  1. I have used Mobile oils for a number of years initialy Mobile One in a very fragile Turbo Esprit and now Mobile Competition 15/50 in my Cross Flow. Mobile synthetic is lovely stuff and does an excellant protection job on your engine. As for concerns over its high cost, as the majority of sevens do low annual mileage, there is often only one oil/filter change required per year. Small price for peace of mind I say.
  2. The FIA bar should be bolted to the chassis by two bolts inserted verticaly into the main tubes from above the suspension units. (It may be worth removing the top fixings first and then trying to remove the FIA bar just in case the vertical bolts are missing) If they are in place then you will need to remove each suspension unit from within its turret in order to gain access to the vertical bolts. Hope this helps
  3. I replaced an offside rear wing an found the biggest problem was the fixing hole spacing as new wings come undrilled. I made a template from a large sheet of hardboard marking the hole spacing from the existing wing. It was then simple to lay the new wing onto the template and drill holes where marked. Whilst most of the enlarged holes in the aluminium can be dealt with by using large washers, the blind holes are rather more difficult as there is only access from one side. Good luck John A
  4. Michael I too run a Xflow and on expert advice have steered well clear of all Lead Replacement Fuel due to variations in the compounds used by the fuel companies to achieve the same ends. I have used Unleaded Fuel with Castrol Valve Plus (with octane booster) for the past year and have detected no fall off in performance nor any variation in very carefully checked valve clearances. 5. Hi John I re-located the battery on my 93 XFlow dedion to the top of the passenger footwell as per later Caterhams. I got a genuine stainless tray from Redline Components and the battery from a company in Guildford (off a BMW motorbike I think). No probs at all with engine crank speed. John Alston
  6. I had exactly the same fault with my Supersprint. The problem is the idicator circuit uses the Hazard Switch for number of its conections. After lack of use/winter storage etc the switch contacts get dirty and corroded and fail to make proper contact. Remedy - remove Hazard switch - dismantle - clean contacts - apply copious amounts of petroleum Jelly - re-assemble - re-fit -problem cured. John A
  7. I intend to fit a 3D ignition system (Emerald when they eventualy get some available) to my otherwise stand Supersprint and would like to ditch the dizzy. Has anyone experience in this and if so what crank sensors did you use and how were they fitted. Also is it possible to remove the dizzy and plug the hole, or does it do other important things like holding in the oil pump drive. Thanks JohnA
  8. Brian I have two plates in my garage. Give me a ring John Alston
  9. Alex All flamable substances have a volume to air range ABOVE or BELOW which they will NOT ignite. Some gasses like Acetylene have a very wide range and anything between 2.5% to 80% by volume in air will give you a very flamable mixture indeed. However, by comparison petroleum has a very narrow range and requires 1.4% to 7.6% by volume in air to make a flamable mixture. Therefore, with a normaly sealed Seven petrol tank, you will never under normal circumstances, get the petroleum to air mixture existing above the liquid level within the flamable range required. It will allways be far too rich to support combustion. So rest in peace you should never go 'BANG'. John Alston
  10. I too wanted to fit a rev limiter to my crossflow and purchased an Omex Speed System (rev-limiter & gearchange light). From day one it played up and after lengthy discussion with Omex (very helpful guys) they decided my ingition system was not suitable for use with modern day micro electronics. My engine is fitted with a Lucas Constant Energy Ignition System and apparantly this gives all sorts of problems to modern electronic devices. So be warned and check the type of ignition fitted to your engine and get advice from the supplier before you buy a limiter.
  11. If you have got a Ford 5 speed box, the problem could be the nasty little circlip has let the cable come out from the gearbox drive gear. It did on mine twice untill I stretched the circlip to give a more secure fit.
  12. Can I add my support for George Polley as a supplier of Yokahama Tyres. I have just bought five 185/60x13 A021R's from him at £58.00 each including fitting, balancing and VAT. Super value I say and a real nice guy to boot. He can supply any of the Yokahama competition range and will also courier tyres to you if required. 13. I've started to get a rumble type noise from the near-side rear of my car when under very light throttle and between drive and over-run. The cars a Supersprint De-dion and all seems tight and well underneath, any ideas anyone.
  14. I don't know whether this will help!!! The build manual for my 1993 De-dion Supersprint with 15" prisoners gives the following info:- FRONT - 140mm Measured at the forward edge of the floor pan to the ground. REAR - 155mm Measured fron the floor pan just in front of the rear wheel arch to the ground. Tolerance of +/- 10mm but rear MUST be 15mm higher than front. Obviously differing wheel sizes will alter measurements but theses can be re-set if you have adjustable spring seats on your shocks.
  15. Is it mandatory to fit only minilite type wheels to a seven??? I want a second set of wheels as an alternative to my 'Prisoners' and have been offered a set of 13x6 Ford RS four spoke alloys. They look good and have the correct offset (108mm)and stub spacing. Has anyone got experience of using other types of alloys on a seven???
