  1. yes but the 8000 revs are not the absolute target, it is a way to have a safe engine and the mental pleasure to have an engine able to reach high revs or so. Could be prefect if the engine is about 140 /150 HP wit a lot of torque at low revs and good road manners. (smooth slow running and good sound when revving high, an engine with 2 faces )
  2. I think the cam will be the kent 234 or the A2
  3. It is just for fun ! The pleasure to use high rev on a track but occasionally
  4. I already have an ali head, Forged pistons and conrods steel flywheel Duplex chain The question is, do I need a steel crankshaft ?
  5. Today we have in France 2 grade of unleaded : a 95 and a 98 ( for less pinking) The 98 is becoming scarce, in Corsica there is no more ... With a xflow, above 10 : 1 there is a risk with 95 even with a lower advance curve. The solution is the bootle of Octane booster (not to forget in Corsica ) Today, Burton sales only forged pistons for capacity of 1720 but the CR is 12:1 may be 11.5 if the AX block is not reground which is too high from my point of view for a road engine... and for the quality the unleaded available. What you will do, sleeves the block to return to 1600 and use the std pistons with the right CR around 9.4 or modify the 1720 forged pistons to reach around 10 : 1 ?
  6. Is it possible ? What specs needed ?

    15 wheels

More road feeling with the 13". The car is nimbler. A club member told be : the right place for them are on the garage shelves... and when you will try the 13" you will never fit the 15". I remember it makes me laugh, but one day I bought a set with yoko for the track... I sold the 15" 8 years ago ... to clear the shelves The 15" creates some bearing problems when used on the track. Since I bought a second 13" set with Bridgestone RE720 for the road. Best thing is to borrow a set to a friend. You cannot imagine the difference.

    175 60 13 Yoko A539

it seems to be better then to buy a CR500 or a 021 . Yoko 048 far too sticky for an old car

    175 60 13 Yoko A539

I had them previously in 195 50 15 good for every day use. My 7 is a 1989 Sprint so 110 HP . I use 032 for trackdays and Bridgestone RE720 for road use. As my car is old now, so I would like to use a road tyre for trackdays as it will slip more, with more fun and safer for my old chassis
  13. Someone uses this tyre and could advise it ? Could be a cheap alternative and less sticky than a cr500 AVON
  14. too sticky tyres damages the old Caterham . My O32 yoko damaged the cooling fan coil of my 1989 sprint 7 in two parts. They broke the chassis tube of a 2L Vx ... * May be better and more fun with a tyre like CR500, a 021 or a road tyre . But less efficient if you want to race with friends
  15. Why not in 13" A 539 Yoko 175 60 13 is you want some fun at reasonnable speed.
  16. We have found the cause of the oil pressure problem. The conrods had to be changed before the first rebuild. Too much clearance beteween the schells and the conrods. So not enough oil pressure and the engine was dammaged. So I will certainely use new forged pistons and H conrods with a new crankshaft and keep this engine for spare or for sale If it can help.
  17. I have just experienced misfires, I changed the spark plugs but same problem. A new distributor cures the pb, I think it was due to a damaged cap. If it can help.
  18. 1.6 versus 2L which is the most suited to a Caterham for fun road use or a from time to time trackday car. For an extreme car,I think I know the answer Many thanks
  19. I have a SPC one, excellent !

    ESP in a Caterham

from what I know, the ESP cannot work without ABS. From 2014, each new car (from a small or a big manufacturer) will have the ESP. This technology will change our Caterham. A caterham with an ABS and an ESP with all the electronic needed, will be a new experience.
  21. The anti drift system will be obliged in any car sold in Europe from 2014. The ABS ( brake system) is linked to ESP. Do you think the 2 systems fit wit the new Caterham ?
  22. I just ordered, not received yet, a 4 point 2 " Luke harness from demon tweeks for my 1989 Caterham. I hope they will be ok
  23. the std 4 points is not good enough ?

    X-Flow Oil Type

Before the Motul, I used semi synthetic 10w40 Agip sint 2000 as I have others cars that liked this oil. Not bad at all, my others cars always works with it but the Motul was an improvement for the seven.

    X-Flow Oil Type

I use Motul 300v 15w50 synthetic and it is very good if you do some trackdays or you drive quickly from time to time. For the first 800 miles after the rebuild I used a Castrol Mineral 15w40 which is fine. (It is the recommanded oil by Caterham in my driver book) It will allow the beding in process more than the Motul which is a race oil With the Motul, the oil pressure is better at idle at hot
