    R888R v NS2R

Just changed my A021's to Nankang NS-2R's on 14" rims. I have not pushed them very hard yet, but they seem a lot quieter than the 21's. Initial feelings are promising as I have run 21's for nearly 20 years.
  2. From memory, when DVA fitted my Omega forged piston he machined out around 1cm3 from the piston crown to reduce the compression ratio. May be worth a call to DVA.
  3. My k Series 1999 came with a 3.92 diff, the Superlights at that time came with a 3.62 diff. Forgot to add, 80mph in mine is around 5,000 rpm. 14” wheels with 185/60 tyres.
  4. Opie Oils for G30, changed mine today.
  5. Goo afternoon all Just replaced my front felt seal, but I cannot find the torque setting for the brake callipers in the build manual. Does anyone have the torque setting? Many thanks John
  6. Caterham appear to be out of stock.
  7. Having read the old thread the number of failures seems far to high for there not to be a recall. Obviously, Caterham feel profit is far more important than human lives. This appears to be quite typical of modern companies who are purely profit driven. For example, VW were quite happy to poison us all with false emissions. My 7 is 19 years old therefore I think I will be changing mine.
  8. I use this one http://www.cargister.com/calculator-gear-ratio
  9. Received my new ones today for a 1999 K-series and noticed that the off-set was different. If I had fitted them they would of fouled the windscreen frame. I phoned Caterham and apparently I need the shorter arms too. Looks like they are held in position by a spring, another job for the weekend. John
  10. Hi Tom I have the 14" wheels too. Loved the A21's, will probably give the NS2R's a try. John
  11. Hi Tom Are you using the harder compound NS-2R's ? My A021's are getting worn out and I was thinking of trying the NS-2R's. John
  12. Fitted the new one today, still had to relieve the hole with a file.
  13. I have spoken to Tony at Caterham, and he stated that they have the same issue at the factory. He has sent me another u/j with one end drilled out to 9mm. He also stated that this still might need to be drilled another step before fitting to the rack. Great customer service from Tony at Caterham
  14. Hi Scott That was my thought too. Thanks John
  15. No problem with the bolt when it is not fitted to the rack. It slides on very easily on to the rack splines therefore it would appear that the notch is not big enough for the bolt; this would push the bolt to one side.
  16. Hi Jonathan the joint fits on the rack without any problem. The bolt goes through the hole on one side but not the other. It passes through the recess, but I cannot get it through the other side. John
  17. Hi all I have just received a replacement steering universal joint for my 1999 K-Series 7. Unfortunately, I cannot fit the lower bolt which connects it to the rack, the upper bolt fits with no problem to the steering column. I have tried reversing the u/j, but still have the same problem. It would appear that I will need to file out the hole to get the bolt to fit. Has anyone else had this problem and if so how have they overcome this. Many thanks
  18. Hi Dave Treadwear 120 or 180?
  19. Looked at the Nankang NS-2R, they look to be a better tyre for wet conditions. They are also available in two different compounds. I assume the harder compound would be better for mainly road use. By the way, Yokohama A048R's are road legal.
  20. I was going to try the Toyo R888R when my Yokohama AO 21's wear out. Red Cat 7, how do you find them?
  21. Hi Jonathan I have checked my devices an they are 5 volt. Surprisingly, my phone adaptors vary between 1 & 2.5 amp and my sat nav is 1.5 amp. Furthermore, I know nothing about electrics therefore will it be ok to plug a 1.5 amp device in to a 2.5 amp USB socket? Regards John
  22. Mine's a 1999 K-Series, no cover over the fuse box. I do have a spare space to add a 5 amp fuse. Just need to decide where to locate the socket. John
  23. Hi Jonathan I was thinking of fitting a socket with two 5v USB connections to power my sat nav and for charging mobile phones. John
