  1. Just try fitting the OLD inlet cam and see if it spins freely, if it does measure the diameter of the journals and compare with the new cam, if all looks good the end float could be too tight. John
  2. Only tighten the wishbone bolts when the car is on the ground with the suspension loaded. The bolt clamps the inner part of the bush only and the wishbone rotates up and down during operation stretching the rubber between the inner and outer parts. John
  3. Which way is t he bolt positioned, bolt head at the back or front. Can you get a long bar and drift the bolt out. 🤔

Hi Chris Have set up some of the Penn cars with Nitron shocks. Glad to help so give me a ring. John
  5. Do you remember if the fuel cut off switch was connected before ? Should have a plug with cable connected at the bottom. John

    Sigma 125 Timing belt

Hi Steve Thanks for your reply but it's the timing belt that drive the cams. John

    Sigma 125 Timing belt

I have a VX, but asking for a fellow club member. Suspect that both the crank and cam pulleys are not keyed ☹️ Is the Sima engine from a Focus? How do you lock the crank and do you require special locking tools/ John
  9. Has anyone changed their Sima timing belt yet 🤔 Is it a Ford Fiesta part and do you need to replace tensioners or water pump at the same time 🤔 Is there anythng to watch out for any special tools required 🤔 John
  10. Try Reline or even Arch who make them....Or try the Aero section wishbones as used on the R500 😬 😬
  11. Hi Chris The dampers just unbolt without compressing the springs, then unbolt and remove the upper and lower wishbones. Caterham supply new wider wishbones and a spacer bush to go between the lower part of the upright and lower wishbone. You do not need a spring compressor to fit the Nitrons, and Nitron suggest 225 front and 140 rear. John
  12. Could out of balance throttles and incorrect TPS setting cause this problem 🤔 John
  13. Nick Did you change your hoses recently 🤔 Does the temperature behave the same as before 🤔 Did yur bottom hose stay cool before 🤔 If your temperature is normal and the fan cuts in and out I would think all is ok. John
  14. Sounds like the dreaded air lock problem...or a thermostat that will not open ☹️
  15. Hi Martin The breather tube could be redirected into a breather tank and the injectors are held to the fuel rail by flat spring clips and sealed to the head by 'O' rings The injectors can be pulled free once the fuel has been removed....That's the way my VX works. John
  16. Caterham supplied 13x8 inch rears are ET+24, hope this helps.
  17. When up to temperature and the thermostat open, the bottom hose should be hot...nearly as hot as the top hose when checked at idle. To remove air locks run the car with the expansion cap off and the top bleed screw on the rad loose or removed so you can check the rad is full, with the front of the car raised very high. John
  18. Another one please Richard....See you at the Herts meet
  19. Could be the engagement of the starter pinion gear to the flywheel is too tight. Slightly slacken the three bolts holding the stater to the block and turn over on the starter a few times and the retighten and try again. John

Sounds like its a sticking or faulty idle control valve...

    Starting issues

Adam, are you running throttle bodies or a the standard plenum with a idle control valve 🤔 John
  22. I run the SBD 225 kit on taper throttle bodies and have always had a slight 'clacking ' noise from the induction at idle that can be stopped by resting your finger on normaly number one butterfly. This was not the case when running the throttle kit on a standard engine with standard cams. The noise can be reduced or altered by changing the airflow to each throttle although when balanced the clacking comes back. The car was mapped by the two Steves with no problems and has now done about 7500 miles. I have also noticed this clacking noise from a tuned Duratec. I suspect the noise is pulsing in the induction that also causes the butterfly to vibrate . Hope this helps....Try also talking to SBD. John John

    Rolling road advice

A rolling road session will stress the engine to the max for a short period of time, why not put a cap on the max RPM for safety .

    Oil in exhaust

Does it use any oil on a run when warm....Could be a worn valve stem seal leaking oil past the exhaust valves when not in use. This would cause smoke on start up and after a period at idle. Do the plugs look oily 🤔
  25. Great news Ben *wink* I Have seen problems with this plug before......Also the plug pins can corrode and cause poor / intermittent contacts as they can wet and oily. John
