  7. Nick, Get the cap first as by far the cheapest solution to the most common issue. Get your car up on normal domestic wheel ramps at the front and run it, squeezing all hoses when warm with cap off, bleeding screw on rad if applicable, etc. Hope to see you at a club meet soon. 9. John and Jez, I've just had to check back further up this thread on Page 1 and while I thought the suggestion I made in my first post made sense, I am glad that it read "Would that work?", seeing as you've both taken the plunge. 😬 Keep us posted when piccies available, won't you? 10. Caterham Midlands have my VX 2.0 on carbs in for service, MOT, etc. I asked them to check on an oil leak too (as posted on a while back). Having examined the car, they believe now the head gasket is gone/going as there's oil in the expansion bottle. Myself and Mavic 82 (local VX owner and engineer) solved overheating, airlocks and porous hose issues a while back. The car now runs beautifully, loses no water and runs to a nice low temperature with its new drilled 82 degree thermostat Cooling system was holding 15psi pressure when we tested the other day. No water in oil and no mayonnaise anywhere. Caterham drained the system yesterday, hot washed the expansion bottle clean and I believe cleaned out engine and cooling system with the steam washer, re-fitted and re-filled the cooling system before taking it for its MOT. Five miles there, five back and there was apparently oil back in the clean expansion bottle Receipts for my car say it had a headgasket change, head skim and porosity test back in Jan 2005, so hoping there's enough to skim again if necessary. As a non-engineer/mechanic, roughly how much should I expect for labour, gasket kit, head skim, bolts, cam belt, oil, antifreeze, filter, etc, etc . . . Plus an idea of cost for a front crank case oil seal change too? Cheers in anticipation of the POBC Giles -----Beryl the Peril (HPC) Edited by - gileshudson on 21 Aug 2009 16:41:04
  11. AnthonyM, I can solve the suncream in eyes issue for you in one fell swoop with P20. P20 started out medical but is now consumer too. - Alcohol based so dries in 10 seconds. - Apply one hour before sun exposure to allow time to bond to skin. - No need to re-apply at all that day. - Only removes with soap and water It's fab stuff, cos I hate putting on and re-applying suncream. It's a bit pricy, but I tend to only use it for my head, face and neck. Cheers, Giles -----Beryl the Peril (HPC)
  12. Jez, Looking at garage paints online now, it appears that they mostly are hard finish nowadays. I'm getting old obviously, they used to be available in a rubber finish. Such things sort of still exist though, as they use similar things inside some swimming pools on the walls and in flexible roof coating applications. Found this that may do the job, a spray on version of the sort of thing I meant. Cheers, Giles -----Beryl the Peril (HPC)

  19. Richard, From mobilephonecrazy.com . . . "Sim card holder - Put your small sim card into this sim card holder to create the so called arge sim card. Some mobile phones need this adaptor to fit the sim card into If your phone is fairly old it may still use the old credit card sized SIM cards. These (Vodafone branded) credit card sized SIM card blanks will enable you to insert any smaller sized SIM card within it’s cut-out enabling it to be used in your phone. (NB - The smaller SIM card may require selotaping on its rear face once pressed into the blank to secure it properly)." £1.95 Might help if no one has any old ones lying around. 22. I'd be interested in one too. I'd want it to add to the back of my car when I eventually get round to removing the rear wheel carrier and need to cover the resultant wheel holder hole. Bought a new one for the nosecone recently. Couldn't source one anywhere after an extensive search globally, but eventually found a collector on eBay (who'd started collecting all the Caterham badges when young, but was now looking to sell) all still blister wrapped. I won the auction at £32.66 which if that £27 Redline price above was right maybe isn't too bad. Giles Beryl the Peril (HPC)
