  1. Marius: Who is the manufacturer and from whom did you acquire it? ------- Chris Blatus quo
  2. I had to do mine in situ w/ the cheesy Ford "tool" that keeps everything from moving. A jack handle helped achieve the required FT value. So far so good [knocks on head twice] ------- Chris Blatus quo
  3. I concur. I would surely get lost w/ so much adjustability. I wouldn't even know where to begin. What I'm doing is trackdays, so the goal is to find the happy medium of a neutral handling, reasonably well planted car and then go out and try to make the most w/ what I've got and have some fun. Iow, set it and forget it. I'm pretty close to that now I think w/ the stock CC issued Bilsteins. Of course, upgradeitis being as it is, I'd like to try some new Nitrons one day just the same... ------- Chris Blatus quo
  4. Thanks Peter. I'm interested in pursuing this upgrade one day so I'm wondering... Nitron are showing mega £ shocks (their verbage) w/ remote reservoirs on their web site, offered as a more track oriented solution. Did you get those? Would the extra money be worth it for trackday (as opposed to racing) application? ------- Chris Blatus quo
  5. Peter: What dampers were you using prior to installing the Nitrons? ------- Chris Blatus quo
  6. I know it's limited slip. Don't know who made it but I can say that it came to me w/ the anti-roll bar 'grind-out' on the case already done. To me that indicates that CC provided it to the dealer. So, following that line of reasoning (such as it is) the question is: who's diff does CC source? ------- Chris Blatus quo
  7. RiF: Engines are 2.0L, stock internals. My diff is a 3.62 (to the best of my knowledge - see previous comments about dealer issues over here) w/ an MBE ECU. I believe the mapping was done by SBD as the fellow who sold me the car & engine couldn't map the street in front of his house, and my car runs like a raped ape, particularly at the upper end of the tach. Sorry about the late response. I got stuck while traveling back to Canada yesterday. ------- Chris Blatus quo
  8. RiF: Tom and I got our cars at the same time, in summer 03 or thereabouts. I know my engine (and Tom's I think) were sourced from a nice fellow in Kansas, by way of Ford Dearborn taken off of the production line as QC proofing units from their Mexico factory. Don't know how old my gearbox is (due to the nature of CC USA sales and dealer network, uh, complicating issues stateside at the time) Fwiw: Just back from 2 days on track (www.thunderhill.com - a very nice circuit). No appreciable or unusual noises on overrun or otherwise. Std. T9, light flywheel I think - that's what I was sold and it sure feels like it but I haven't looked yet. ------- Chris Blatus quo
  9. I have a 2.0 w/ stock internals, std. T9 and a 3.62 diff. ECU is an MBE, likely mapped by SBD (I can't say for sure). I can't say that I have noise on overrun but then I haven't seen the car for a while. I'll try to pay attention this weekend at the track. I do suffer from minor driveline clunk but I believe my days in an Elan w/ its rubber doughnuts taught me how to be easy on the driveline so that's a non-factor. How different would an MBE be from the Emerald? Would a different ECU make a difference? Ammo: YHM ------- Chris Blatus quo
  10. Mine's a 2.0 w/ a Raceline wet sump. I've done a dozen trackdays so far. Ditto what Neil said. I've never had any issues except when I underfilled it after my 1st oil change. The dipstick arrangement I have isn't worth a damn. ------- Chris Blatus quo
  11. Yup. Time for a change. ------- Chris Blatus quo
  12. Very tempting; very tempting indeed... this requires some thought. I'm in Canada at the moment (as ever, very polite, very clean, very c-c-c-cold) and for a while, but the car's at home. I'll drop you an email. ------- Chris E Blatibus Unum
  13. 500 bhp/tonne with. Yowee. Congratulations! Me too, I hope. I still think I'm going to stay at 2L and build a high revving screamer. There's just something alluring about a 9000 rpm target. It'd sound awesome no doubt. ------- Chris E Blatibus Unum
  14. What happens in case of an accident in the UK? Does the underwriter keep the entire car after issuing the insured party a check? It'd be nice to be able to pull the engine / gearbox / etc. for re-use after a crash, assuming no major damage that is. It sounds like that's where lots of the money and effort has been put in your car. Fwiw, a U.S. based insurance company (Hagerty) has started underwriting cars in the U.K. Over here they specialize in insuring unique / interesting / collector cars and I reckon that's the market they're looking after there. Their offices are somewhere near Silverstone. You forgot to mention the Ti silencer 😬. You do have one on the car, don't you? ------- Chris E Blatibus Unum
  15. Does the Ford engine battery cutoff switch CC sell on their website work w/ a Duratec installation? They list a Rover and a Vauxhall item as well. ------- Chris E Blatibus Unum
  16. Dogtown was / is the, umm, pet name of Santa Monica Ca. The moniker is used mostly by surfers and skateboarders (otherwise known as terrorists to the local cops). I'm w/in about 40 km. of there on the edge of the San Gabriel National forest in a neighborhood of the S**tty of Los Assholes and close to some fairly traffic-free fine mountain & hill roads. It's OK. I'm a little worried about this upgrade. It's heavier than the Rover gas cap 😬. ------- Chris Vitural distance is only as far as you think it is
  17. Gee, Santy brought me one of those too, just today. We are somewhat behind GMT out here after all. A quick look appeared to reveal that the rivet holes are at about the same diameter as the new mounting holes, or at least close enough to be concealed by the new filler. That same look showed me that I have the dreaded flap as well. I was kind of hoping that an export car may not have it. Rats. Thanks for the web site. I reckon it'll be getting a few more hits in the next couple of weekends. ------- Chris Vitural distance is only as far as you think it is
  18. I used a bespoke 😳 length of 1/2" electricians tape, placed vertically under the spring. But then my car's not exactly a beauty queen. ------- Chris Vitural distance is only as far as you think it is
  19. HA! 😬I've got one of those! 😬 ------- Chris Vitural distance is only as far as you think it is
  20. Especially if you've got a Duratec to install and connect to a car wired for a Zetec!
  21. FIFW, CC Assembly Guide is posted in PDF form on the CC web site here It's kind of big. ------- Chris Vitural distance is only as far as you think it is
  22. I have a Superlight America w/ a 2.0L Duratec. I have a set of each type of tire. I flipped over to ACB10's for some track days and changed the camber ears at the rear accordingly. My front toe and camber is basically in the standard range and according to an email I got from CC they said that's good w/ both tires. On the roads around here (rough) the ACB10's are a very nervous ride and twitchy is the right word. Close attention to where the car is going is always necessary. On track they are great; the turn-in is outstanding, and the car feels planted under acceleration. The CR500s I just put on again recently and civility on the streets has returned. The difference is amazing. I think there may be a little more understeer. I haven't had a chance to do a side-by-side comparison on the track, but soon. I think I'll be using both, depending on track results. Certainly for me the CR500s are way better on the streets, based on my limited trials anyway. ------- Chris Vitural distance is only as far as you think it is
  23. I'm finally wrapping up my pulley swap (properly done w/ the proper tools etc., sorted, thanks for the help) and because the pulley is larger I've needed to fit a longer belt. In the doing I have had to fabricate a new alternator mount. Pictured here is what I'm sure is an automatic tensioner. As I understand their operation it will keep constant pressure outward as the belt lengthens w/ useage. Can anyone tell me how much pre-load to put the tensioner under? (edited to fix the link) ------- Chris Vitural distance is only as far as you think it is Edited by - moosetestbestanden on 20 Nov 2005 04:58:05
  24. Advert for a 300 hp Duratec here
  25. Which allows the 2nd nut underneath (speaking for myself of course) to come up and finish the job. W/ a well earned bottle 😬 ------- Chris Vitural distance is only as far as you think it is
