by the extra piston speed of a 2.3. Not to mention the longer run of the camchain on a 2.3. Swings and roundabouts, whichever it is, I am sure you will be happy. I agree with AMMO, decide on your spec at the start and stick to it. Unless of course you like working on your own engine..... Duratec SV, built in Dubai

  13. Tricky one, I bought a Raceline 226bhp Duratec for my SV chassis. I was very happy with that engine, however I bought a 2.3 block from the USA for $800 and with parts from Raceline turned it into a 260bhp torquey beast. Both engines are great, 226bhp is plenty, I just wanted more. I built my car originally for 23K including shipping to Dubai, but no VAT. If I was doing it again I reckon I could with a little care build a 2.3 with 260bhp for the same. Raceline will happily supply you with another ECU, you don't have to have the Weber. Spec your car carefully, with the right parts and you can build a great car for a lot less money than a R400. However the factory R400 will always have a better resale value. Details of my build adventure and spec below. Duratec SV, built in Dubai

Ok, well first off NO NEED TO SHOUT How about a few more details. What spec is the engine, cams, compression etc What ECU are you using Have you the right sized injectors for your performance needs Has the car been dialled in on a Dyno Duratec SV, built in Dubai
  16. Hi Stu, I wrote up a page on mapping my Emerald using the LC-1 and using Chris' Goods program. Have a look here Duratec SV, built in Dubai
  17. Tony, love your dash design, might just have to flatter you by copying it I want to do a fairly minamilist and simple set up as I rarely drive the car at night, so it doesn't have to be that clever. As the VWC switches are only 2 way, would this mix work? 1 E733 (green) for Headlights off/on (to dip) 1 E734 (red) for Headlights, Full beam 1 E731 (amber) for Hazzards I thought about using one of these here either side of the steering wheel for indicators, any idea if this would work? 18. My pig iron case failed on a syncro box with "gentle" clutch and relatively slow changes. Must have been down to all that Duratec torque. New alloy case was fitted by Brian, I got my Qaiffe case from Raceline as their online catalogue said £325, here so I asked for that price and got it, they even got it delivered to BGH to save me an extra trip *thumbup* Duratec SV, built in Dubai

  20. No worries. Brent I managed to sell my Weber through Raceline, just haven't got the money from them yet 😬 Duratec SV, built in Dubai
  21. ECU & Loom for Weber' if I am not mistaken, I am sure they could do it without if you were going to supply your own ECU & loom for TB's Duratec SV, built in Dubai
  22. Mike, Racelines website hasn't changed in a couple of years. I had a look at one of the black-top Zetec's at their premises a couple of weeks ago and when told the price, I was well impressed how cheap it was. Can't remember what it was. Duratec SV, built in Dubai
  23. Would go nicely on one of those new cheap Zetecs Raceline are flogging, bet they have a map for it as well Duratec SV, built in Dubai
