  1. Thatcham approved stuff must be put in by an approved installer. If it is not then it won't be Thatcham approved. If you car is later stolen the insurance company will not pay out!
  2. To clarify post 1996 De-Dion non race cars have tunnel mounted hand brake (all Superlights post 1996). Racers expect the very recent ones (I believe) have under dash even on De dion. All live axle cars are under dash handbrakes.
  3. Roadsport A spec is similar to a Superlight road car (wide track, six speed, LSD) Roadsport B is a lesser spec. I would get a Superlight if you are looking mainly at road as you will tend to get a less abused cabin a few more creature comforts and you will have a tunnel top mounted hand brake (racers under dash).
  4. Not wishing to cause and argument but I seem to remember people getting flack for daring to question the build quality of these exhausts. Having to put silicone in them doesn't sound like they are made that well?
  5. See the thread in Chit Chat. Widely considered to be extremly uncomfortable.
  6. As far as I understand it: Thatcham Catergory 1 is for combined alarm immobilisers (difficult to fit in a seven) Thatcham Catergory 2 is for electronic immobilisers. Thatcham Catergory 3 is for mechanical immobilisers that disable the gear leaver, pedals or steerign wheel. Thatcham Catergory Q is for other products like Tracker and Pentagon Supaglass.
  7. Pour boiling water on them. They come straight off then!
  8. Unfortunately you could have just written that down Grim Reaper and there is no proof that it has been serviced. You go and look at a car could look at the oil on the dipstick and it is clear as you like. It could be the oil has just been changed but previously not been done in 20,000 miles. The dealer stamp from a reputable company proves the service has been done by someone.
  9. Dave runs an Ford English axle with massive modifications to it it is not even remotely the same as the Marina Axle. Graduate racers (running concrete CR322s) consider the half shafts on the Marina axle as consumable items and they are only running with 100 bhp. I seem to remeber you bought the nice looking Titanium VX from Caterham South Mini Ventura? It is a nice spec car and making it into a monster hybrid would make the value plummet.
  10. The Vauxhall 2.0 litre engine will blow your Marina back axle as it has a lot more torque than the 1.6VX. As you would also need to change your axle in this case and this would get expensive. I believe the car you purchased was pretty new so changing it to a spec which Caterham don't produce will make it plunge in value. Caterham do a 1.8 upgrade for the engine which is not cheap but will add a little value to the car. If I were you I would look at selling and going to another model rather than extensively modifying the car.
  11. Welcome back Chalres! Blatchat was a poorer place without your unique brand of humour.
  12. Have you got two petty struts then Nemesis? Why would you sell one otherwise?
  13. Get a raceco one they seem to be rated by anyone who has had them. They are Titanium and can be specified in various levels of noise depending on your track requirements.
  14. I think you will be looking at a new or secondhand bonnet. Any repair is unlilkely to look any good!
  15. I saw that on the site and the figures were authenticated by a division of the Canadian Mounted Police!
  16. Might be really expensive paint? Or it might require two laquerings or something?
  17. Anti-gravity oil tank cool
  18. I think the name is the giveaway Paul cR500! They were designed for the R500.
  19. I think you may have difficulty getting Caterham to fit a tyre they don't stock and is recommended for that size of wheel. The CR500 tyres is superb and is designed for the car why insist that they replace it with something heavier?
  20. I imagine bashing a Radical could prove horrendously expensive!
  21. I didn't say he wouldn't do it but he will make you sign disclaimers etc. He is just covering his back in case someone moans that it fades! Dayglo colours are great on a seven and Tony TSK is a craftsman and is the only man who should paint a seven.
  22. I know that it is VERY expensive and you must have some UV reflective laquer over the top. I think he will do it but you must sign disclaimers that you realise the paint will fade over time (reducing exposure to sunlight will slow this considerably).
  23. Is you X-FLow Live axle YW? The rear brakes are pretty terrible in the LA application and you may find the fronts are locking but the rears are not doing a great deal!
  24. I think you are probably right on the reason Mike but the Roadsport is a VVC 160 X-POwer with plenum chamber and the R300 engine is a 1.8 with Roller barrels. I imagine their cost price is somewhat different.
