  1. The R500 system has a seperate catalyst which goes in front of the silencer. It is removeable and can be changed for a section of plain pipe when you MOT test has been done.
  2. You would probably be looking at low 4s 0-60 for a Supersport R. One of the critical factors for me if I was to go Supersport R is that you actually get quite a few new engine bits internally when you go to 1800. If you have done quite a few miles then this must be quite a bonus!
  3. Nick I wasn't talking about Syner-G or Z but the Cateram oil which is a seperate product and IS custom developed for Caterham. Read the article which I linked and it does mention there are some better oils than Mobil 1 according to indepedent tests. It also mentions what the various additives can do.
  4. I will get shot down again for this no doubt. Comma developed the Caterham oil for the K-Series taking account of the duty cycle we put them through. This means the oil is designed to cope with the K-Series demands it needs a low number for cold starting (Mobil 1 motorsport is rated at 15W and this is too high and will lead to damage). It also will cope with the high temperatures and revs that track days a long "enthusiastic" road use bring on. It is true that many manufacturers recommend an oil specifically for their engines due to a commerical deal and there is nothing special about it. The Comma/Caterham situation must surely be regarded a little differently as we are assured that the oil was specially formulated just for Caterham. There is no equivalent product in the Comma range so we must assume that this is true. If you are using it for the road mainly then you won't go wrong with some Comma Syner stuff.
  5. I guess this technical article will be rubbished as Mobil 1 doesn't come out as the best (Comma isn't mentiond BTW).
  6. Even if you don't want to sell it back to Caterham less people will want a significantly non-standard car.
  7. Caterham Upgrade: Adds Power Adds value but costs more. John Noble and DVA: Adds Power lowers value and costs less. Go for the Cat upgrade and anyone would be willing to buy the car. With a non-factory upgraded car less people will be willing to buy it however good the tuners reputation is.
  8. Have a look at this link for lots of info on oil from an independent guy. here BOS oils may well meet the grade when they are new but some will not hold their grade for a whole service interval.
  9. You sit in the back and the De-Dion cars are rear heavy so I would reckon further forward would be better. Watch out if you put it underneath that it doesnt get grounded out and lose weight during the race.
  10. The Jezza Clarkson video with the supercars on a runway featured all the cars with pro racing drivers or test drivers. The only exception was the JPE which was owned by Stan Romaczek and he was driving. He had just had his gearbox replaced or rebuilt and didn't want to damage it. That is why he granny started and lost. The Cerbera in the race had a racing spec engine in it with loads of extra ponies under the bonnet that is why it was so quick (typical TVR trick). Stan now owns the worlds most expensive Caterham with a 300 bhp SRE VX XE engine and lots of trick bits. It allegedly cost £70k+
  11. Do BLiNK know or is the weight comparison not that favourable?
  12. If he is racing in a Caterham championship I imagine he will have to fit all the Caterham stuff. It isn't cheap but it is a good system and works very well. It will save your engine and you may get a slight power gain.
  13. With the Comma Caterham oil we are not simply talking about a recommended grade from the Comma range but a bespoke oil just for Caterham. This is is a little different from the standard use this grade from this manufacturer on most cars. Nick I have no idea what the actual differences are between the oils but the SynerG/Z will have some other additives in it which may have various benefits.
  14. Tried a search in the archives there might be something on this?
  15. Nick Halfords Synthetic and Comma Syner Z are not very similar they are simply made by the same company. Same grade but different bits and pieces.
  16. It is a carbon airbox made by Reverie. Quite pricey though.
  17. If you have the standard wheels on the R400 then these are 15's and the 15" CR500 is a little bit harder compound I believe. I think there is a 15" AO32R but I am not totally sure, on things for sure it will be quite a lot heavier than the 15" CR500.
  18. If you swop to an Emerald ECU on a brand new R400 you will lose the warranty on the engine. Edited by - dino ferrana on 6 Feb 2004 12:40:46
  19. Detectors are not illegal. Jammers diffusers whatever could be taken to be obstructing the Police or whatever. The same device can be used as a gate opener or something so some people use this defence. I imagine there will be moves to block this loophole very soon. Also if you don't have electric gates or garage opening you could find yourself in deep trouble.
  20. Don't think he charges VAT not sure how though?
  21. The dogs stuff for a full set (cycle wings, rear wings and nose) is just over £1500
  22. Some oils are better than others and Mobil 1 is a good oil. Basically good oils will hold their grade for longer and offer superior protection through their additives. Some cheapo packaged oil may not hold its grade for long or may even be a bit variable in the grade that is actually in the pack. A lot of people swear by Mobil 1 because of the brand and the motorsport associations. Many of the guys on hear seem to be putting in Mobil 1 motorsport because of it's better high temp. protection. Fact is the cold start protection of the motorsport stuff is not good enough for a K-Series and is likely to lead to damage and premature wear.
  23. I think they log all the regular spots the Scamera vans use. No guarantee but gives you some more protection.
  24. For a VVC DEFINATELY! Those engines are very oil pressure sensitive!
