  1. Glad, you appear unharmed, but if the damage is that severe you may well have received a bad case of whiplash yourself but haven't realised it. If you haven't done so please get yourself down to A&E for a check over now.. A slightly misaligned neck may not hurt now, but I can assure you that in a few years time it can lead to all sort of trouble.
  2. Another word of caution make sure they are well manufactured/ in good condition. I was straining to a rally exhaust to an Escort when I noticed an intermittent clicking noise. It was the jack slow jumping the threads on the screw!
  3. Whilst on the subject is there a "replace by date" for belts.? Obviously one chucks them after any sort of shunt, but what about simple old age. Mine are Caterham 4 points of 1996 vintage.
  4. Please excuse my ignorance....... the lap belt should ideally run below what? I assume that is under the middle aged flabby bit?
  5. A pricey but useful altrenative could be an outdoor spec CarCoon. That way you could drive it on the good days and have storage in a drying air stream on the occasional British damp days.
  6. Try your local glazier, he should have the polish you need, or possible a furniture restoration shop.
  7. I would have thought the Jaguar Owners Club is aa first stop. Also look at the Ads in Motorsport mag, they have a strong Jag following.......Looks like an expensive rebuild
  8. If you are goin for tiles, then provided your current surface is reasonably level, you shpuld be able to tile directly on top of it it without need for a skim coat. Go to the Wicks site, they are pretty good when it comes to floors
  9. Re wine bottle: are we talking Bordeau, Burgundy or Champagne? Or up here in Scottish land Buckfast?
  10. I top up my live axle via the breather hole using a 150mm syringe and a piece of plastic tubing. Both cadged from my friendly vet.
  11. The RedLine article in Low Flying recommends wedging the clutch pedal down with a piece of wood. OK, one end goes on the pedal face, but where does the other go? Bottom dashboard hoop?
  12. I have an S3 with no beather pipe. I insert a 12" length of garden hose beside the nozzle, to act as an air vent. This works well in removing the back prressure which slows/stops delivery.
  13. Just south of Dumfries, on a flatbed. Severe understeer damage, but cockpit looked OK. Road car not a racer. Heading to Arch?
  14. I noted today that the tapered rubber bushes on the leading arms of my bottom wishbones have perished. Question: can I replace these without having to remove both wishbone/chassis bolts? Car: 1996 S3 Xflow
  15. Thanks guys, my wallet is feeling much less doom ladened.... think I shall go out for blat to perfect that gear change...ooops!
  16. I fluffed a gear change and buzzed my std 1700X to an indicated 7500 yesterday. (Caterham rev counter probably over reading?) Every thing seems alright and still working as it was. Are there any visual checks I should make- for broken valve springs etc? Or just light another candle in thanks to St Makepiece, the patron saint of bodgers?
  17. Hi guys I'm curious/interested, how far did you get with this project?
  18. Can anyone please recommend a winter tyre capable of handling 3-4" of snow. For use on SWMBO's Renault Megane Thanks
  19. I second you validationg the the reading on the gauge. My 1700 follows exactly the same pattern excepting that it is at some 10C higher.
  20. An S3? holding up a tractor (!) on the way to Portpatrick? Waved at you from Team Lotus X/F

    Fuel gauge

My I have taken the tank out of my 1996 XF several times and ha d to tip up to drain it. I now find the fuel gauge is under reading by a quarter, i.e, when full it shows 3/4 and when showing empty it still has about 2 gallons left. Any known cures?
  22. My 1996 S3 wipers have three positions- Off, Slow and a Bit Faster. However they also have an intermittent wipe which comes on after the wipers have been switch on/off several times (e.g. in drizzle). The question :- is this a normal function and therefore my switch is faulty by not operating it when required, or is this a result of some electrical glitch?
  23. Have checked and neither of the rods move when throttle depressed. I have taken the jets from the bottom of the chambers out and by manually moving the rods can get fuel to move. So the problem lies inside the casting?
  24. Andy, No fuel is being delivered whne the throttles are opened.
