  1. Do you reckon Caterham could get the ring record back with that in an SV?
  2. If you have to drive it anywhere then tape bin bags over the rear wings. Be careful not to use too stronger tape though as it could remove the paint!
  3. Not a cheap way to get power but that certainly is a LOT of power and so light! I imagine with it being a V6 it will have a lower centre of gravity and be shorter which will benefit distribution too!
  4. Rhubarb a Supersport R from Caterham kit does this very nicely (a la R300)!
  5. Swiss Turbo cars were early 90's so technology has improved a lot. No I have a very nice engine in my car thank you. Bike engines seem to be the ultimate in terms of chuckability and handling. Turbo cars have monster power but lack some of the delicate nature and finesse of a lighter less sledge hammer car. My current car is in the middle driveable, quick, great handling and about to be replaced with something with a bit more power (135 vs 160+). I imagine the car with the Rover V8 is lovely for drag racing but ****e at circuits and on the road.
  6. "My cars better than a Caterham" (repeat and shout it until you really believe it) 😬
  7. I don't think 95% would be representative. I can enjoy good handling on the road all day long where as massive power would be more difficult without doing something seriously illegal and or dangerous. There were a few 300 bhp plus Caterhams built in Switzerland (by the swiss agent) using a turbo X XE block. I have heard that they were difficult to drive as the car kept the boost on after you lifted off just long enough to spin you.
  8. Yours is in the standard road car position. Charles car is a race car and therefore there will be differences. Agree on weight distribution Flip side it is easier to access.
  9. I have heard you would be harder on components than most Dave 😬
  10. Not really. If it is a turbo car then issues like power delivery and throttle response leap to mind. Also why do you need so much torque? Most of the time this will just result in more wheelspin and as you can already get wheelspin in several gears in an R4/500 why bother? That extra weight would bother me as handling is a lot of the reason I purchased a Caterham in the first place.
  11. Everyone talks about the if the belt snaps scenario but has this happened. I have not heard anyone on hear with a K-Series Caterham fitted DS have that issue?
  12. 20-50 minutes of riding the curbs and smashing into each other!
  13. V8's are too heavy this is shown on many circuits where powerful V8 westies etc. get pissed on by less powerful sevens or other LSIS. 330bhp would only have been for racing as the engineers only ever envisaged 300 bhp for the road until the warranty department said no! VX's were taken to 300+bhp by Swindon for the works vauxhall touring car team! I think Dave is saying that the V6 is a very light engine for its configuartion and power output.
  14. Appollo and Anti-Cav. are the same thing Franky the terms seem to be interchangeable. AFAIK no R300's have blown up on circuit. It doesn't come as standard because of cost but also it is probably not essential to the car.
  15. The Race wheels don't have powder coat. The failures have only been in racing which as is always said is many times harder on any component than road or even trackday use.
  16. I would imagine that the Cossie Turbo would be pretty heavy. I think if I were to go turbo I would have to look at Hayabusa Turbo a la Radical.
  17. I believe that someone said it was running at Donnington Kit Car Show. IIRC it was a lot slower than Caterhams R400 demonstrator apparently.
  18. What did happen to the Nissan lump? Dave get help now!
  19. They don't interact they are sepearte systems. For your car Franky the DS replaces the Anti-Cav. as an upgrade that is why the dry sump is cheaper to spec on an upgrade on an R300 than the roadsports (they offset the cost of the AC). Anti-Cav. = takes the air out of the oil and gives you an extra 2 litres of capacity. Half way house between a car with out one and a dry sumped car. Dry Sump= stops you getting air in the oil in the first place (eliminates surge and stops the crank whipping air into the oil.)
  20. Caterhams system is very intergrated and tidy. Very very well proven over a LONG time. It is more expensive but very good and IMHO better (and no I am not going to justify that statement).

Get a 1.4K it is "fire and forget" no carb tweaking. Much better fuel economy for a daily driver too (40+mpg compared to 25 mpg).
  22. I was talking on the upgraded Caterham fronts where it is very rare to get fade. Sorry for any confusion.
