  1. Hi Tim The Emerald does have a facility for a shift light. You can set your own rev limit. Regards John
  2. Passed the MOT today Compression test results. No 1 265 psi No 2 260 psi No 3 275 psi No 4 265 psi Are these values ok 🤔 Oil looked quite black Plugs light brown Catch tank empty Level in oil tank dropped 25mm (100 mile drive) I assume the nrext step will be to remove the head & have a look ☹️
  3. Hi John Thanks for the reply. I only notice the smoke when I floor the throttle. I was running 74 deg C stat when the engine had a wet sump, because it was getting very hot. I have now fitted an 82 deg C stat & lagged the Brise tank with insulation. The oil & water temps show a contsant 80 deg C on the gauge. Before lagging the tank the oil temp was between 40 & 60 deg C. I have a Scholar block with the Pace D/S system. I will check the Emerald to see what the setting is. The 7 is in for a service & MOT on Monday, so I will get them to do a pressure test. I will also have a good look at the oil and the spark plugs. Thanks once again Regards John
  4. I have been trawling through the archives and have come to the following conclusions. 1. The smoke was grey so, I assume the engine is burning oil. . 2. It may be glazed bores, as I ran the engine in with semi-synthetic oil for 500miles then changed to fully synthetic 😳 3. Bore wash? I ran the engine with a 74 deg thermostat on the road and I am wondering if the Emerald was over fuelling because it was not up to temperature 4. I have read that Omega had problems with oil control rings, can anyone advise when this was? Would a compression test reveal glazed bores, or problems with the oil control rings? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you John
  5. I have a Brise D/S tank fitted in front of the engine, with two breather pipes. One connected to a catch tank and the other connected to the engine cover. I fill the tank upto the baffle level, but I am loosing oil? I have a DVA K05 kit fitted with Omega forged pistons. The ECU was mapped by Emerald before the forged pistons were fitted. I have noticed some smoke under hard acceleration. Any ideas 🤔 Thank you John
  6. I bought the new seal from Caterham and it is different to the old one. The old one just fell out , but the new one needed to drifted in to place. John
  7. I have just noticed that the front felt seal is hanging out of the bearing (1999 K Series) & I can see into the bearing case. Can I just replace the felt seal, or will I need to replace the complete front set? Thank you John
  8. Hi Johnty I have my tank mounted offset to the right as I have a Bernard Scouse air box. I have the two oil returns on the left hand side. I asume I can fit the Laminova to the top hose of the radiator & then buy two new hoses from Think Auto, connect one to the Laminova , and the return back to the tank. Can you advise which size Laminova you are running. I have looked on the Demon Theives web site & found a product called reflect-a-cool. Is this the correct tank lagging? Thank you for your help John
  9. I have the Pace dry sump sytem with the Brise oil tank sitting at the front of the engine. I have concerns about my oil running to cool over the winter months. I looks possible to fit a temporary aluminium panel in the front of the engine bay to shield the tank from the cooling air. Has anyone done this 🤔 What is the ideal running temperature for the oil 🤔 Thank you John
  10. Hi Johnty Thank you for the reply. I am using the kidney shaped tank in the front of the engine & switch beteen the two for the temperature readings . The gauge is inacurate as the water temperature is 10 deg c out according the Emerald. The Emerald does not measure the oil temperature, so I assume it is also 10 deg c out. I will change the stat and lag the tank to see if this helps. Thanks again John
  11. Hi Jonnty Thanks for the info. Checked the temp with the laptop today fan kicks in at 95 deg c, gauge shows 85 deg c. is the 82 deg stat available from Caterham? What material do you use to lag the tank? I will need to buy a thermometer to check the oil temperature. Regards John
  12. I have a 1.8 k series with the DVA K05 kit fitted Pace dry sump, with oil tank mouted at the front of the engine. The thermostat is a 74 deg c, as fitted to the R500. The fan kicks in at an indicated 85deg C, so I asume the gauge is reading a bit low. The car runs between 60 to 70deg c on the gauge & the oil between 40 to 60 deg c. Is this running too cool 🤔 If so I assume changing the stat or laging the oil tank will help. will running too cool damage the engine? Thank you
  13. My starter motor has developed the dreaded K Series click. I would like to strip the solenoid down & give it a good clean. Does anynone know where I can download a drawing show how it all goes together. 🤔 Thank you John
  14. Hi Dave I had the same problem with my scholar K series. Oily's fix solved the problem
  15. This has now been sold. Thank you
  16. On behalf of a friend - this car has just been put on Pistonheads I'm the 2nd owner from new. Built by Classic Carraige Co and purchased by me when a year old from Millwood in Gloucester. Since then I've improved the car and used it for Sunday blasts and 3 or 4 trackdays a year. Dry Sump (SBD) Vaux 2L 16v XE Engine on webbers Tillet Race seats and harnesses Momo quick release wheel Ford rear axle fitted with Quaife LSD and ARB Caterham replaceable aeroscreen and half doors Full windscreen, doors & weather gear retained Raceco titanium silencer ( £500 - 96db @4500 static) 5 minilite wheels with AO32r's Set of 5 Weller wheels also available The rear panel is damaged due to a nudge from behind whilst stationary. Most of this is behind the spare (see photos taken this week). Other than that it's as expected for year. This is a great car offering a lot of power for the money (est 165bhp) from an engine running well within it's potential. Sadly I've decided to sell as I've not used it since the birth of my son. MOT booked for 31.05 and will be sorted, tax to Nov 08. Please call me for further details or to arrange a viewing. No test pilots or silly offers please. £9250 ono If interested please contact Gary Ball directly - 07793 669866
