  1. Hi all, I've thoroughly enjoyed owning what I believe was the best spec Caterham for me to learn a lot. Now it's time to let someone else enjoy the car. It's on Pistonheads here if you are interested. https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/caterham/all-models/caterham-7-1-6-k-series/7134798 All the best, Matt
  2. on the off chance that someone may have a spare Ali k series rad for sale, please get in contact if you do(!) many thanks, Matt

  4. On a continental trip last summer, the doors on my s3 started to rise up out of the hinges above around 79mph, the top ones even when the straps were all done up. This resulted in some panicked octopus moments pulling over and holding everything together. I was surprised, as I thought the heat (30 degrees+) would have made the brass fittings expand rather than contract The issue was solved using some twisted wire around the hinges in a figure of 8 pattern, and are still on there now (albeit an ugly fix). Has anyone else experienced this phenomenon at all, or is it just my car with these characteristics? Matt
  5. Vinyl S3 hood - put on only a couple of times (as blessed with good weather in the Alps this year) and brand new sticks and strap set. Please note I think this is the 2013 academy version of the hood, with a small stitched hole in the right hand side to allow for a roll bar. Fit my 2008 s3 with no adjustment required. I haven't yet mastered how to post pics on here yet so please mail me and I can send some through. Regardless, this can always be covered up and provide a far more cosy cabin in inclement conditions. £250 Collection from Kent / SE London area, or can try and arrange a convenient exchange somewhere. Speedo wire

Right I now know why my speedo was playing up. It happened just after I gave the insurance company my mileage for the year, and I didn't really understand how it could have happened overnight. It had power and lighting, needle rose and reset on startup, and some puzzling minor miles recorded on way back. Was looking on blatchat and I have a programmable speedo. This should be set to around 008786 for a 13 inch tyre. Looking at mine the other night, it was set to 118786 so under reading rather dramatically!! I must have been holding the button for 3 seconds on ignition startup and it all went wrong from there whilst flicking through to trip and mileage. Thanks all for the suggestions and to the pobc for the solution. Matt
  7. Hi this may have helped my query immensely. my speedo stopped working, and I realised it was when I gave my insurance company this years reading. When I did so, it was in the dark and I think I unwittingly altered the code on the unit to be 118786. I'll now alter it back again to 008786 and see if all is happy now. Mines a 2007 roadsport. Thanks! Matt

    Speedo wire

Hi in Italy at the moment and speedo has stopped working overnight, any obvious remedies? All looks like it goes into the speedo ok, just worried about Swiss on the way back as they have a more stringent way of looking at speed compared to Italians or French Matt
  10. Hi please can you send me a pic and model number of poss. Shame I missed out on this, but am after one in the future and would like to know which one it is. thanks, matt
  11. Quick update - it was a water inlet gasket that failed. It was sorted out rapidly by Sevens and Classics. I picked the car up yesterday afternoon in time to drive round the corner and hand the keys to my brothers in law for their first track session - a novice session at brands - glad it was an inexpensive repair! Matt
  12. Thanks all, got it booked in this Sat to be looked at, hopefully it can be repaired or replaced for Brands Hatch on the 3rd - is it a particularly time consuming thing to do if the gasket needs replacing? - considering you have the right tools etc.? Thanks, Matt
  13. Hopefully not the head gasket? Linky ☹️ Matt
  14. wearing a helmet sat in traffic. I applaud you. we were stuck in the caterham in traffic on way to a wedding, but literally had to bail(!) and take the sensible car as several bow waves came over the bonnet.
