  1. The 1.8 is a stroked 1.6 so you could argue the opposite is true. Don't fit a Zetec to a new build it would be a very odd combination. Zetecs are only usually fitted as a replacement for Crossflows. Would have less residual value than a offical fit engine.
  2. I wasn't talking Syner G I was talking Caterham Motorsport Oil. Syner G is 0W40 I think wheras Motorsport is 5W50.
  3. Of course it is a free choice for everyone. Oilman however does sell oil and only sells certain brands. I am sure some of the advice can be generally applied but he does have a vested interest to recommend particular oils. I would say that Mobil Motorsport 15W50 is not a great choice for a K-Series as it doesn't get very runny at low temps. This is particularly critical at this time of year when oil doesn't get very hot even on longer blats.
  4. Worth bearing in mind that Oilman does have a vested commercial interest and doesn't sell Mobil, Comma etc. Yet another thread suggesting Caterham got Comma to develop some cr*p oil for their cars. The development of this oil along with other improvements has improved the reliability of R500 engines. Weirdy I would use the 5W50 as you know it works! There is a lot of suspiscion on the board that Caterham do everything to spite people . Caterham said to me at the time when they developed them they did it to remove the confusion of what oil should go in what.
  5. Bricol do tell... Without mentioning names of course!
  6. Another Manista user, Comma gave me a free sample at some show and it seems to work well. I found that with Swarfega I had trouble with my hands drying out and cracking, I have not had this with Manista.
  7. Use Dinitrol not Waxoyl. Everyone uses Waxoyl because they have heard of it or their dad used it or something. Dinitrol was found in independent tests (MG club) to be much better: 1. It penetrated further into narrow gaps with capilary action. 2. It didn't wash off as easily (they tested a piece of body work which was blasted with warm salty water for a period of time. 3. It gave better corrosion protection. Another good tip. Used plenty of card and masking tape on the bodywork to avoid scratches!
  8. Antonella Dave is talking about the RST-V8 which is based (losely) around 2 1000cc bike engines. It does rev to 11,000rpm (where is produces 320bhp)!
  9. Slot some sort of foam between the U-clamp and the cage for a better grip and less paint damage.
  10. Syner Z is probably a bit thin for an R500 considering the temperatures they get to. The motorsport oil is however perfect as that is what it is designed for. I wouldn't think the 10W60 does the engine a great deal of good as it is a little thick for a K-Series when cold. I think a 60 rating is excessive even when running in high temperatures.
  11. Road and Race Transmissions could probably do something. Very well regarded by people in Caterham circles.
  12. I believe you have an R500. Don't use this in the R500 it is the wrong spec. I seem to remember something about this particular grade of Castrol not being that good for some reason. Can't remember why or whether it was this oil. Use Comma/Caterham Motorsport oil it was designed for the R500 engine. It is a 5W50 BTW.
  13. No David I don't work for CC! My job is far less interesting than that!
  14. Madball- Arch Motors are the manufacturers of the Seven chassis. I say Seven as they made it in the Lotus days as well. They are based in Huntingdon. They do all of the accident repair, re-powder coating and renpanelling for Caterham. THey can also do all kinds of upgrades to the structure of the Seven chassis. In short they are the only people to let loose on your seven chassis!
  15. Yes but I post under my name rather than a pseudonym. I was just wondering if I had met Ajax but I don't believe I have. He seemed to have a fair bit of knowledge and I was just wondering from what angle he comes from.
