  1. Thanks for the replies. Simon, I know 😬 just not making enough money since doing carbon 😬 (but it is more fun) and my wife won't be able to handle much more power Should I snip the exposed wire off don't like leaving it like it is. Strange how it has been stripped? Hi Tony, mine (my wife's) is different to what you describe? I think the cap allen headed bolts will be OK. I have some spares that fit, will look as I crane the engine in. 2. Building up Henrietta's k series 7 and need some questions answered please. Starter motor. Seem to be missing the threaded stud from the build kit and was wondering why it cannot be bolts? Seems to be enough space to get the bolts in and out (but engine not quite in car) so am I missing something? The standand CC immobiliser plug has a pink wire that has some bare wire at the end? In the wiring diagram it says aerial???? What am I suppose to do with it??? 4. 😬 😬 😬 😬 Just these bl**dy front wings that keep coming out wrong since making a new mould Think I have just found the reason so fingers crossed. 5. 😬 Thanks for your kind words Julian, makes it all worth while 😬 Floors ready and packed (look great too went with the 6 layers of carbon and 2 of kevlar sandwiched in the middle) RiF Driving one of the first Duratec 7, and building CA07BON for Henrietta 😬 😬 😬.for pictures of 7 and carbon andCA07BON

  7. And documented fully on my links below (CA07BON now updated too!!!).I have just added up the parts Julian has purchased and the weight saving will be at least 8.5kg. Then knock out the bits like the boot floor etc and I would say there is a good 15 kg saving or more. The rigidity of all the panels, floor, internal and external skins is considerably increased plus it will be pretty hard to dent! Very hard to shed 15+kg from an extra light car already RiF Driving one of the first Duratec 7, and building CA07BON for Henrietta 😬 😬 😬.for pictures of 7 and carbon andCA07BON

  9. So much easier with the scuttle top off. I drilled the rivets out of the vertical scuttle panel so I could leave everything on the vertical. Even seeing which wire goes where is simple with the scuttle off. A bit of tape and write on it to indicate off wires helps. Thanks for all your kind offers. David is sending me one Second moulding yesterday and it looks pretty good. Just want to compare now for rigidity etc RiF Driving one of the first Duratec 7, and building CA07BON for Henrietta 😬 😬 😬.for pictures of 7 and carbon andCA07BON

    Carbon rear wing

Want a rear wing in carbon, either side and any condition to buy, borrow or free Don't want a recent CC one or Mog. Must be either CC in twill (older version thing 2005 backwards) or Dog in the Park /K9. Damaged is OK. Aeroscreen

Thanks for the feed back. Will not bent perspex distort the vision and not actually improve the visability???? From my experiences of clear plastic bent the optical charactoristics are terrible and once a few flies and stones have hit it, will you actually gain anything RiF Driving one of the first Duratec 7, and building CA07BON for Henrietta 😬 😬 😬.for pictures of 7 and carbon andCA07BON

    Aeroscreen

I am still a bit confussed Why do you all want a perspex aero when we can do a low carbon one? We can make a carbon version any height and have found the shorter versions work still far better than any others made. The only time anyone has said about wanting more vision are a few track drivers who want to see more of their front wing. I think this thread is now very confusing for the general aero driver as the majority want as much protection as possible and the restriction in view is not a problem for normal road use. We have sold many hundreds if not over a thousand by now and the above thread is really now a different subject to the first question. If I can help by expanding my range to suit those that do want max vision then I am pleased to discuss. Don't think I can help in Perspex though. Aeroscreen

Thanks for all the support We have made aeroscreens from 1" high upwards 😬. For normal road use for customers from 5'6" upwards our standard version is normally fine, for lowered floors or anyone shorter the lowered version is 2cm shorter although I have sold them to drivers over 6' tall in standard seats and they have said it works well. 18. We do a carbon version 😬 All these U sections should be riveted with stainless rivets not ally ones into the chassis rails. Ally rivets are OK into the floor only part that the U rivets to. 19. I always use a 4mm drill and then 4mm rivets. No problems for me. There is around 460 rivets on the internal panels. That is why I brought an air riveter for Henrietta's car, my wrist never recovered from doing my seven 😬 Captin chaos, I will give you a call back when I return to Scotland RiF Driving one of the first Duratec 7, and building CA07BON for Henrietta 😬 😬 😬.for pictures of 7 and carbon andCA07BON Edited by - RiF on 11 Nov 2007 18:04:48
  20. Hi Bryn, We originally could not make compound curves with the new system we developed for many of the parts we were making, but 2 years ago we broke through this problem. We had agreed with Arnie Webb that we would not make certain items, so held back on our development. Then there started to be a shortage of wings and nose cones so we spent considerable time furthering our development and at the beginning of this year started making front wings be it on a very low scale by our new process. Then negotiations with Peter started and we decided that instead of spending time on trying to mould complicated mouldings like a nose cone by our system, that with all the moulds we were purchasing, it would be easier to revert to vacuum bagging our own pre-preg manufactured material. As you may of read it took 30 mouldings to crack the right combinations of formulation but we are now able to make front wings, rear are pretty close so then onto the nose. We have also had to re-tool as many of the moulds would not mould to the desired quality and as with yourself we will not sell poor quality mouldings, hence the delay in marketing. During all of our 4 years of making 7 parts (33 years of composite moulding, I am an industrial chemist) we have been involved in cleanroom plastic cladding but this year we have dropped it for many reasons and now are concentrate on the carbon composite market, 90% is for the seven at the present time. We are still moulding certain compound curved mouldings via our novel process and have orders for mirror casings that are working well by this technic. Perhaps we should have a chat sometime RiF Driving one of the first Duratec 7, and building CA07BON for Henrietta 😬 😬 😬.for pictures of 7 and carbon andCA07BON

  23. "My first thought is that where Rif has gone for the very high gloss surface finish and strength this chap has gone for absolute extreme lightweight for motorsport....and BEJESUS these are LIGHT!" Just wanted to correct this, (sorry Julian): For wings we have gone for lightness and less gloss, our front wings look like the original CC version but better still in quality. Weight is 250gms!!!! Rear wings next month and nose cones in January. We have all of K9 / Dog in the Park moulds. 24. Don't buy a cheap rivet gun. They really don't last and with that number of rivets you will stuggle. An air one is well worth thinking about as an option, they really are so easy. We also sell parts to close to footwell traps and I installed some on my car 4 years ago. I also injected through a drilled hole Waxoil or similar. Really is the answer and should be done at build stage. Mine I used a mastic adhesive on. See the 2 web sites below as I have just done it on my wife's seven as well. 25. Rob Process we are using for wings is different to our other parts The surface on these other parts has proved to be very durable even as stone protectors. For the wings it is a vacuum bagged system, not a long way from the process CC products were made with, just modified slightly. Our wings should have similar properties to the earlier CC wings and K9/DitP wings, gloss is down to the mould. We do not use gel / epoxy coats to give a good finish. On our other ranges it has a resin rich surface finish compared to some finishes but this is a technic we have developed. The extra resin on the surface is really minimal unlike a gel coated moulding. Our rejects are mainly due to fibres showing through this finish, the difference in our process between good and bad is 0.1mm. Control of resin to carbon is vital and took us over a year of development. Can't say too much but hope this helps a bit RiF Driving one of the first Duratec 7, and building CA07BON for Henrietta 😬 😬 😬.for pictures of 7 and carbon andCA07BON
