  1. It must be reflection or a very dodgy meter! That car should be nowhere near that loud. If it is on a standard exhaust (4-1 inside the body) I would expect it to be sub 100db.
  2. Caterham sell their own Diff and gearbox oil. It is made for them by Comma and is the definate correct spec. Available at the Caterham South showroom or from the factory parts department.
  3. Nope totally different. The Wheeler/Savoury one is Yamaha based and has a 2 litre capacity. The Radical one is based on Hayabusa head and is 260 bhp. Radical (Powertec) is 95 KG and 370 bhp+ RST is 75 KG and 340 bhp
  4. What are you racing next Jamie? Seems a fair price to me (but I am not going racing).
  5. Solar roof cells? They will generate enough current to run a small de-hum most of the time?
  6. The tyres you have currently are possibly the worst tyres ever fitted to a seven. Add to this they are now many years old (possibly even orginal fitment) and they are WAY passed their best. Switching to AO21Rs will be like driving a new car you will get FAR more lateral grip and traction plus you can deal with standing water better.
  7. Minister do different maps for the R500 that may not pass SVA or MOT but make it run sweetly. You can probably revert to standard come MOT time.
  8. Yes the stopwatch is a strong argument but: If you put me in a very well set-up CSR260 and Barry Horne in a 1.6 Roadsport he would almost certainly beat me unless the track had lots of big straights! Did the Japanese driver own the car or did it belong to CC? If not it is a very strong reason not to push it and bin it in a gravel trap likewise if it is his brand new car!
  9. The Jap driver had presumably had very little time in that car and very little time with IRS. There isn't much set-up data around about the IRS yet? Had he ever driven around Brands? Was he any good? Comparing that car with the people who have had loads of time at Brands with a very well known car is perhaps a little unfair?
  10. I think the offset mount is to clear the bonnet which even with the modified mount is very close to the plenum.
  11. I don't believe it will be an issue on your car I think it only afflicts K-Series cars.
  12. It is an anti-rust paint that is far stronger and more stone chip resistant than Hammerite or Smoothrite.
  13. Isn't hacking a cross member out a bit of a risk? Won't it have stiffness/safety implications?
  14. Not an engineer so almost certainly wrong but wouldn't a visual flaw in the CF mean that there could be a more sinister structural weakness at this point? Obviously totally irrelevant on a Caterham CF wing but relevant on an F1 wishbone or tub?
  15. Why was that? Simon don't be too upset they are brilliant brakes!
  16. Road and Race transmissions do gearbox rebuilds for the R400 challenge etc. and all of Caterhams gearbox work. You will rarely hear a bad word saida against them and a HUGE number of people have used them on here.
  17. Keep the SS it will be a fair bit quicker than the VX. The VXs are 100 bhp rated and I think that may be a little generous!
  18. Better wait for someone official to confirm.
  19. Believe it is fine as the FIA stipulation is more about the height of the bar than the FIA approval.
  20. D6VEC the Emerald isn't actually intrinsically better but you can alter the map more easily. An unlocked MBE unit is probably just as good if not better.
  21. Arnie has one on his car and he reckons it is all down to using the right grade of Carbon. I imagine his car pops and bangs a lot but he says his is still fine after several years use. Maybe his new company will start making carbon cans again?
  22. If you have an ageless plate they will probably take less notice of your car as they will think it is old!
  23. The MG car club (or similar) did some decent scientific research on these chemicals and they found that Dinitrol was the best. It was more difficult to wash off when blasted with salt solution and it also penetrated gaps by capillary action far better than Waxoyl.
  24. To be fair to Caterham on the lights issue they have to take what is available and currenly able to pass SVA. They cannot develop their own light units as they would cost hundreds of thousands (seriously).
