My 2004 Ford Focus is my daily commuter - done 70K+ miles. When the family came in the car the other day they commented on how noisy it was - guess I hadn't noticed due to perhaps a gradual increase in the noise. It's not engine, it is a grumbling or rumbling from the rear. the note changes with speed and is louder on right hand bends than left hand bends. My thoughts were instantly wheel bearing, so had the car up on the jack on the weekend, but no play in either wheel (or the fronts, I checked just in case) and they seem to spin ok with no noticable grinding or noise, and spin well enough. As a just in case I check brake wear and brake disc rust build up and gave them a good clean - but no difference. Do you think I am on the right track with the likely culprit being wheel bearings and if so any other 'test' I can do before I take the plunge and replace them? Thanks
