  1. Rain gets in through the centre vent in the bonnet over the heater intake. Just lift the bonnet and place a plastic bag over the heater intake. But be sure to leave a little of the bag showing on the outside to remind you it's there when you next drive off.
  2. Can't help with a welder I'm afraid as I'm down South, but I've just had the same problem repaired on my car. The metal on the end of the silencer is extremely thin and will need to be TIG welded to make a proper job of the repair. Also don't forget to get a small support welded onto the lower part of silencer and exit pipe. This should go from the lower edge of the silencer rim to underneath the exit pipe. This should prevent it fracturing again.
  3. Make sure both carbs are drawing in the same amount of air by balancing with the throttle stops. If you have not got a suitable gauge, a reasonable job can be achieved by using a length of tubing held to the ear and into each choke in turn and adjusting the stop screws to get an even hiss. Once this is achieved, fine tune the idle with the air control screws.
  4. CIP 32 cfpm with 200lt tank and single phase electrics. Excellant condition about 3yrs old. £400 (Located in Warlingham Surrey)
  5. Walk away from Windows you know you can. You don't need it now 😬
  6. My 1999 Supersport has the older type of carbon front wings and in my opinion they look much better than the newer high gloss type. I keep mine looking good by the occasional use of Simonize Back To black. This works very well and gives a nice sheen. How I wishI could find a pair of rear wings to match them.
  7. What was the real reason for Caterham to change the DDT damper mounting then ???
  8. Following on from my previous post, I have now decided to replace my dampers with Protechs and also replace the springs. I know this subject has been done to death but I have a few questions I need answers to. 1. If both are available, is it preferable to use the through tube mounting rather than the under Dedion tube damper mounting. 2. How do you calculate the correct spring length for the damper chosen. 3. Would you use 2.25 or 1.9 diameter springs. 4. What spring rate would be recommended for a 1.8 Supersport road use only. Many thanks guys and I hope you can offer some advice John A
  9. Went on a Morgan Factory visit last week and took this photo. Looking at the relationship between the upper wishbone and the track rod, they don't seem to be much out of parallel to me. https://picasaweb.google.com/115521198178448675572 Hope it assists the experts. Cheers John A
  10. This is almost certainly a bad earth on one or other of the rear light clusters. When you brake the extra power required by the brake lights will show up any weakness in the earth circuit and the current will take the path of least resistance to earth. In your case via the lighting circuit. You can get the same problems with the indicator circuit too and then you get flashing side lights etc. Run a new earth from the rear light clusters and this should clear the problem.
  11. Thanks Lee that would be great
  12. Thanks for your comments guys. The car ride height is currently 130mm front and 152mm rear with 65mm under the sump unloaded. So it is obviously quite a bit lower when I get my sylph like frame on board. On reflection, I agree with the thoughts that moving the lower rear damper fixing from below to the middle of the de-dion tube would be quite an excessive change. So looks like adjustable seats would be the best answer. Thanks
  13. has anyone got a pair of rear adjustable spring seats for standard Bilsteins they don't want anymore. Many thanks
  14. My 1999 Supersport sits very close to the ground and is really too low for road use. As the front wishbones are also far from paralel to the ground, I want to adjust the suspension settings. This is easily done on the front as the dampers have adjustable seats, but on the back there are none. My question is, are there differing length rear dampers and if not, is it permissible to move the de-dion mounting from the 'under tube' mount to the 'through tube' mount? this would lift the rear and give me a starting point to set up the suspension. Thanks all you experts out there
  15. As AO48R's are currently £85 from Polley, I can't let the 4mm ones go for less than £45 each.
  16. John Alston

    AO48R's

    2 x AO48R 185/60/14 These have done 1000 light road miles only - Full 4mm tread 3 x AO48R 185/60/14 These are just coming to the wear bars - 2 to 2.5 mm tread £125
  17. Yes it probably would. But from my experience with inboard discs on both a Lotus Esprit and a Cobra replica, they will be a pain in the arse as they just get far too hot and are almost impossible to get cooling air to.
  18. Another thumbs up for the Holux 245. Following a previous thread on this subject I purchased one and must say its a bargain. Does just what it says on the tin and is very reliable. I even use it in my coat pocket whilst walking and it still tracks the satellites ok. The included software merges seamlessly with Google maps and give good tracking with the ability to interrogate any point of the route in detail giving speed altitude and co-ordinants. Only downside if it can be called this is, as with all GPS units, it will not measure speed instantly, but needs a few seconds to stabilise. Thoroughly recommended.
  19. Not something really simple like the chuck torque clutch on its lowest setting?
  20. Had the same problem with mine . It seems the rear straps are too long from the TEE to the velcro (FIA Bar). I just rolled the TEE up the strap a couple of turns and used a couple of zip ties in a cross formation to stop it unrolling. Job done
  21. John Alston

    No gears

Had the complete gear lever housing come loose on 2 cars I've owed. It throws up all sorts of weird gear selection problems. Only needs the 3 securing bolts re-tightened using threadlock to cure the problem
  22. I want a pair of adjustable spring seats for the standard rear bilsteins please. Are there any out there?
  23. Careful how heavy handed you are in getting the pulley off. I have just changed the cam belt on my car and gave the pulley a good yank only to find the cam belt pulley had frozen to the back of it and followed it out Lost all valve timing and had to start valve timing from scratch
