  1. Sounds like a winner to me! I've been looking for a better quality of glue. I always need it come voting time, so as to keep my thoughts and ideas more in line w/ the masses around me... Seig Ahnold! Seig Ahnold! Seig Ahnold! AKKKKKK! ------- Chris A day you don't go a hundred is a day wasted
  2. I've set my wife to the sewing now. She's attaching the hook n look strip across the top, down each outboard side and vertically in 2 spots nearer to the center. She's dead game on the 7 - really looking forward to blats and (Im hoping) for track days too. Benzene, in one form or another (we have several products available here, for example 'Goo Gone') should be able to get that glue off for you. There's always acetone too. I'm thinking of riveting the alum. side of the velcro to the car. More thinking required on this one lest I blow it... ------- Chris A day you don't go a hundred is a day wasted
  3. As I was laying out the rear carpet in a test fit my wife wandered by, took a brief look and said "Why don't you use velcro instead of glue on the carpet? Has anybody out there tried this? It seems like a good idea, at least on the rear bulkhead if not the transmission tunnel. ------- Chris A day you don't go a hundred is a day wasted
  4. Will someone please confirm that adjustable rear dampers install w/ the perches at the bottom please? I haven't found any build photos showing adjustable shocks and the manual does not make mention of the correct orientation. Thanks! ------- Chris A day you don't go a hundred is a day wasted
  5. And there ain't no replacement for displacement HALLELUJAH Brothers Praise the Lord and pass the Nitro Methane! ------- Chris A day you don't go a hundred is a day wasted

  8. Nice tip. Can anyone see a downside to drilling a slight indentation in the column itself? That ought to help. We get the RaceTech quick release wheel over here. Anyone know if it has the same or similar problems? ------- Chris
  9. Yup. That worked, but without the hyphen fra (Italian for between, sorry) freestyle and motorsport. Thanks! CYaLata Chris
  10. As I'm out in the wilderness, some quick question: Who makes and sells this system? Is 'Freestyle' a company name? Is there a URL for more information? Looks very promising... CYaLata Chris
  11. Almost as much creep as we used to see on the old 'wrinkle wall' slicks that were put on NHRA dragsters years ago. Watching those things deform under the power was really cool! CYaLata Chris
  12. Ronbo, Try contacting these guys: http://www.davebean.com/ They've been Lotus men forever - and I do mean forever. I sourced some Lotus Cortina parts from them eons ago (I've had 2, both White w/ Green Flash, Mark Is for thems what is in the know - whatta ride!) They have X-flow experience and 7 experience for sure. Santa Barbara is a bit of a poke from the Valley (unless you live in Calabasas!). I think they'll be worth talking to. CYaLata Chris
  13. No, it's a new De Dion car w/ an LSD. CYaLata Chris
  14. I'm having a bitch of a time getting the right half shaft into the diff. It goes in part of the way but stops. The rubber mallet beating it's received has been to no avail; w/ the car on jackstands and the boing cv joints nothing's happening. Pointers? Is this a two person job (one to hold, one to beat senselessly - me, not the halfshaft)? Again, tips appreciated. Postscript: How does one know that the two half shafts are fully seated, other than the 'it's leaking diff lube so it's not in there yet' test... CYaLata Chris
  15. I learned about this on the NSX board over here some years ago. Seems several fellas ended up in the weeds during track time. Lots of debate followed about the NSX brakes (in fact not the best in the world) but the bottom line was just as this thread states: Change the fluid regularly, particularly if you use your car on the track. 16. Well, I just woke up. I discovered the braided steel hoses (pronounced ho-says) in little plastic boxes of their own labeled 'uprated brake Rd' and 'St brake Race'. Both have a sort of racy looking 'R' printed on the label. The manual mentions 3; 2 for the fronts and one to connect the chassis mounted tube to the De Dion. What's the 4th for? Or should I keep reading... Thanks! CYaLata Chris Edited by - moosetestbestanden on 18 Aug 2003 02:56:22
  17. Any hints for bending the brake tubes on the DeDion? The photos in the manual are a little small for my lost-my-reading-glasses aging eyes to make out clearly. I picked up a bending tool that has an approx. 1 1/2" dia. center for the inboard bits but a tool for the 3" radius portion (as speced by the manual) seems to be harder to find. Any builder's experience / tips greatly appreciated. Oh, btw, it +42 here today. It feels just like another typically pleasant summer's day in Surrey!
  18. I start The Build tomorrow (Sunday). Questions arise: 1. I use a product here when building my bicycles that is (essentially)a very stiff grease w/ high copper content. It's used to prevent the occurance of 'cold welding' between mated metal surfaces, particularly titanium. Is this what the manual refers to 'copper slip'? 2. Which Loctite - 262 (red, 'permanent') or 242 (blue, removable)? 3. Silicone rubber lubricant OK? Thanks! CYaLata Chris
  19. As we say in the bicycle racing community here in SoCal: If you've got a 2 dollar head, get a 2 dollar helmet. I do not in any way mean this as any kind of personal remark or insult but rather simply mean to say that when it comes to the brain (such as mine is), I'm only too happy to spend the whole hog. If I'm going to be damaging the thing, I prefer to blow out the few functioning cells that remain at the local gorgeous babes cocktail lounge... I feel weight is a factor as well and in my web searching I've found little information about the weights of helmets from the various manufacturers. Only one firm I have found has posted the weight of their product on their website. I understand that different sizes will weigh different amounts and all I'm really out for is trying to find relative differences between the different builders. I asked this question here several weeks back and was (correctly) advised that brand isn't nearly as important as fit. So I'm off to the local racing store, as soon as I can find one. CYaLata Chris
  20. NIck, Mike: Thanks for the gearbox info. Still undecided - cost dictates the 5 speed, my constant reaching-for-6th-syndrome habit has me thinking about the Caterham box. John: I agree - see following. I had some discussions w/ the Blatting Crew at Willow Springs yesterday. The upshot is it'll be a (Mexican!) 2.0L for me, coming in at about 220 hp or so. A nice little blat in a +/- 200hp Zetec confirmed for me that around 200 ponies ought to be enough for now, certainly while I'm coming up the learning curve driving-wise. There'll likely be some internal mods as well - pistons, rods, cams. Those remain unspecified but the fundamental decision is made. Now, about the gearbox... It sure felt nice to scratch that itch yesterday, but this morning finds me itching worse. Imagine. As an aside, my wife was FLYING in another Se7en, and loving it! Boy, did I marry well. CYaLata Chris
  21. Ditto. That's my thought - and skills - exactly Ammo, especially given that I have essentially zero time in a se7en. I cut my teeth years ago in an Elan (S4SE) but I don't really think they're that similar, and that was a long time ago. I was not aware that the engines are made in Mexico. More fuel for this weekend's discussions. Thanks again. I'm minding the other thread r.e. the build process. CYaLata Chris
  22. The money is about the same for either engine over here so that doesn't factor in so much into the decision making process. Oddly(?), Ford does not sell a 2.0L Duratec automobile in the U.S. or Canada at this time. Which means that the lump has to come from Over There. Or, and here's the odd bit, from Mexico. Ford sells the Mondeo down there w/ the 2.0L Duratec motor. I'm going up to Willow Springs (a So. Cal. track) next weekend for some virtual blatting and will talk w/ our dealer at that time about the lump and gearbox n order to ascertain the wheres and whats of the engine components. He was initally talking about the 2.3L engine, available in the Mazda / Ford trucks here, but evidently there are issues regarding the overall height of this engine. (btw, according to him, that engine can fairly easily make a reliable 275hp as well as great heaping gobs of torque - sounds absolutely terrifying). Further, the displacement increase would blow anyone using one out of the 2 liter (oops, I mean litre) class for SCCA stuff, or so I'm told. I personally think that about 220 hp or so will be sufficicent, at least for now... The Raceline web site shows some pretty tasty looking stuff and judging by the comments I've read here they are pretty well made. There's a stateside aftermarket company as well: http://www.duratecperformance.com but they've got nothing for the 2 liter, undoubtedly because it's not sold here (yet). I believe ultimately that the lower weight of the Duratec, as well as the fact that it's Ford's motor-of-choice for the next 5 years or so make this the logical way to go, even if I have to be patient in the near term (akk!). As I've mentioned before Ammo, I really appreciate you're keeping the forum posted on your progress. Thanks again and please, don't stop. As for me, well, I'm starting to get really itchy... CYaLata Chris
  23. Michael, No holes cut, as far as I know. The kit's not due to arrive for several weeks. If things are on the wrong side it'll be time for a chat w/ the dealer as the Duratec was spec'ed at order time. I'm still leaning in that diretion to be sure, even though the Zetec's are pretty well sorted at this point in time. What Ammo's up to is very interesting and I for one appreciate his taking the time to keep the board informed of his progress w/ the project. Kudos. CYaLata Chris
  24. I've read that the 6 speed Caterham box can be mated to the Duratech as well, as opposed to a Ford 5 speed unit. Anyone compared the weights of these as well? Hopefully, and so I've been told, my kit should arrive soon and I haven't yet figured out which lump to use. I'm leaning to the Duratech (Zetec as the only other choice this side o' the water) but would love a 6 speed as well.
