    Lsd in a Caterham

If I undestand well, we can put in a std diff a LSD I think we were obliged to change the open diff for an LSD I read that there are some differents diff we can put in caterham is one, AP suretrac and Quaife are others At the limit, a LSD cancels the action of the diff and the oversteer happens but with a possible throttle control At high speed without a LSD, all the power goes off through the spinning inside wheel and a low speed there is no difference between with and without. So there is more traction with. Normally on the road, at average speed the 7 is more agile without LSD In wet condition : without is more secure, with will need some more driving experience but with it the car will be more efficient. Do I make mistakes ?
  2. What would the advantage for road and track use ? more or less understear if only advantages, why Caterham doest not fit the road going cars ?
  3. many thanks for your answer it seems more complicated than I thought eric
  4. why don't you use a 185/60 13 tyre or a 185/70 13" if you need ground clearance My seven comes with 15" and when I decided to buy a 13" set Many club members told me : " you will never come back to 15" and the right place for 15" is on the garage shelves" It made me smile but they were right I sold them since ( as they falled from the shelves ...) eric
  5. is it possible to do the remplacement ?
  6. the good idea is to change your de dion tube by a new one if you have a doubt. In France there is some accident known as the car are old now
  7. caterham Cars does not recommand limited slip diff on a road car !!!! There is a reason why

    tyre under rain

I think the 021 Yoko in wet conditions is a very good tyre for a 7 but it need to be warmed if not, it could be slippery. Yesterday, the Caterham at very low speed under a shower, the 7 had be driven with (a lot of ) eggs under the trottle. Another Caterham with road tyres ( RE 720 ) was easier to drive any experiences ?
  9. for road : less sticky tyre are more fun but you will need another set of tyres for the track
  10. for road and ground clearance 021 YOKO 185/60 13 R888 TOYO FALKEN CR500 if you have adjustable platforms
  11. I amp happy with the A2 In theory from 3000 to 7000 in reality from 2000 to 7000 Ok for me no mods required compared with a 1700 supersprint ( Kent 234 ) my 1600 is more powerful at low rev under 4000 , less power after for me, it is more useable and fun for road and I prefer it but it is only my taste kent 234 requires piston mods
  12. for road you can use 95 in a CSR for trackdays use 98 in a CSR For a crossflow use 98 road and trackdays 98 will avoid pinking in severe use as a trackdays. In all my car I use 98 and I prefer Excellium or V pwer to standard 98 The consumption is less, the performance better eric
  13. sorry to be different I have 032 for track and for me, they are not fun on the road at legal speed many gravels ( in the wing if not in the face) no comfort noise no security when cold or wet when they will be finihed, why don't you use a road tyre as Yoko A539 in 13" I have RE 720 Bridgestone but they are discontinued main advantages your 7 will fly on a soft carpet with light slides you can control with throttle Otherwise you drive a train and it is not fun On the other hand, you can drive secure on the wet but a seven still sty a seven ....
  14. use the 032 and be careful on the wet after 021 or CR 500 avon is the best choice
  15. no ugly in colour in an old fashion engine
  16. exaust valves are in front the exaust port the others are the inlet
  17. very difficult to stop bang from the exaust as I have an A2 cam, under the 3000 rev the engine is not on cam and if it is weak the carbs spit and if it is rich the exaust bang and if the trottle is off, sometimes it is a spit in the carb followed by a bang in the exaust But most of times no spit and no bang So it is the charm of the engine modern engine don't do that, except the race engines ....
  18. Classic model as Ford sprint and supersprint are beginning to increase their prices (except in England ????) as they are accepted in classic races some professionnal are very interested in these models spare parts are remanufactured I will not change an AX even for 2 Zetec as you keep your car original
  19. in France an ax block in 1600 is about 2000 / 3000 £ less in 1700 cc But the prices increase every year for 800 £ it must be completely worn
  20. when you say more fun It is mory grippy (which is not for me more fus as the 7 is like a train) or really more fun with some slides you could try Michelin pilot exalto 185 60 14 Excellent road tyre like my RE 720 Bridgestone I presume I have also 032 Yoko, good on a track but less fun on the road except for the gravels in your face
  21. Hello Most of people try to increase the roadholding, the brakes efficiency... in one word : the security if the car is only used in town or circuit you can do the test for us, you could also try china tyres and told us about the drift ability But if the car must be use on open road, why you don't buy A set of 2 048 and change the 4 when used (as we all do or so ) Next year, if you are a good boy , you could have a new set of 888 All that with your mind in peace Ask the question, mean you doubt and so you cannot do it eric
