  1. Dave - That's a great idea - I will borrow that if that's ok! Ta - Ian
  2. I did the same as Mike, my car is pre 06, so doesn't have the spare plugs, so I got the Caterham sub loom. The LED is the Hella unit, from CBS, stuck on with Velcro, and the grey plastic back plate of the unit 'painted' with permanent marker pen in black. Wire feeds along the underside of one of the rear diagonal struts into the boot, stuck on with black insulating tape. Been there over 7 years now, still looks spot on.
  3. https://no.co/products/power/jumpstarters I have a NOCO GB40, excellent bit of kit, very robustly built, started my failing tin top battery 3 times easily on one charge, after the high humidity here in HK killed my battery. It still is at 100% charge after 3 months of storing in the boot of the car, and it's very reassuring that I can jump start the car if needed on my own. For a euro trip I would definitely get one of these. I use CTEK for trickle charging, but these NOCO starters seem to be the top of the tree for battery starters and built as well as you would expect them to be. Cheers Ian
  4. For Sale, SB4S Draft Reducer to fit S3 with standard oval headrests. hardly used. 85 pounds plus postage. Pictures on FB Marketplace. Cheers Ian
  5. Brilliant- yes please - a blog would be very interesting. If this is a discarded chassis does this mean you can't road register it?
  6. Paul, Many thanks - that downward view explains the kink perfectly. I've poured over many S1 pictures and I confess I had not noticed that before. I guess most pictures are from the side and hide it. But I'm very interested in your S1, what's the history? Any more pictures? I'm out in HK at the moment so the Internet is my only outlet for my interest in S1 Sevens!
  7. Thanks all, food for thought there. Paul, I'm not sure what you mean by the 'kink' in the side - can you point me to some pics? I'm aware the radius arms fasten differently on a S1, but I think this would be covered by the rear wings. I'd prefer aluminum wings, but Axmister have stopped doing these, so I'd need a different source, but the grp ones you have are interesting - what would you be looking for these?

    Wire Wheels

If one wished to create a Lotus Seven Series One 'replica' from a much newer car, What would be the approach to fitting wire wheels? I'm aware that the S1 wire wheels are 15x4 48 spoke MGA wheels, but I'm not clear on which hubs are used. I wouldn't want to use bolt on adaptors - as i believe these introduce wider offset. Thoughts? Thanks Ian
  9. Sounds interesting. Any chance of a few pics?
  10. I'm a big fan of the CTEK trickle chargers, I have 3 to keep my cars ready to go when I'm home. The CTEK sense interested me, but once I realized it was bluetooth I was out as my cars are rarely in Bluetooth range of my phone.. A wi-fi one would have been of interest.

    Flat battery

As I work away - my Seven is often not used for months at a time. At first I disconnected the battery when away, but now I use a Ctek 5.0 to trickle and condition it. The battery is the original Banner from 2004 and still starts the car on the first press of the starter. No bad for 12 years! As mentioned earlier - the immobilizer will drain the battery in around 6-7 days. So you need to either disconnect or charge.
  12. Yes, enclosed rear wheels. It was a lovely thing. We were following in a little Porsche and Jaguar convoy and my colleagues didn't understand my joy when I saw the Lotus and we discussed it over the walkie-talkies.
  13. Although not a Seven, I think I can be excused - spotted the lovely alloy bodied Lotus 6 SZ9119, on the moor near Lynton and Porlock Hill.
  14. I changed how the side straps attach to the car completely and did away with the special poppers. I drilled out the top rivet inside the car cabin on the inside - and then replaced it with a standard popper base. Then I replaced the popper on the hood strap with a standard popper top, but backwards. The straps are then almost in the same 'plane' but attached much more firmly. It hasn't come off yet, but if the standard poppers are not up to it, I'll replace with popper studs.

  16. Garth - those brackets look an excellent idea - I am still very puzzled why my 1996 Seven had rock solid side mirrors, and yet my identical 2004 Seven mirrors shake around and are pretty poor. But good on you to work on a solution. However Tom's suggestion of the Riderscan really caught my attention, and after looking at the website I've placed an order - I really like the look of the Riderscan, it certainly seems to work well on a Seven looking at Tom's pictures. Thanks gents!
  17. Hi Shaun, sorry I didn't see your reply until just, Ive posted the table as an externally hosted image. I'll ping you the word doc so you can find out why it won't post natively. Thanks -Ian
  18. Arrrrgggghhh! OK, I have finally managed to post the table, but the post dialog window has some weird bug, I post the link to the photobucket hosted image, press enter, and try to type 'finally''under the table and this is displayed on the screen as ýllanif' - what???? The word is typed BACKWARDS!! and then the image disappears again when I press 'post'. This happens every time I try it. I managed to do it successfully by typing the word 'finally' first, then posting the image. I'm going for a lie down!!
  19. Jonathan, Shaun, Thanks gents - I have just spent 30 minutes pulling what is left of my hair out trying to get this table into a post. I've used paint to create a jpg, successfully uploaded it to the blatchat server, but when I post it I get a 'comment is required' dialog, and it fails. Also the preview shows it to be much smaller than it is on my screen, but as it fails I'm not sure if it will be right sized or not. I'll give up on posting it in the forum and try posting it as a link. Cheers Ian
  20. Oh. Well I carefully built a table in word and I don't really want to copy it cell by cell - what is this? 1978? ;0) ok thanks for suggestions gents, I'll do it as a graphic, I assume pics have to hosted offsite. Thanks Ian
  21. Hi - I can't post a basic word table in the forum, and if I create a table from the posting toolbar, I cannot paste the data in that without it all going into the first cell. Any ideas?
  22. Jonathan, You could try Jeff Fowkes Wheels in Ibstock - a bit nearer, I used to have all my after market wheels and tyres sorted there, but admittely that was years and years ago - as all my recent cars I have kept on their original wheels. He advertises refurbhment as a service. Jeff Fowkes Wheels Ltd., Station Road, Ibstock, Leicestershire, LE67 6JJ. T: (01530) 263111, F: (01530) 262584 http://www.fowkesauto.com/alloy-wheel-refurbishment
  23. And I get a 403 on that link. Weird. Is it cos I in Hong Kong?
