  1. No this falls outside of TADTS. 😬 The rev counter for example was reading about half scale when the car hit the limiter and the shift light were flicking in what could only be described as a pathetic fashion. Everything else seemed to be reading half scale. I am not the Stig
  2. No it's not the alternator or battery. All working fine. I am not the Stig
  3. One of our Cats developed an electrical fault yeterday at Combe. Al the electrical gauges including the tacho started to read much lower than normal and more interestingly, if we switched off then re-started the engine they read nothing at all until the throttle was blipped. Any ideas? I thought it might be an earth problem (eg at the common earth behind the dash) but all seems sound there. Car drives fine and everything else works. I am not the Stig
  4. It was around 18:30 so could have been them but the number plates both said 500 on them and there were only two. (Wight Blat?) I am not the Stig
  5. Two R500s followed me down the off-slip at J6 on the M25. Missed the number plates as trying not to bin the car at the bottom og the ramp. They went north (wonderful noise) I went south in Yaris (sorry). I am not the Stig
  6. Mind you, on the up-side most of the clangers like that Ihave done on the 7 I've only done the once. 😬 C7 CDW
  7. Good man - 5kg saved. C7 CDW
  8. Redline are first class. Don't go anywhere else. C7 CDW
  9. What capacity should I buy to be suitable for wheel changing on the 7 🤔 C7 CDW
  10. You now have the prefect excuse to buy that Minno Shuttle trailer which will double nicely as an extra 7 sized garage. C7 CDW
  11. Find a pal with an angle grinder and a vice and Bob's your uncle. C7 CDW
  12. If this is your first 7, the other nasty noise you may hear is a serious clonk from the rear suspension that sounds like something is dropping off. It's probably the loose drain cover you just drove over rattling. 😬 Took me ages to figure that one out. C7 CDW
  13. I suggest to register here and put your question to the Defender forum. You will probably get a good response albeit not as quick as BlatChat. C7 CDW
  14. At the lights white van man will call down to you - Hey mate! Your gearbox is f****d. 😬 C7 CDW
  15. It's definitely not wind then. Sorry. C7 CDW
  16. Dredging up from my electrical engineering past I recall that sealed lead acid batteries (which I think the Red Top is) are very vulnerable to excessive discharge below 1.6 volts per cell and won't recover. C7 CDW
  17. This noise was rather understated as being a "tick". It was more of a machine gun rattle really. Our other Cat has had a noisy follower for the last 20k miles and it ticks but gets no worse. The machine gun rattle developed over a distance of about 2 miles and definitely said you should really stop driving me now please. 😬 C7 CDW
  18. The car is in at Redline and it turns out a collet has broken up on one of the exhaust valves. Doesn't seem to have done any damage. Hope it's just bad luck but as the engine has done less than 10K .... hmmmm! Changing the lifter at the same time as that may be what caused the problem in the first place. C7 CDW
  19. Yes I guess a bit of TLC all round and an opportunity to get those hard to reach bits of kitty litter trapped in the chassis. Already done the engine mounts - collapsed last year. C7 CDW
  20. I'm planning to take the engine out over the winter to fit a new clutch and get the gearbox overhauled. Grateful for other helpful suggestions of other bits and pieces to do at the same time engine/transmission wise. It's a 1600K SS with around 42k on the clock and as far as I know this will be the first time the engine has been out. it's already got the all the basic bits like high capacity radiator and apollo tank. C7 CDW
  21. With the standard Caterham exhaust they all seem to come in at between 93 and 98dB when we test them at Castle Combe. Winky's 1.6K SS producing 150HP is on the original exhaust that was fitted to the car in 1996 and it made 93dB last time at Combe and the noise tester laughted at him. 😬 C7 CDW
  22. Yup - adjustable platforms. Of course that doesn't solve the primary problem of getting the springs off to fit the platforms. 😬 C7 CDW
  23. I have a loose primary exhaust pipe that rattles in the 4:1 collector like that (slack fit). If you are keen it's fixable with suitable silicone sealer but I haven't bothered now that I know what the rattle is. C7 CDW
  24. Just got a bit of update info and I think we are into recovery. Apparently the ticking started then got really bad over a distance of about 2 miles so I think he's going for the recovery option. Anyway thanks all for the ideas and advice. C7 CDW
