  1. Sorry for the delayed response, I have been away with work for a few days. Yes it is a 5 Speed. Steve
  2. I have reluctantly decided to my sell second car. It was registered in 2005 and I am the second owner. Purchased with 12000 miles I have now taken this up to 21500. I have owned the car for two years. The car was built as an Academy Car and Caterham had converted to Roadsport Spec. When purchased this included; Carpeted interior Leather Seats Mats Battery Master Switch Push/Start Button Imobiliser Heated Screen Heater Adjustable Springs/dampers Lowered Drivers Floor Plan Quick Release Steering Wheel 4 Point harnesses Black Pack 13" Wheels & CR500's Since the purchase I have done a couple of bits; Uprated front brakes Carbon Front Wings 5 3/4 Headlamps Windscreen Mounted mirrors The car has been stored in a garaged and used at least once a week I have absolutely loved owning the car and a great place to start. But I need to move onto new projects and the car unfortunately will need to go to fund them. £13750. For pictures please mail me and I will send on a selection. Please only enquire if you have a genuine interest as this is a reluctant sale. Steve Edited by - soworththewait on 31 Aug 2010 20:24:07 Edited by - soworththewait on 9 Sep 2010 15:08:52
  3. Mark, Thanks, providing I can get back from Manchester in time for lunch I will come along. Haven't been for ages! Steve
  4. Hi All, Through your own experiences what is the minimum area you would need to complete a new build? Are there any pros/cons apart from the wait to a long term build? This would potentially be a long term, pay as i go build and would involve some custom finishes, and currently not sure what final spec would be. Doing a project in this way I could imagine bringing its own problems in comparison to getting all the kit in one go, any advise? Steven
  5. Hi, The bulb has gone in my speedo, can any of you advise; can you replace just the bulb or do you need to replace the whole unit? I have removed the unit but don't want to start pulling it apart fully if I'm going to make a mess of it. I don't often use the car in the dark and with the light evenings so no rush to change but it is a bit of niggling issue. Steve
  6. At the moment the plan is early to mid August, we plan on doing a top gear style challenge with a few on public transport and a selection of cars and bikes. Couple of days down due to bike riders, a night in pisa, then a few days of exploring branching out from maybe genoa before a epic 3 or 4 day cruise back. Something we have been meaning to do for a while. I just need to make sure the car is ready for such a trip as well as myself.
  7. Hi, Am planning a trip to Italy and France in the summer with some friends going to incorperate some site seeing along with some much needed driving to some of Europes best roads inc the Stelvio. I know lots of you have pobably done thes kind of trips. Currently I am running 13s CR500s on a 1.6k. I have been told some of the gradients are pretty intense an wondering if I may have a problem with ground clearance, some experienced views required. I have alot of prep for myself before going, apart from extinguisher, change headlight lenses, triangles and hi vis etc, is there any other recommendations for items, things that I should do to the car? A service in the next few weeks and another shortly before the trip. Steve
  8. There is the definitive point over and over again, yes unfortunately it does boil down to the finances available. This is why I was looking at the progressive upgrade route, having said this should I want to get rid of it as you never know what is round the corner (apart from not winning the lottery!), I would want an ease of sale. I did look at the possiblity of changing car last year but found it very difficult to find what I really wanted. Since then I have spent the money I had available on other areas of living, again leading to the idea of a staged progression. Some fantastic input on the wheels and suspension, as this has highlighted the fact I don't really need them at the moment if at all, the car is only ever used on the road. Clearly I need to stop looking at the little bits, get some money together then decide what route to go down as the funds build up again. Thanks for the ideas, gives me some things to think about for now. Steve
  9. Hi all, Am planning to use this year to finally start to upgrade the car progressively. Not quite sure what end result will be as not sure whether long term I will be looking to sell to upgrade to R300 or whether new/tune engine to give the feel of an R300. Any how, first step for the car will be to improve road handling and ensure the car is in the best form possible come engine time, whenever that may come round. It's still in standard 1.6 K Roadsport spec 120bhp. So improvements, a guessing wider rears, wide track at front. Will this be something that I will notice on the road? Would it be a worth while investment in its current form. Also in terms of wide track front, aero coss section wishbones? Alot of extra cash, worthwhile investment or a extra with minimal benifit? Oh, whats the dimension change for the widetrack? I sometimes use routes which have speed humps (not the best idea I know), the car can take them currently, but i am not sure whether an increase in width could effect this as the wheels would I imagine sit differently over the hump after. Currently in terms of my uncertainty of the long term car plan I intend to be using as many items from CC during upgrades, as should I decide to sell I would want to maximise the return for the car, I know they become a bit cagey on non-approved items being used. (I have read a few posts referring to a Supersport R upgrade am I right in thinking this is no longer carried out by caterham?) All thoughts on the above and inputs on other uprades I may benifit from are very much welcome. Steve
  10. I am thinking of purchasing the smaller headlamps, just wondered. On the caterham parts site they refer to the assembly as LHD and RHD, I am assuming that this means left hand drive and right hand drive. Or is it a typo and should be LHS and RHDS? I don't want to order the RHD then to discover that it is only for the one side. Really stupid question I know. But if you don't ask... Steve
  11. Thanks for the additional points. I had a passenger, all be it said I don't think he'll jon me again, we went out later that night and all he did was winge! I have to say apart from the wind in my eyes it was fine! I might add the clunking from the harness was after he had got out! Thanks for the offer of the wind deflectors Puremalt, but I know that I didn't want to use them. I'm going to leave the mirrors on the stanchion but will be doing some DIY to have to keep the mirrors on with the new hole and keep hinges. Have to say the mirrors are much better than the rubbish ones on the doors. Thanks again Steve
  12. Had a feeling this would be the case. Doors back on clearly the way forward then. Maybe when finances allow an aeroscreen will be the longterm solution. Had avoided this as I didn't really want to use a helmet, which although some of you are brave enough to use without wearing one I am not! With regards to the seatbelts, this again something that I had factored in, until I heard some clinking to my left! Thanks for the input. Steve
  13. Hi all, Decided that I wanted to get some better wing mirrors, some that actuallly work when you are moving. So I have installed some SPA GT mirrors to the stantions and for now removed the doors. Something I was unsure of but felt I needed to try. So was shocked by the volume of noise from the wind! Almost deafening. I have worn a OTT hat that covers the ears and helps deal with this, the bigger problem as follows. I require glasses to drive, trouble is wind really gets around the frame into my right eye. I have tried using curved lenses before but they are very disorientating due to the curve, my thoughts are to use contacts with glasses that wrap around, but I am curious as to whether this will work, as obviously the lenses shouldn't dry out which may happen? Anyone with good solutions? or ideas from previous experience. I don't really want to get wind deflectors. Steve
